Question Really cheaper there in issan?

Hi guys. I hear time and time again that Issan is place to be if you are on a budget. Is it really that much cheaper than let's say Patty? I'm talking about housing, booze, women and so forth. Want to hear from 1st hand experiences from people that actually live there. How are things over there ? What is it like to live there compare to other cities? thanx chok dii heythere

Never been to Patty but lived in BKK for two years and for the last five years in Korat. Overall Bkk is at least twice as expensive as Korat. I am sure that Patty is much more expensive than Bkk. I am not on a budget so I don't know details.

Housing, eating out, wages etc, are much cheaper in the sticks.
Beer, petrol, cement, bread etc are a similar price everywhere.

Northern Thailand is cheaper than Isaan

I live in Issan. If you are talking about cost of living it is cheaper than Bangkok or Pattaya. I like living in the village its normally very quiet with sporadic noise coming from various parties, temple celebrations in life or death.

I do like a break away from the village now and again and have been known to head to Hua Hin or Kanchanaburi for the weekend with my girlfriend and our kids.
I work 28/28 offshore so its good for me just to come home and relax.

I dont know about P4P where I live as I have never been down that road. But I am presuming that P4P will be the same as Bangkok and Pattaya. I do know a couple of guys here that have Giks or Mia Noi,s I dont know what they pay them.

I have found that if you want to maintain farang tastes then costs are not so different in Isaan than in Pattaya. However if you want to live basic then normal thai produce is cheaper in the smaller villages etc.Once you reside in a larger city ie Udon Thani there is not a whole lot different.Maybe 20% saving on house rental or purchase but everything else is on similar levels as say Pattaya.Eating out and cost of alcohol I have found to be around the same price.I should add though that golf is less expensive if you are prepared for slightly lower standard of course than in the major areas.

Not sure about that. With reference to going out anyway. When i lived in Isaan we could either buy a btl of scotch in the 7-11 and bring it into any of the discos, or they sell them in there for pretty much the same price as the 7-11. Some were cheaper.

Don't know about pattaya but that's certainly not the case in BKK. Go to a middle class bar up there and still pay 50-60b for a large btl of beer. Usually 90-100b in BKK.

Plenty of Isaan ST houses. Usually staffed with young Lao. Probably 200-400b.

Sorry, I should have made a distinction there.
A bottle or case of beer from a shop will be the same price.
A beer in a restaurant/night club will be cheaper in the sticks

Costs in Isaan cheaper than BKK or Patters. How much cheaper depends on ones life style preference.

I don't think you have to go that far to get away from the high prices in Bangkok and Pattaya. I live in Sattahip and it's very inexpensive compared to Pattaya, but still less than an hours drive or motorcycle ride to the nightlife areas.

I rent a very large 3 bedroom/2bathroom house here (about 1 kilometer from Utapao Airport) for 5000 Baht a month and there are numerous empty ones, many for even less in the neighborhood. Also there is a food market area where local women sell food, very inexpensive and some of it is quite good. The corporate products, like anything from 7-11, or fuel are the same price everywhere.

3 bedroom bungalow in Isaan - 3000 baht - same house in Bangkok who knows?? Maybe 40,000 baht??
Eating out is a lot cheaper
Getting work done on your house / car etc. way cheaper
Haircuts, dental work and medical seem to be a lot cheaper too.

Anyone want to add to the list?

Should get three of 'em for that price then.

Move over by the Khmer regions and the darkie khmers are half the price again. Strictly for the local labourers and odd farangs who likes a bit of chocolate.

Issan is very expensive, dangerous and full of wild animals. Stay away, or the ghosts will eat you alive.

I'd say that there's not much difference.

Also, if you're the typical Pattayaite, stay the fuck away from Isaan, as you're not wanted.

Basically, that's what it gets down to - lifestyle choice. It's all relative.

Quite the opposite. Rock on up looking to buy as much pussy, property and buffalo medicine as you can and they'll be crawling to your feet.

You'll be fucking every girl in town for 500b in no time. Their parents will be delivering them to your doorstep.

    Not wanted my arse.

Of course they'll all be laughing at you behind your back for being so stupid and inferior, funny how they can do that as they're on their knees sucking cock for $5.

As much as I hate to admit it, you are mostly right. On my first visit to Isaan, I accompanied a friend and his Thai wife to her village (Kham Muang near Kalisin). We all went to the local temple to feed the monks and one of the village ladies was showing me pictures of her daughter. Almost no English spoken, but it was obvious that she was trying to find a farang for her daughter. I was quite surprised that the daughter did not look to be more than 14. Of course, I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole, but it was amusing, anyway. Apparently, setting your young daughter up with a man of nearly sixty does not violate Buddhist precepts.
The incident made me very uncomfortable. I was casting my nets for the thirtyish cousin of my friend's wife, who ran the local beauty shop. A looker she was, and
apparently available. Landed her about a year later and took her to the beach. Part of the charm of Isaan is the lack of businesses openly catering to farangs. Not that you'll do without anything.

My mate got a better deal in Bangkok when he bought a new Honda CRV.
He did try first at Honda Udon, but just was offered a car wash kit as as part of the deal.

You get more bang for your buck when buying a new house, here in Udon.
    Compared with Bangkok and Pattaya.
2.1 Million will get a new bungalow three beds, two bathrooms and a large plot of land, in a gated moobaan.

Prices are about the same for western food goods.
Decent steak is still hard to find.

The women are more expensive. Less supply.

They're also a lot more picky.

If you are on a budget Philippines is much better, Cebu for example. Food is not as good but other than that everything else is better, especially the women or should I say girls
