    Nong Khai river life

Here some photos from the Nong Khai riverfront, which is a surprisingly well-developed area.

In the daytime the brown colour does spoil its beauty a bit, but the width and speed of the river is impressive.

Wat Lumdoun is probably the most photogenic Wat in town

The Friendship Bridge to Laos is unfortunately not very moving to look at

Continue downstream to the end of the Rimkong road and you'll find this one, can't seem to find what it's called...

The image of a lone fisherman would probably be much more idyllic without the icecream umbrella and all the junk lying around

A welcoming dragon on the promenade

Most of the locals seem to do some sort of fishing

One afternoon there was a full semicircle rainbow above the promenade, which is very upmarket-looking compared to the town itself

The sunsets are the highlight of Nong Khai, as it looks slightly west across the Mekhong

At night there are loads of riverside eateries, but being low season they were mostly empty

This was the most lively bar when I was there, albeit full of Laotians. Bars change hands or simply close pretty regularly in Nong Khai it seems
Did you just make that up?

    Nice pictures.

The picture above is from the chedi opposite Wat Taat. It is a replica of the chedi that fall into the river in 1849; remains can still be noticed when waterlevels in the river are low.

Walk west from Tha Sadet (Indochina) Market , after about 300 m you enter "Alcohol Alley" , about 200m up on the left have 3 or 4 bars with freelancers , Nong's Bar being the most popular .

Yes, towards the Friendship bridge from the centre of town is a large hotel called the Royal Mekong which has good views. Haven't stayed there though.

Mut Mee Guesthouse is probably the closest to that description, minus the beach that is.

Great photos of my favourite Thai city, which capture the riverfront perfectly. The chedi is a disappointment when you look up close. Unfinished, exposed concrete everywhere, badly painted (the gold paint is flaking) and non-waterproof paint used. Nice to know things like this aren't just confined to Pattaya.

Am I alone in thinking the shitty beer bars that have opened in the past couple of years by the river should be shut down?

There's a little brothel village a couple of miles west of town along the river, might still be there.

Looks like there have been lots of changes in Nong Khai.

Beautiful sunset-picture you made of Nong Khai, thank you!

Which bar is the picture below of it, do you remember the name?

No, but by now it would have changed name anyway. Bars tend to change hands a lot in NK. It was in the busiest bar area, just west of the market

    Ban Mae Rim Nong Khai

The room costs less than 800 baht.

Room, shower and furniture are OK, the balcony is smal but enough for two persons.
