There's been rumours for years and years that the clubs on the beach side of Wanking Street are going to be demolished but it looks like it's now on the cards.

Illegal Buildings In Walking Street!
Pattaya officials have ordered 12 Walking Street business operators illegally constructed buildings to be demolished!
The business owners have been issued a 45 day notice issued on 17th April 2015 to dismantle and remove illegal extensions to their buildings.
Originally Thailand’s parliament had given orders for 101 buildings in Walking Street South Pattaya to be demolished as they are illegally constructed on beach land, however, this is a world famous tourist attraction.
Removing one side of the street would devastate Pattaya’s tourist trade and business.
The Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, Mr. Ronnakit Aeksing together with Mr. Itthowut Thitiworn, the director of the engineering division of Pattaya and the 12 operators and lawyers have asked parliament for clarification regarding dismantling illegal extensions to their properties as they have the correct deeds.
Upon inspection Pattaya officials found that the 12 operators had broken strict rules regarding extending buildings. Once the dismantling order is given, the operators will have 30 days to appeal. As this is such a serious matter and could lead to further action Pattaya officials have submitted their findings to the Government so that Parliament can decide.
Officials admitted that it was their responsibility to check the operators premises, which had not been done like this for 15 years. Hopefully it will result in the businesses being dealt with fairly with due consideration for the Walking Street community and tourists taken into account.
Illegal Buildings In Walking Street…Will anything change?
They have knocked down some extensions that were encroaching on Public Land recently;including the whole access way to a hotel and they've now started on the front of the hotel as well but I've not seen any action on the beach side. On the landward side there are a few bars which have undergone/are undergoing quite extensive renovations.

I took a stroll along Walking St last night for the first time in ages and the bars were dead. God only knows how they are managing to meet the high rents every month. The place has certainly had its day. On the other hand LK Metro was very busy with a lot of customers in nearly all the bars. Billabong was heaving as usual and all the surrounding bars were turning over enough trade I'm sure to keep the owners happy.
Pattaya Addicts is going to have some For Sale listings rather sharpish.

Pictures show all the frontage area to be removed.
^ Is that Italian restaurant still there where you can sit and look out over the water?
OK not for long maybe but that is/was one of the better things on WS.
Looks like the Beer Garden is for the chop?
I don't think Walking Street is for you NealOriginally Posted by VocalNeal

I haven't been there for around 5 years now, and when we did visit it was generally to accompany a friend or other to the Blues Factory.
The entire street should be demolished and rebuilt as a promenade with cafes, decent bars and harbourside restaurants.
The fat-bellied, slap headed tattooed oikish scum, well, at least the British orientated whore mongering dross that is, all seem to be concentrating around Soi Buakhao and towards LK which is perhaps a good thing since it will inevitably re-polarise the whores and pimps away from the main drags.
The only thing remaining is to ban all whores and their beer bar pimping brothels from all streets west of Second Road leading to Beach Road.
Only then will Pattaya be halfway rid of the scourge of prostitution and the mafiosi that raveningly gnaws away at the City's underbelly spawning its vile corruption and moral turpitude.
So, what then? Bread & circuses for the chavs?
Jomtien could be the place to buy now.
Nana place in suki 4 has rumours its getting knocked down.
The boiler room boys are building a new complex up the road so I've been told.?
Memories of over 15yrs ago, I 'wined and dined' a couple of bargirls along the more scenic places overlooking the beach there. Lobster Pot.
The second time her mamasan turned up unnanounced, and handed her a phone. On the other end was Gary from Manchester who assumed he'd bought her out the bar a month earlier. I even offered to talk to him to calm him down.
Romantic memories eh.
so the chinese want to buy a bunch of waterfront property...
Wouldn't be a shock at all. They love wanking off the Chinks. Would be ironic though

what made me think of china was that:
1. local big men have gotten quite fat off the excess drippings from those bars for years
2. the only way that profiteering would be cleared to move and redevelop would be that a higher, more official body would be getting the grease, instead of local big men.
3. if its more organized from up top, and a big chunk of prime land is being reorganized, it would seem there is one or a small number of investors...and who else has the money now, but china...and of course money + the interest in thailand.
they give some drippings to local officials to sell
land is sold and repurposed
new stuff goes up
droves of chinese tour groups pour in
commissions are made, hand over fist...billing the sea-side (sea sick) town as a pricey destination resort. lots of fruit and flowers for middle class chinese men to dine on, and wala- a resurgence of money and rebirth.
There's a sign up just as you walk into walking street 20B for the toilet.
Went there the other night and ended up buying a toe nail clipper set for 69B from a Chinese import shop all the bars look over priced and shit.
When I get shit faced I prefer around metro to soi 7 by far cheeper and if your a monger the skanks would be cheaper I'd recon.
Even when I was green as grass youngster in Pattaya, Walking St was too intimidating anyway. I'd prefer lurking along the smaller sois off 2nd Road.
So I was in Patt's almost 12 months ago and again loved it, still see that it is on the side from years gone by but still good. The local (Aust) media are saying that the Thai Gov are looking to shut the fun houses down in favour of changing it into a 'family destination'. I am looking to head back soon. Has much really changed ?Should I consider a different location for my entertainment?
^ Hua Hin is the place now
The only thing that's changed is there's no ST's upstairs or in the bars at some establishments that're well known for just that. I would expect this to be reversed withing a few weeks, just like the last half a dozen times the foreign press have called Pattaya the biggest whorehouse in the world - which it arguably is - and the Thai's go into overload to save some sort of face by getting the local media to follow police around while they storm a few bars looking for prostitution. Which doesn't exist at all according to several high ranking powers that be, who may or may not have a financial interest in making sure the bars stay open .
For every 1 prude in the West that clucks their tongues when reading of the goings on in Pattaya (and Bangkok for that matter) there's probably 5 punters who start scanning the web for cheap flights to get here before the adult nightlife is all shut down. They've got no need to hurry, it's going nowhere.
