    Northern Thailand Retirement.

Out of all the Provinces in Thailand, Why would you want to retire in Northern Thailand, At 50 years old<, Because you are FREE, and if you get the itch for the beach you can drive or fly for a couple of hundred bucks. Freedom is what Northern Thailand is.

I would think living in the North would get boring, except for Chiang Mai, but you need a mask there even without COVID.

You might want a mask during burning season. You might need one.

But, general rule of thumb, I prefer the people in Isaan and the north, to the south of Thailand.

You guys can listen to the edicts of your overlords about putting the mask on if you go outside your house, Nope we don't, the cops don't either, sure we see on the news the "laws" and the boss speaks them out on the Mu-ban speaker(cause he has to), we just carry on as normal, nothing has changed sept for the 7/11.

Especially when they live in the US, pretend to be an Aussie, proudly state that they got their visa renewal at 06:02 in the morning (calculating time zones can be tricky, as Buttplug and chico find every time they make a meal of it) etc...

Not the dumbest but certainly the most disingenuous poster

Actually living in Northern Thailand completely depends on where one lives and your personal expectations. Just like anywhere there are hardcore rural areas that takes a special kind of person to want to leg it out there. I ride by many on my motorcycle and there is no way I could swing it. Then there are numerous areas in between offering beautiful mountain roads and lakes, great food, no traffic, numerous creature comforts and for the most part extremely nice folks. A big plus right now is during these Covid times it is still pretty normal where most the time people are not wearing masks unless they go into stores and malls and out of either rules or courtesy, wear one. Years back my wife and I thought living by a beach was the ticket. Problem that we encountered after living in 2 areas was with most beach areas they are typically inundated with loads of tourists which leads to inflated prices, continuous scamming, terrible traffic. We felt it much easier to go visit a beach area for a week or so and return back home.

But in the end, To each their own.

Remember that many Thai locals live in these areas too. Most are not rich and so there are local prices to be found everywhere. The trick is to avoid the places that cater for overpaying tourists, whether that's accommodation, restaurants, supermarkets etc.

We had our first decent rain over the last 4 days after about 4 months of nothing, starting to see the greening up already, getting back to the beautiful green mountains and jungle.
The big bonus of living up north is that you really can do what you want when you want to, and the Thai people are the best up here, infact i will bet any farang living down south that has come across a really good Thai person, they will tell you that the person came from up north.
The other bonus is that there are fewer farangs up here, no graffiti, no vandalism, fuck all car theft, you can go to sleep at night with the front door open,
And then we can pack up and drive to Ko Chang or Ko whatever we feel like at the time, for a couple of weeks or a month or as long or little as we feel then come back home to cow bells and roosters cookooing,

It must be awesome if you’re posting rambling bollocks on a forum at 4AM.

I ended up in Khon Kaen , because my wife is from there, and we wanted to be near her family,(wonderful people all of them) otherwise I had never even heard of KK, and I tell you I am glad we did. I love it there.
we live a couple of kilometers outside the ring road, and to look out our window you would think you are in a country setting, yet because the way the ring road is designed we are just about 15 minutes from any part of the city, and the airport with fights to most any major part of Thailand.
And a city it is, with all the big box stores like Tesco latus, or big C, all the Big home improvement outlets, Two different Tops, Major hospitals, and enough restaurants to eat out every day and not eat at the same place twice in a month, maybe more.
    Cant wait to get back.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

You have it good, 15 minutes to the airport, 45 for me,same same anywhere in Thailand. What a blessing we have up here, beautiful fields and mountains, and no drunk farangs running around being idiots, I can almost say that I envy you being so close to town, but, nahh, thought about it a few times and have become very settled way out here.
The other thing is that I prefer chasing chickens off my property rather than people.

Where would people who live in Thailand be without smeggly, living overseas, explaining to them what 'the trick' is?

    I've noticed that too.

And those are just the prices in English ads.

Can't see those ducks coming to order anytime soon.

And now we see another lockdown looming? Seriuosly, nothing has changed for me over past 18 months, other than putting a mask on at the 7. Life is as it was and always has been, We are so free up here, Infact we are so free that i don't want any farangs up here, They should stay in BKK Pattaya and Phuket.

Sorry, let me see if I can change the settings

Ok , I made it public. I guess when I upload it to YouTube there was one more step i needed to take before it became public, I had to click that it was safe for children, I guess YouTube must know about TD forum LOL. and they had to check for copyrights and then make it public.
I think you can view it now.
