Next month (August) I'm going to a gathering at the Lion Pub. Never been to Pattaya before, and it will be a very short, one night visit. Looking for decent accommodation within reasonable distance of the Lion. Any suggestions?

What day? I'll be in Pattaya on the 15th and 16th.
I heard from a reliable source that anything upstairs is "good." Just keep the widows locked and please stay off the ledge.....
You know I'm just kidding. Have a nice vacation.
It makes me wonder.... If I try to talk someone off the ledge (we could make a list) no not hopefuls by any means but just that one that makes a difference could make a world of .......
Liberty mansion is basic but pretty close.
Nowadays with Agoda, Booking.com, etc, it's so easy with all info needed.
BTW, some hotels (in Pattaya either) do not like the check-in (without booking) directly at their counter, asking to sit down and book via the a.m.
Its all boutique hotels in that area.
Royal Cliff Beach hotel is a 10 min mocy journey away and is what I'd recommend with great big rooms, scenic views, lovely pools and right near Cozy beach although I'd stay by the pool. About 3 to 3.5k a night.
What time are you meeting your friends? If early and you're on your own you are probably better off getting a cheaper hotel within staggering distance to where you are drinking especially as most of the big hotels wont let you check in until 2pm
If you go on booking.com and type in The Lion Pub Pattaya, then press 'sort' then 'distance' you can see all the cheap guesthouses in that area such as Ben and Leks 300 baht a night gay friendly guesthouse.
You should meet some quality tourists there
There are a few villas on there though worth a look if you can get some mates to share.
Failing that I'd get a taxi away from the area
I usually go for Junior Suite type deals, between the 4-5,000 baht/night mark, though as I'm only there for one night, a suite isn't essential. Doesn't seem to be much in the vicinity of the Lion. The gathering is apparently kicking off circa 2 p.m.
Guess I'm going to have to go a bit further afield, though taxis are not a problem. M'Sahib has come up with the Siam Bayshore, which looks OK on their website. Thoughts?
Nice and Jack likes it there but has a stinkin black river of sewage running through it just behind the swimming pool.
I've stayed there umpteen times in the last years and find it great value, seaview room in the main building, great breaky, location is good and not too noisey.
Got a pool outfront overlooking the beach, so you don't catch a wiff of the smelly klong when you cross the bridge to the other pool.
Got some pics on a few threads I put up in the Thai travelers section.
I stayed at the cheaper tropical rooms at the back. The pool is much nicer than the beach one. Tbh the smell wasn't too bad until you crosses the bridge over the flowing river of black sewage. Ive got some pics of it somewhere too
This is the bridge from the main swimming pool to the lobby if you walk up and look left you will see the swimming pool...
And that water colour wasn't shopped
They were putting pipes in and covering it up last time I pooped in , don't know if it was ever finished.
Jan 2018 they started filling it in and built a new enclosed bridge.
Get over there an have a look Dill for an update.
I saw them working on something when I was there. I dunno how they are gonna stop it coming through by filling it in but a tunnel sounds a good idea
Just over a week ago
A newer review. A group bookingseemed to enjoy it. Maybe its ok now
Fair enough. It has to be better than it was years back.
Off topic, has anyone stayed at Sea Sand Sun resort down near Cartoon Network?
^ think I had an Eatigo there
Ahh no it was the U hotel nearby.
Looks nice that, not too far from the quality beach restaurant trio of Bacco Beach italian, The Glasshouse thai restaurant and the noisy Cafe del Mar on the same stretch of well maintained beach, great for sunsets.
In the 4000-5000 range there'll be no end of choices. With only a 1 night stay it's pointless really to worry about location, otherwise I'd recommend hotels on top of malls like the Hilton or T21 which would keep your Missus happy. Doesn't matter where you are from Naklua to Jomtien, a Grab Taxi will get you to/from the Lion Pub in about 20 mins or less (I can usually get there from Jomtien in 10 minutes).
^ the pristine waters of Pattaya Bay
I think go with HW idea, no sense spending money on somewhere you won't even remember falling asleep in
