terry, thanks.
Do you negotiate in Udon at Avis ? I mean if you book on www.avis.com then the price is set, is it not ?
I booked online with Avis, but they wouldn't accept my Thai credit card, so they put me in touch with Triple Y. I doubt they're haggleable.Quote:

If you plan to rent the car for a decent amount of time say a week at least you can email them and give it a crack.
Go to AVIS Rent a car in Thailand - Thai Car Rental is the Car Rental service Thai service in cities of Thailand by Thai international Rent a car co ltd in Thailand.- chauffeur Drive leasing Limousine , Daily Car rentlal , Monthly Car Rental , Yearly Car r and send the Udon branch an email. Never know until one asks.
Good luck with it. As I said before, don't fok around, make sure you pay the extra for full insurance.
Terry, thanks. Yes, I do like to have the insurance. I once made a large scratch in the door of a cadillac when driving too close to a truck in NYC. Fortunately I had opted for the loss damage waiver, so I didn't pay anything.
Driving in Udon is like driving in NYC sometimes, and in Udon you moreover have to contend with all the death seeking scooter riders.
Speaking of which, it seems like it is (too) easy to get a driver's license in Thailand.
Are these licenses valid in Europe ?
Amazingly, yes, although they'd probably need an IDP as well.Quote:

Maybe it says in the small print on the back of the renting agreement ?
This is the Avis text from Avid Singapore:
Renter is liable for cost of replacement vehicle or parts of it if the vehicle is stolen. Theft protection (TP) can be purchased to waive this liability to an insurance excess. Details are available upon request.
If, however, you access the Udon site via the international website avis.com then it says "Collision Damage Waiver included", "Liability insurance not available"...!, and "theft protection 300 baht/day".
I wonder about the liability part, though.
Lek Car Hire. Brand new cars and good rates.
Thanks !
I always use avis.
Great service at Udon Airport.
Compare the prices of all major and independent car rental suppliers in Udon Thani Airport and then choose your preferred car rental supplier and car type.
Since you bumped the thread...I'll add my vote to lek...butyou need to book in advance due to popularity.
Had excellent hire from them more than once and was able to extend over the phone without problem. Treat with a little respect, like washing the car before return when you are in the sticks, and they don't forget. Cheaper than the main dealers without cheating like certain other locals...
Budget for peace of mind
Cheaper than a mate of mine recently paid, sounds fair.
Recently I have been using this sight " VIP rental cars ".
When you search your pick up point it compares all the deals available at that point.
Its bloody good, shows the total price with all things included like theft waver, Insurance and the works.
I always rent an Eco car, that's all I need. rates usually come in around 8-900 per day all in.
Pay a deposit on line and pick the car up.
Saying that, I have just been to the Thai travel show in Bangkok and they where doing mid week rentals and off peak for 500 Baht per day.
Bought 8 days hire at 500 per day including Insurance and theft protection. :)
Any way, google up " VIP rental cars ".
