I know a guy who's house split in two due to rain washing the earth away, this sounds like it's got the making of a disaster

I bet people have died due to this disaster.

And the councils do fuck all about it even after being warned.

Blocked drains are the main cause.

Cripes! Hoping the rain stops soon for our Pattaya contingent.

Mrs says it's chucking it down in Korat too.

Odd how all that money marked for infrastructure gets diverted into a back pocket, if only the rains could be diverted in the same direction

I think they put cash into repairing the drainage but the people doing the job are totally shite at it. They are working on them year round in my neck of the woods - never to any avail.

Apparently this is the worst flooding Pattaya has had in 30years.
Water everywhere but not the kind you want to swim in.

^The forecast is for more of the same today, possibly worse than yesterday depending on which weather site you look at. We've had a very sparse wet-season so far and Pattaya needed good rain badly, but not all in a 48hr period!.

As far as work on flood-prevention drainage goes, this has been a hot topic every time low laying areas around town turn into lakes/rapids during particularly heavy downpours and the "powers that be" always say they'll have it fixed before the next wet season. Then it's a combination of allocated budget skimming, dodgy contractors getting the work (who have ties to those who award the contracts in the first place), and total incompetence that stop the work ever being carried out properly.

I used to think that. Then it was pointed out to me that if they do a piss poor job, they will be re-hired (contract corruption) to do the same job a year later, and a year later - ad infinitum.

Doing a cracking job first time and they only get one dip in the trough.

Not defending the shit drains but am not sure what would need to be installed to cope with that much rain.

The Bypass had 3 foot of water over it down at the Nongate Yai crossover. never in the past 8 years have i seen it flooded like that..... and don't particularly want to see it again.... well not when Iam trying to drive home from work anyways./

Singapore has pretty much the same problems - but they have f*ck off big storm drains to cope. Which of course are kept clean and well maintained.

Went for a walk early today and there is carnage everywhere.

We lost two walls on the estate which allowed 3 times the water inflow into our klong and that is why it rose almost 2 metres.

Eastiny resort is fvcked with an entire wall coming down with houses and buildings so undermined you can see from one side to the other.

    Not raining now but thunder.

Yes mate, the drains running underneath it are too small and get blocked with rubbish because some idiot at the council decided to put grates on them. And never clear the fuckers............You can't put brains in monuments.

There is loads of rats swimming along Beach Road and I don't mean the two legged kind. Christ knows what diseases are in that flood water.
