The "person" who told me no flood insurance did finally reply. It was a weak reply, he indicated you had to ask for it I guess as a rider of some sort. So perhaps fondles and the others were correct, it is available if you ask for and pay for it. I asked another lady today about coverage in rental property such as a massage shop on Soi Bouikow. She said she doubted the beds would be covered but if so, "they don't pay" claims. In addition, you can get flood insurance on your vehicle according to her.

Thai flood insurance reads: Don't build [or buy] a house at ground level.

    Problem solved.

The generations of the past had the idea down pat - yet no one does this any more. Building homes at ground level has become the norm today...why?
Should be taken seriously especially amid known flood plains, near rivers/klongs, or most anywhere actually.

    Self-sufficient and self-reliant.
    Insurance?

Someone showed me some photos yesterday of somewhere in Hua Hin. You could only see the top 2 inches of the cars parked there.

except this is probably a big part of the problem - all these housing estates and industrial properties will be stopping the natural flow of floodwaters causing them to build up and cause extra damage

the problem lies with the land management officials not specifically requiring large floodwater drains to be constructed as part of development approval
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

I wonder what happened to that huge highrise down by the pier, the one Ramon somehow off loaded to the famous "Tulip" group. They were once again advertising "E.I.A." approved despite everyone in town knowing construction had be halted almost a year ago. A flood of this type would have been a good challenge to said property. I wonder why you guys continue to think Tulip is exempt from such things. Ramon knew something when they sold it. What we don't know, here on the balcony, is how Tulip got control of the deposits?

I heard that the top 7 floors have got to be taken down. I wonder if that will do any structural damage?

If you've bought on the floor 7th from the top does that now mean you'll have a penthouse

Difficult to get the straight scoop on this. I guess you meant 8th from the top, as the top seven would be tossed? so anyone who bought "7th from the top" would only have a floor?

I'm so sick of hearing what honorable businessmen "Tulip" guys are. Where are the deposits and why haven't they been returned??
