Tortoises were busy today. Monster was having his way with the younger female. I had to knock him off her with my shovel. Big bastard
Well that's a bit mean. How would you like it if someone whacked you with a shovel when you were trying to get your end away?

It's not falling off but it does get used and a few off road twists and it moves.

The script writers wrote 'A tough foker, like Vinnie Jones'.

Came to casting and they said 'who can we get that acts like Vinnie Jones?'

'Why not just get Vinnie Jones'. And there ya go.

Very interesting about your turtles Stumpy. We do pretty much the same thing here in Missouri in the USA. We have what is known as - "Three Toed Box Turtles" - even though they have usually more than three toes! - We don't use an incubator, but let them lay their eggs (7-15) wherever they want to, and then simply watch the nest(s) the best we can. Often raccoons win out, but we figure that's nature! The oldest turtle we have is a female, well over 40 years old! - BTW - I am a Thai girl from the North, namely the Nan area, but quite familiar with your neck of the woods in Lampang. My older sister used to work at Kho Ka Air Station near Lampang, when the USAF was still there during the Vietnam War......many ears ago! Cheers and Happy Holidays. Amina

Well Hello Amina and thanks for sharing. We had considered just letting the tortoises lay their eggs and let them hatch naturally. However the downside is that Sulcata Tortoises are not native to Thailand and I didn't think it right to let some escape. My wife raises them and sells to a few brokers who export them to pet stores.

Interesting information on Lampang Airport. It's a really nice clean place and I like that I can drive and be on a plane in 30 minutes to BKK.

Happy Holidays to you as well.

Yeah I always feel sort of bad. Poor guy trying to knock it out but he is just to damn big and it can cause undue stress and injury to the female when that small.

Yesterday got the vines planted that BB posted a picture of. I had to break out the new shovel that a friend brought over.

The ground behind the pool wall was rock hard but this shovel made short work of it. Nice having good yard tools here and shovels that don't fold in half.

Got my wife's tree planted in the pot. Apparently these grow very very slow as it took 6 years to get the tree that large and shaped that way. The cost wasn't very much for that much time and effort.

Had me a damn close call. I leaned over to get the hose by this palm and as I started to lean up I saw a few flying around my head and stopped. Backed up and then saw these little wasps. I hate these guys. They attack and sting in swarms and are extremely aggressive. I have been stung before by them and I do not get a reaction but my wife and FIL sure do.

After mowing up the lawns, it was time for a break by the pool

Time to prep for the BBQ.

Doing a small test run of the bone in Prime Rib. I have a much larger one for the holiday season. Hand rubbed in course salt, ground pepper and ground garlic powder.

Got the pan hot with the butter for a quick sear.

Seared on both sides for about 3 minutes or so. Off to the Q for a cook indirectly.

Got the Q up to about 375 and cooked for about 15 more minutes, then let it rest. I did a Baked Tater and Veggies on the Q.

    I think I need a bigger plate....

    Money shot as they say.

I ate about a 1/4 of it. Saved the rest for a Prime rib sammy

I think it could have been a bit more rare but still was quite good.

I am deciding which way I want to cook the larger one for the holiday.

Overcooked on the outside, undercooked on the inside. Must be a northern thing.

Just joking. Whatever floats your boat is good for food.

As a north American might say, outstanding!

Its the time of season when these Golden Orb Weaver spiders are out making huge webs across trails.

Fortunately this one above me as I rode along the river but was still a big one, 6 to 8 inches. I have ran into a few webs over the years but thankfully no spiders. The webs are huge and make a mess when you hit one.

It takes, time and patience to get cooking shots like that. Well done Stumpy.
