Pattaya Cats and Dogs Fundraisng Evening

We are organising a fundraising and awareness evening for Pattaya's Soi Cats and Dogs on Thursday the 7th March starting at 6.00 Pm.

Entry is free and It will be held at the "Pattaya Holiday Lodge" on 3rd road just around the corner from the CAT offices in South Pattaya Road and directly opposite Soi 35.

There will be some FREE wine and "Nibbles" for the "Early Birds" care of the Hotel owner Alex and hopefully some light entertainment.

Funds collected will be shared between us at "Cats 4 You in Pattaya" and Derek Doyle's "Mabprachan Animal Shelter"

All are welcome.

Will cats and dogs be welcome? I really don't think people need making aware of the problem. The only answer is sterilise every mutt you can get your hands on, that's unless you want to spend on vet fees after that. Putting the lot down would probably save a lot of bother for everyone, including the strays. .

These 2 organisations mentioned actually take cats and dogs off of pattaya's streets, neuter and vaccinate them and then try to find suitable homes for them.
They do this using their own funds and need assistance from the Pattaya community to help them continue their invaluable work.

Whilst I love dogs the problem in Pattaya is far worse then one could ever believe and something that cannot be fixed by a handful of well meaning people.

The problem is with the Thai attitude about letting dogs run wild infesting every street and soi of Pattaya with litters of disease riddled dogs.

These almost wild animals are not only a danger carrying quite serious diseases but they cause accidents which often cause death to humans.

The local government has to come to terms with the real problem and round up these pitiful creatures and put them out of their missery.

Fines also should be put in place to those people who chose to keep dogs that don't register them and keep them locked up on their properties.

Whilst no doubt your heart is in the right place I believe more discussion should be about common sense and reality at this meeting.

There is a pack of semi wild dogs that live on a nearby main through street and attack mopeds, pedestrians and cyclists after midnight. They are led by a pitbull cross whose jaws I could hear snapping at my heel as it chased my speeding moped one night.
Maybe you can come and take them away please? PM for details.

I see dogs aggressively 'mugging' Thai people walking home from the market. The other night I stopped to avoid running over a tiny puppy on a dark street. The mother came running out and tried to bite me for my trouble. Dogs are crossing over from nuisance to menace status at the moment. Nothing is being done. I don't know how it is with cats.

You are going to have your hands full with the dogs.

I was here for about 7 years before I realised that the best thing you can do for a Soi dog is put it down.
I used to do the feed n medicate thing, no more.

Anyway, on the "a life is a life" basis, I am consistently disappointed by the same old whingers looking for a quick fix to the problem of stray dogs by killing them all. Just think, if 10yrs ago the same whingers got together and neutered all the dogs on the street, with the life span of about 4-5yrs for a street dogs, the problem would be half sorted by now. You'll never get rid of them all, but they breed so quickly that by stopping this process the numbers will drop quickly. Get a farang vet to euthenise any injured and aggressive soi dogs (thai won't do it) and there would be a radical change in numbers.

Personally I think that there should be no dogs for sale at all in Asia - no breeders, no shops, nothing. Only a small handful of expats and locals in the whole continent are capable of being responsible owners; a lot of expats just as bad as the locals, buy a puppy for a year, move, and throw the dog into temple or dogs home.
