    Glory Hut AIDS Home Pattaya

Was told about this place by a Thai friend. It's a collection of cheap hut type houses at the end of Soi Ngerm Pab Wan. They have about 14 people there, mostly those who aren't doing to well with ARV treatment. I've ripped a few pics from their website.

One of the residents is a mother with a three month old kid. Noone knows if the kid will make it for long or not, yet in the UK he'd be looking forward to an almost normal life. They travel to hospital in a motocy with dog cage style sidecar. No Fortuners parked outside this particular charity (unlike so many in Thailand).

The get basic medical care in Banglamung, but could use some more help.

They've started a small vegetable garden - they'd welcome donations of some seeds, perhaps some compost.

We dropped in some groceries, which were gratefully received. Feel free to drop by with extra groceries, Thai magazines etc from time to time. These folks will appreciate it.

Difference was they got an annual fund of £500,000 from the Lottery fund.

It's a bit of a sod to find, there's a government clinic/small hospital on the corner to the entrance to the mooban.

From Sukhumvit take soi Ngerm Plab Wan to end (at temple). Turn left about 50-100m. Turn right at the 7/11 (on right hand corner). Keep straight about 2kms. Pass Paradise 3 (on left hand side). Carry on. A click or two you'll see a government clinic Anamaytanman on the right - turn immediately right into really small soi for 20 metres, it's on your left.

Looks like normal house except you will see the AIDS Day banner on it.

We took fruit, veg, dried fruits, soft drinks, juices, 3kilo pork, a carton of ciggies.....They didn't really appreciate the bottle of 100 Pipers (they can't drink with the meds- poor buggers) - maybe they'll share it with you if you drop in!

What they really could use is a washing machine, some new clothes occasionally, baby stuff for the baby - jeez that baby is skinny and a bit of extra cash!

They have trouble getting to and from Banglamung Hospital for appointments so I guess a volunteeer driver with car would be somewhere near the top of the list too.

If you're having a shitty day, I strongly suggest you drop by with something that will be of use or offer to lend a hand. You'll come away with an astonishing sense of perspective.

I thought Thailand was sitting on loads of cash and the UK was swimming in toxic debt.

100% correct, but in the hands of a tiny minority. You can even go to jail for 20 years for pointing it out too eloquently.

For my part, living a few kms away from people left in that position justifies doing something, even in a small way. It's one of the things that separates many foreigners here from the simians that run the country.

After reading the article....many thanks for it .....we decided to pay them a visit. The directions were spot on, and with WiFi in the car off we went.
We delivered some fresh food inc meat and vegs, dried goods and cash for diapers. Very true about the baby. Lovely people there and we were made most welcome.

Shame they have such high rents from the Landlord, we were told the three houses are a total of 17K a month!!. Yes the washing machine is poor, will not take blankets etc so if anyone has or knows of a large machine going...they would be most happy to receive it.

Pleasent couple of hours drive etc, will be going back later next week...maybe compost etc this time. Again many thanks for highlighting these needy people.

It does seem inequitable that whilst some can nip off to Germany in their private jets for world class treatment, this little kid gets put into a homemade motorcycle side car to see the doctor at an overcrowded and poorly funded hospital in Banglamung.

If she does survive to live to adulthood, hopefully she will work that out for herself. Both outcomes are unlikely.

The wife and I went and paid them a visit today and I now appreciate how good my life is. Everybody there made the us very welcome and we will be dropping in from time to time with more stuff.

After we eventually found the place we went down to Makro for some stuff for them and I now have much easier directions.

On Sukhumvit, just opposite Underwater World, take Soi 89 and follow it for about 6 k's until you come up to the lake on your right.
WARNING there are 2 bastid great speed bumps at about the 6k mark which have luckily been camoflaged so as not to give you a chance in hell of seeing the fuckers!
When you get to the lake take the left turning. Follow this for about 1k until you get to the goverment clinic on the left that Lostandfound mentioned. Turn into Soi 16 that runs up the side of the clinic and they on the left about 50m up.

Lostandfounds directions were spot on but I had to keep checking TD on my phone to find it from the other direction.

PS, there is a great shop opposite Soi 16 that sells sacks of rice at a good price.
I would post pictures but life's too short.

Great post Lost & Found, the Foundation must need all the help they can get ie financially, food and provisions, clothes etc etc. The Foundation will now hopefully benefit from teakdoor Members and friends who can donate various items. I certainly will visit the Foundation and take baby clothes and nappies etc for the little boy. Once again well done for highlighting this very needy worthwhile cause, which does not have the funding or help like some of the more well known organisations in and around Pattaya.

Hi Kurgen, thanks for the info
I read the post and it refers to the baby as "he'd":
"that Noone knows if the kid will make it for long or not, yet in the UK he'd be looking forward to an almost normal life".
That is why I wrongly assumed that it was a boy.
Does anyone have any info on who started this Project and is there a board of governors etc?

Just fully read your post and would just like to mention that everything we gave was logged and we were asked to sign a (comments?) book and then they took our photo.

EDIT, PS: mind you I am an adonis looking stud (when I get home late and look in the mirror)

Thankyou, gentlemen, for taking a look at this place.

Sorry about the piss poor directions, Kurgen. You're spot on it's at the top of Soi 89 and 87 then left for a bit at the lake.

If any wants to organize a day out there where a few of us sort the veg garden I'd certainly be happy to pitch in. Let me know.

Yes, it's a girl I learned on the second visit. Not sure what can be done for her, they have infant formula, so I guess just diapers and general baby stuff.

A day's gardening with lots of beer seems like a good idea though.

Two attributes that most TD members would struggle to identify with. Mine's a Chang. With ice.
