Here is another exemplar in my house:

The plates for walls and ceilings are not by rattan but by bamboo slices. It is called Bamboo Plywood, made in a factory in Lampoon (Bamboo Plywood Factory), from woven bamboo mats in a similar technique like usual wooden plywood - compacted in various thicknesses by resin under pressure and heat. It is available at some wood dealer.

I have had it (lacquered) on ceiling for 10 years without any problem.

Agree. Looks nice but it's a nightmare to maintain properly.

I am afraid you got it wrong. This is a bamboo plywood with the resin bond, not the natural bamboo mats that are without any treatment.

In fact, these natural bamboo mats - coiled up in rolles - are supplied by villagers to the factory providing the final product under heat and pressure.

Of course, sometimes you can see these natural mats - direct from the village people - used for decorating cheap bangalows at the seaside, that's different.

^ He seem's quite authoritative on this subject. Google is your friend - maybe try 'bamboo plywood' or 'natural bamboo mats'. Good luck.
