Khon Kaen - and nearby Villages

I am planning to visit Khon Kaen in mid-December and am trying to find a Village by the name of "BAN KAMPAKDOW".... supposedly, it is near "KAMKAN"? and/or "MANCHAKHIRI"...
I have found Manchakhiri on the Google Map, but could not locate either Kamkan or Ban Kampakdow.

I understand that it takes about 45 minutes to drive from Khon Kaen to Ban Kampakdow and I would greatly appreciate, if someone on the Board could tell me:

    - where Ban Kampakdow is located,
    - where the nearest Town is that I could find on the Google Map,
    - what the best way is for me to get there?
    - should I just get a Taxi? Hire a driver for the day - or half day?
    - and what can I expect to pay for the Taxi - or the hire driver?

I just wish to look at the Village, have a walk around for a few hours - and then return back to Khon Kaen.

Any advise and suggestions - thank you in advance!!

Manchakhiri (Manchakiri) is a district here in Khon Kaen.

Kamkan (kham khaen) is a sub-district within Manchakiri.

Ban Kampakdow is a village in Kamkan.

Look for the village in google maps with this name (copy and paste it, it may help):
    บ้านคำปากดาว ตำบลคำแคน อำเภอมัญจาคีรี จังหวัดขอนแก่น 40160

Thank you S Landreth, this helped a lot - and I did now locate "Kham Khaen, but when I zoomed in to look for "Ban Kampakdow"....still could not locate it.

If I ask a Taxi driver in Khon Kaen to take me there - would they know where to go? Or will I need to obtain a "local Map" once I get to Khon Kaen?

Have now arrived in BKK and hope to go to Khon Kaen tomorrow.

Can anyone assist me - how to find a driver that can take me to the Village - and back to town?

Hire the driver - Taxi or otherwise a private car - for 1 day.... what can I expect to pay? And where can I find this??

All I need is a "safe"car and a "safe" driver - it does not have to be a Limo....

    Any suggestions are much appreciated.

the village "Ban Kham Pak Dao" is 1 km to the west of Kham Khaen.

The link บ้านคำปากดาว ตำบลคำแคน อำเภอมัญจาคีรี จังหวัดขอนแก่น 40160 in google maps is for the school in the village. cut and paste the thai.

Get to Khon Kaen Airport and get a taxi.

If you are staying at a hotel in Khon Kaen ask they will arrange it for you.

Google maps puts it 50 km west south west of Khon Kaen should take an hour or so each way.

Highway 12 west 5 km, highway 2062 south 40km then 5km north east on an unnumbered road.

Hope you find what your looking for.

The King Cobra Village is also 50km from Khon Kaen City. I mention this because we were there a few days back & a taxi from KK arrived as we were leaving. My wife asked the driver what he charged the couple. 1,500 baht roundtrip, including waiting there for an hour or so. That should give you an idea of what you'd be paying for a taxi.

A more adventurous option would be to to try and take a bus or two. Not sure if it's even possible, but it could be a fun experience-and quite a bit cheaper. Hope you get there either way.

I bet you can walk from one end of the place to the other in about 2 minutes, dust, chickens, poverty, corrugated iron shacks and half finished houses....a couple of half drunk washed out farangs sitting outside of some dirty corner shop.

There, I saved you a journey....thank me later.

    Thank you for your suggestions.
Actually, it was a good experience overall and I again thank all the contributors for their input & suggestions.
Arrived in Khon Kaen by Train from BKK, booked into Serviced Apartments and Reception was able to assist in organising a Taxi for 1000 Bath - had a nice drive to the Village, there were quite a few Farang Houses in the Village (no drunken Farangs sitting anywhere.... as suggested by another contributor) - the Hills nearby made for a scenic background and apparentyly there are also some Waterfalls to explore on my next visit there....
Took the Bus back to BKK and enjoyed this side-trip very much.

    ....... good question OhOh.

As this was a surprise visit and only just to check the area where (she) is from - and without (her) knowledge..... it turned out, that (she) had been there for the previous 2 weeks to help with the rice harvest.....and had just left a day before I got there.
    But all is good.
