    Flooding

I have a friend coming to Thailand next month and he wants to go to Korat for a few days. Is there an heavy flooding going on there? Any hotels you can suggest? Thanks for any help.

I've read BH said it's dry there but let him confirm again.

BTW, don't he fancy Ayuttaya? It's closer and just great!

Korat is always dry! It's too bad they can't figure out a way to divert and/or retain all of this water. There's all of this flooding now. And it a few month's time, people are going to be complaining about drought.

I think that things will be back to normal in a few weeks' time, unless there are more heavy rains.

There will still be a lot of cleaning up and repairs going on, but most of the roads should be passable.

I like the area but it is heavily flooded at this time and I don't think my friend needs to deal with that. Thanks anyway though.

I'm sorry I missed this thread.

Korat is high and dry now. No flooding in sight and there's been no rain at all for the past three days.

As for hotels, what do you have in mind? We've got all sorts: cheap, slightly upscale, out-of-town resorts, etc.

Ayuttaya is flooding but not every where. Anyway, it's up to you. If you change your mind, you are always welcome to Ayuttaya.

Thanks BH and I would say my friend is kind of inbetween the cheap and upscale range for a hotel. He walks around just checking things out so something in town would be the best for him. He'll do 2-3 hour walks at a time, morning and afternoon. He doesn't mind a beer or three, so if you know any place he should check out, then please let me know.

Gow, I've taken him to Ayuttya myself once to check out the temples and stuff and he's been there on his own once also. If he does change his mind, I'll let you know as I'm sure you would be a better guide than I.

Ms. B works at the Ratchapruk which is a short walk from downtown and near the old bus terminal. It would be a good place to stay for an inveterate walker. I love to walk all over downtown Korat. A standard room is 1200 baht.

Two other, slightly cheaper hotels in the downtown area are the Chao Phraya and the Korat Hotels. Both have "adult" type entertainment places nearby.

    Places for beers include:

George & Dragon, which is the closest to downtown.

A little further out, but next door to each other are The Pizza Shop and Pasinee. (Tuktuk drivers know The Pizza Shop but not the Pasinee.) Still further out but a great place for a beer is the newly opened "Sports & Cocktail" bar run by a guy who has a couple of bars in Pattaya.

This thread on KoratFarang has more nightspots: Pubs and Nightspots in Korat

Some Korat restaurants listed here: Korat Dining Guide
