Some more pics from Sala Kaeo Ku

Couldn't find many on the forum, so here are some of my photos from Sala Kaeo Ku, the biggest attraction in Nong Khai (about 10 minutes out of town actually).

Here you can see how the massive statues are made, a shell of reinforced bricks decorated with cement. Unfortunately means they won't last long, so get along and check it out while you can : )

Gun toting soi dogs harassing an elephant

A real snake amongst the concrete ones

Give it fifty years and the whole place might look like this

Buddha has a seven-headed serpent, that's why you should give oranges

    Err, WTF?

Even the biggest statues are covered in this detail

Pass through the big mouth for some cultural lessons

Plenty of these cheerful fellows around

    A lesson in domestic violence?

Every minute another young Thai man does this

    Pest control for deities

Keep looking around and you'll find more and more Buddhas

    Dogs playing poker... seems familiar
Did you just make that up?

It is a nice place, but also somewhat... artificial. But definately the scene is impressive. Easy to get to with a tuk-tuk from downtown Nong Khai. Ask the driver to wait for you for the return trip, as it might be difficult to find a free tuk-tuk at the site.

I rented a scooter instead, only about 100B a day in Nong Khai, while the dodgy Chinese moto-trike style tuk tuks are a tad pricey. The most basic map of Nong Khai should get you there

20 baht for falangs and 10 baht for thais to go inside .they also have a large cactus garden there where they have cactuses that have been growing for many years which you can purchase but the very big ones come in at 10.000 - 20,000 baht each
so i bought myself a small one for 10 baht ...

But well worth a visit if you are up that neck of the woods
I started of in life with fcuk all, and I still got most of it left !!
