A day in the life in the North

So originally Mendy and I were off on a thread but being he lives in Isaan and I am in Lampang lifes and weather are very different. With all the variances and locations I thought I would make this thread in the north. Any of you folks up here like HB, Cyrille, MK and others please add away.

With winter here, the weather is beautiful right now. 18c in am, 26c afternoon.

After a quick run of the place with the dogs, I fired up the RVF and took a 30 minute ride around the area.

Every morning of recent I make a walk around the place as it is caterpillar time and one thing is these things can destroy a plant or shrub in one night. So I check out the wife's special plants. I find these bastards and toss them out for the birds to eat

Well fall is sort of here. This tree is dropping all its leaves. Soon it will be green and full of Praying Mantis's

Today was hopefully the last mow job for the winter. Did a good clean up with the weedwhacker first, mow second.

Wife decided it was a good time to plant the jack fruit tree she had raised in a small pot. Of course one of our tortoise decided the activity was worth looking into

Annie seemed quite comfy on the freshly cut grass

So, you want to distance yerself from the Isaanites, Stumpy?

Korat is the gateway to Isaan and we people are quite normal but I agree that if you go further north and east, deeper into Isaan and maybe towards Buriram, then people can get a bit strange. Mentioning no names of course...

We do have similarities however... Annie / Anna, how freaky is that?

I do have a question... how cold do you get during the winter? Do your tortoises hibernate as pet tortioses do in the UK or do they stay awake during the cold season?

Good question Mendy. Typically our tortoises become a bit lethargic. This is the time of year that the female starts digging her holes to lay eggs. We have 2 females and 3 big males. Now we are watching the females as they begin digging. My wife and I grab the eggs and mark with a sharpie and put in the incubator. They Typically have 3 lays of 15 or so eggs.

    Landmarks and tourist attractions[edit]

    Wat Phradhart Lampangluang

Elephant train in Thai Elephant Conservation Center,Hang chat district Lampang, Thailand

Tourists typically stop by for lunch and visit the more famous attractions such as Wat Phra That Lampang Luang and the Thai Elephant Conservation Center and then proceed to points further north such as Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. Less well-known tourist attractions in Lampang are thus mostly visited by locals. Among these are the Wang Kaeo Waterfall and the Chae Son National Park, a compact park which combines a natural hot spring with large waterfalls.
Many temples in downtown Lampang were built in the Burmese -style, originally endowed by the logging tycoons of the late-19th century. Wat Si Bun Rueang, Wat Si Chum and Wat Pa Fang are among the extant examples. Nine of the 31 remaining Burmese-style temples in Thailand are in Lampang.[5] Traditional Lanna architecture can be found at Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, on the site of ancient Lampang city. It is famous for its murals from the 19th century. The city seal features a white rooster in the temple's gate.
Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao, on the west bank of the Wang River, is said to have housed the Emerald Buddha between 1436 and 1468. Wat Phra That Chedi Sao (The Temple of Twenty Chedis) is famous for its array of twenty pagodas. Other temples of some renown include Wat Phra That Chom Pingand Wat Lai Hin both in the Ko Kha District.
Mae Mo mine is a vast open pitlignite mine in the Mae Mo basin. The mine and the adjoining power generation facilities are operated by EGAT. The power plant is a major source of electric power for Thailand.
Lampang is known for its horse-drawn carriages, which were introduced in 1916 and remain popular with tourists.[6]

Well there are ways to get to Chiang Mai without passing through Lampang but that is pretty good road trip BB.

Again anytime you are back this way, let me know. I do not do dual pricing at the gate.

However I only offer Leo to guests and I usually ride and get it when they arrive so it's the freshest bottling possible.

Are you heading here for a specific reason RI or just kind of doing the tourist type trip. DW posted the typical popular locations or places to visit.

On Sunday nights they have a really nice shopping/food/music venue in the city along the Wang River. Nice to walk along if that's your interest. Lampang is also noted for its ceramic pottery. Also there are a lot of nice bar venues along the Wang river with music and food.

Guess it all depends on what you prefer.

    Love your thread !
I would not mind living in your area,
    it's beautiful!
Unfortunately my wife is from Khon Kaen , all her family is here, and so I am stuck here.
Not a bad place to be, but it's flat. And I would not mind having more property like you do. We have one ngan. Which is why I chose the open downstairs design . I allowed me a smaller footprint house with most of the property available to us for outside living.
Property here in Khon Kaen near the city is ridiculously expensive .
I had found one Rai (only half an acre, but better than a ngan) not too far from where we live 1,200,000 baht and was ready to buy it (it had a small river behind it) and when we went there for another look , an FN rooster started calling from one side, then another one started from the other side ,
Stereophonic rooster calling LOL . So I run. (I hate roosters)
We are still looking for a good deal.

PS: Silk festival going on here in KKC. Very nice , We went there two days ago .
To enter you had to go through a recreated ,traditional Thai village with all the pretty Thai ladies dancing

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Lampang Kawasaki is my nearest dealer. I don't visit that often but...
There is a friend's W800 in there at the moment for repairs and there was a RVF400 in our local bike workshop. It had a leaky radiator.

@stumpy - does your male tortoise make noise when he/ they mate?

I've seen the YT channel "The Tortoise Whisperer" and his alpha male (named Ike) makes these "wow" noises when he mates with the gals. The noise is like a lawn mower when it's being started.

(the tortoise channel was recommended by the YT algorithm, lol. It's strangely satisfying to watch them munch on vegs & fruits.)

Property around us between Koh Kha and Sop Prap has tripled in price in the last 3 or 4 years. In our neighborhood there is an old run down 70 year old Teak home on a small lot and the guy is asking a million baht. Apparently he has a buyer. Most are coming from BKK. Another parcel of land which is about 1.5rai just sold for 2 mil baht and its vacant. Lampang city is even higher.

It's a nice area to visit. The mountain roads are very well maintained and fun to drive and ride and no police.

Yes Katie. They do and it's annoying. I go separate them after awhile. The male also has this little hump twist they do every hump motion. That is actually funny. The issue is you have to watch them as the males are over 100lbs and the female maybe 50lbs and they can wear them out and can cause too much stress. Monster weighs 123lbs now and is the alpha male and he can easily flip over the other males.

Well another day at the "Ranch" as us mercans say. Was also a Thai holiday. Fathers day so to all of you with children, Happy Dad day.

First up was a walk jog with the mutts and then back to vacuum the pool. Beauty morning.

Set up the NFL game 9ers vs Dolphins. Have on the speaker system out by the pool so I can listen and watch while I work.

FIL has something growing, I want to say long beans but could be cucumbers.

    First Mango's starting.

Planted a few trees in pots. This is my mix, Coconut husk soaked in water, some yard clippings and dirt from my mulch pit.

Tortoises were busy today. Monster was having his way with the younger female. I had to knock him off her with my shovel. Big bastard

Last years offspring almost ready to sell to the pet store broker

Tommy heading to the shrubs to get out of the sun

Yep tortoise shit. Sort of like cow shit. Great fertilizer. Processed grass and weeds into compressed biscuits. I just toss under the hedges. Works great and no smell and no flies.

Well I am not a 9er fan Snubs. Watched it figuring to see 2 good teams play. Looks like they lost Grappola. 3rd stringer up to the plate.

I am a Dallas fan. Have been since I was a little kid. I watched that late game. They beat up the Colts pretty bad.

    Season getting good.

Then please post the temperatures in mercan! Mercans don't understand that Celsius shit. Winter weather at 18 and 26 is damn cold, certainly not pleasant. Well maybe pleasant to Eskimos.

Appreciate the tortoise turds photo and the tortoise porn. Then the tortoise porn discussion whether the tortoise's moan during sex. I think he was faking it. Do you then think the sex shimmy was to gain better sensation?

For those interested in tortoises, look up the Tortoise Whisperer. Here's a vid from the channel
Not torty porn, but the result of it - eggs! (It has 6.9M views, so lots must've been interested!)

The alpha torty in that channel (Ike) likes to make noises when he does the deed.

According to the owner, they can go on for hours. He sometimes feeds the couple while they're at it. Lol.

I agree. Has taken me a few years to get used to C instead of F. I changed my app in my phone to show metric so it's all km and C.

actually the pictures were for Katie being she asked a few questions and said she had watched YT vids on tortoises. I won't be posting anymore as there could be young children viewing. It was for educational purposes.

On that note, it is likely we will contact the zoo in CM to see if they would be interested in Monster. He is getting too big and to aggressive. He walks around the property all day trying to locate the females which hide.
