    Pattaya or Jomtien Beach?

Whenever travel resumes, I plan to go to Pattaya to see if I mightwant to retire there. I visited Pattaya in 2008 for 30 days andstayed in Jomtien Beach.

I have never drankand not into bar girls (have a gf), but I enjoyed going down WalkingStreet every now and then. I also enjoy going to the beach, andlooking at some youtube vloggers, Pattaya beach is a lot more activethan Jomtien beach.

I plan to rent acondo and was wondering what the pros and cons are for living inPattaya or Jomtien Beach, and I would appreciate anycomments/suggestions.

    Thanks

    Jomtien for me.

But COVID has probably changed all this, so who knows... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The novelty of Walking Street will wear off faster than you can imagine. Most of us appreciate a quieter place to rest our heads, to stay apart from the 1 week millionaires and mass of tourists who flock the beach area. Either side of Pattaya would offer some degree of respite from the maddening masses in Pattaya.

That may be true but I think it's kinda funny that Jomtienites try to differentiate themselves so much from the rest of Pattaya.

If you don't drink and enjoy bargirls, then obviously Jomtien. If you're gay, doubly so.

My vote is also for Jomtien, Walking street will wear out quick, especially if you are not into the Bar scene.
Good Idea to rent. it will give you a chance to explore different areas and settle down in a place that best fits your personality.

And how in the hell would you know anything about the area. Sex tourists know shit for shinola. Plus you have not been for what 12 years?

Does not help much when the thread title is.

    Thread: Pattaya or Jomtien Beach?

Klondyke and Skidmark together on a thread is really something else...

Jomtien without doubt, I've lived here for quite a few years now with absolutely no regrets. If you want or need to go into Pattaya it's a 10 minute 10 Baht ride on a Songthaew or more realistically, 68 Baht in a late model aircon car using the Bolt taxi app from Jomtien to Central mall (I just checked).

Obviously we're in Covid conditions right now but under normal circumstances there's more than enough of everything in Jomtien to live really well including restaurants, bars and pubs, markets, choices of houses and condos to rent or buy, medical care (the German Dentist and Swiss GP I use are next to each other in Jomtien plus there's a recently opened sub-branch of Bangkok Pattaya Hospital close by that could have an Ambulance on your doorstep in minutes if things went wrong), grocery shopping, massage options ranging from legitimate to you really need to check this place out , a decent beach to walk along or spend time sitting in the sun, a large enough Expat community to easily make new friends with similar interests, less traffic and people than over the hill in Pattaya by far, and so on.

Pattaya is pretty full-on in normal times, a party that never ends which is exactly why I moved there 20 something years ago. Once the idea of doing 3 day substance assisted drink/fuck fests wears off, there's no real need to be based in the middle of it.

I've been all over Thailand extensively and could live anywhere here I want to but have never seen anywhere that suits my current lifestyle better than Jomtien, not even close.

Not for everyone I guess, but life on the darkside suited me.
