Ekamai Bus Terminal (Ekamai BTS) -> Pattaya BHT 120 (ish ... might have gone up these past few years ... it's been a while)

@ Pattaya ... Songthaew to Beach Road ... BHT 20 (ish ... might have gone up these past few years ... it's been a while)

    About 2 1/2 hours

Buses run usually every hour, seats are numbered.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

^ Right hand Lassie ... are those Lady Boy legs?

The middle Lassie is a backbacker?

Left hand Lassie looks par for course.

^^ How much is that trip Dill? Got a friend who's interested... I understand it starts with VIP treatment from landing gate, through immigratio/customs and straight to your transport?

If ever we see 65 Baht to the pound again I'm gonna go mental! Oh, and if I wasn't married as well.

I don't want to stray off topic, but... hypothetically... not sure I'd be top of my game straight after a couple of long haul flights. Also, does that van have a good toilet? I know the first thing I want to do after getting off a long flight and wouldn't really want an audience for that. Maybe I've just led a sheltered life.

For a cheap option, there are buses in the basement of Swampy airport to Pattaya. Seats are numbered. Around 200 baht or so - used it last year.

The easiest and quickest way is to pay for a AOT limo while waiting for your bags to come off carousel, offices are at the end on the way out, its not the cheapest option, but quick and easy, no waiting as they will take you straight to the car waiting directly outside.

If you go to departures on the top floor you can jump straight into a cab that someones getting out of and the taxi driver will be that chuffed he won't drive you all around the wrekin for an extra 20 baht

the quickest way out of the bloody airport is the skytrain link to downtown, 30 baht or so, and then a taxi to your destination.

fuck the airport taxis and their queues, ridiculous procedures, grasping drivers and cars that can barely take a couple of suitcases and passengers.

having someone in a car waiting - you call them as you are collecting your baggage and then they drive to meet you at stop 6 or 7 across the concourse - 6 is probably best as 7 blocks up a bit with vans - if you have schooled them correctly they make sure they park 2 or 3 cars wide so as not to get blocked in by aforesaid vans

then you drive just around the bend and park in the shade of an overhead pillar and change into shorts and suitable tropical footwear and grab a cold beer from the icebox - then you are away

it is very quick and simple with requisite training

That is indeed the handiest way to do it. No fucking around, just nod at the driver who's waiting in the meeting area with a sign bearing your name, follow them and your luggage trolley to the carpark, get in the back of the car, drink supplied water, sleep if need be, be in Pattaya about 90 mins later. I've been using Angie Taxi lately with no complaints, 1200 Baht from Swampy to Jomtien in a Camry. You can get it cheaper if you go looking, but we're talking peanuts anyway.

^ Perfect. I've used the same driver for years now - first met him when he drove the limousines at Don Mueang.

If I'm going straight home, he waits for me on Level 3, then we go across to his car in the car park. Transfer cold beers out of the ice box, my cheese, bacon, sausages etc go in the icebox, and then off to Korat. He's more expensive than meter taxis but drives safely and has the advantage of being someone I trust with my bags if I need to leave the car for a while. It's on expenses anyway. He also picks me up and I've never missed a flight using him.

As an aside, I've often found in Thailand that if you are generous it usually pays dividends. Many years ago my wife and I had to stay in Bangkok for a couple of months due to illness in the family. My driver, appreciative of the generosity, sorted us out a suite at a nice hotel for the price of a small room. He had a friend working there, and instead of checking in properly we just met the concierge who sorted it all out. Saved a small fortune.

^I assumed he meant from Bangkok airport - as in Swampy at which the majority of incoming pax land. But if he's talking Bangkok city or DM it makes no difference, a private car door-2-door for something like 1500 Baht is still the way to go.

Just thinking back to when DM was where we all landed and the fare in a Thai Air limo (Volvo S70 or Merc 190, both were shitboxes) to Pattaya was either 1500 or 2000 Baht I think. So some 20 years later, the same trip in a better car (Camry or Accord) costs the same or less. That's one thing that hasn't become more expensive here...

1500- 2000 baht 20 years ago must be worth about 10-15,000 baht now.
You sure you werent getting rinsed?
Although I did hear stories of how that journey sometimes could take seven hours back then.
