    Afternoon in a Karen Village

A few pictures from a trip to a Karen Village in southern Lamphun province.

A government based social work group had got together with the local police to distribute medicine, food and clothes.

Turn off to the Village about 2 hours drive from Lamphun. Sign points off the main road towards the village school.

The road looks ok but it gets pretty narrow.

Concrete Road in places. Not bad for the middle of the hills.

    The School Sign. Very nice.

The school. Very quiet right now.

    School dining facilities.

    Teacher's House.

    The locals gather.

    Passing out the goods.

    He'll grow into it.

Next free haircuts. One style only.

    A few speeches ..

    then its

    Show time

    Karen dancing from the Karen

Some thai music from the Thais

This was rounded off with karaoke which soon cleared the field.

Now on to the village. The village is about 2km past the school but the road ends about 200m past the school where it gors into a gorge.

Yes this is the road to the village. It's also a river but most of the big stones have been moved to the side.

Villagers going out to collect sweet corn.

The village, a surprisingly big place with about 50 houses.

Another typical house. Most had at least one pig tethered underneath.

Great pics, and a noble cause. I visited the Karen hilltribe near Chiang Mai, they had their huts on the side of a mountain. There were only a few of them there weaving scarfs, and having their pictures taken by tourists.
