    Jade.

    Hi Northerners,
I'm looking to source jade. In quantity.
There's two main things I am after: jade pendants made to specific (but simple) designs, and roughish shards. The jade must be close to New Zealand nephrite in colour (dark green).
Can anyone point me to a wholesale dealer?
    Many thanks.

Go to Myanmar- make friends with the Chinese to cut a good deal. If you go to that market as a greenhorn you will lose money and get poor quality Jade. There is also a precious stone and jade mall on the second floor of the Skywalk Center in Mandalay- you might be able to make some contacts. You could also head north to Myitkynia, but given that the jade going over the border to China in is legally "complicated" I doubt you would get a look in without some serious contacts.

Quite a bit of jade is connected to the last dictator of Myanmar, Than Shwe- you want to support him and his twatty band of hangers on? I would not.

U picked a prett bad year to buy bulk,...price has skyrocketed and is still moving.

Already checked Taiwan, Lanka and HK markets?

Quality (price), trust and letters of authenticity may be slightly higher/better than here or Myanmar.,.

I remember visiting such a shop in Mae Sot many years ago, pretending that I am an expert, looking on the few stones under the glass. That, however, could BS the owner, a fat Chinese, sitting behind the counter, a real expert.

Watching there small people humbly entering one-by-one with a small sachet, opening it on the counter. The Chinese with his stone face did not even need to look thru his magnifier. Without uttering a word just pushed away off himself the worthless things, next one...

Enter 'Burma' and 'Simon Reeve' on pirate bay.

There are two recent programmes and in one of them he visits Burma's largest Jade market.

btw...he explains why he refers to the country as 'Burma', not 'Myanmar'.

I prefer "Burma" out of principle but sometimes need to refer to "Myanmar" because people just don't understand the significance.
