    Agreed.
My secretarys younger unemployed layabout brother just got married. Rice farming family. Sin sot - 60K was the asking (I think they negotiated it down a tad). Mind you the girl was 14.....( to which nobody batted an eye lid of course).

No insist on a farang wedding and traditions, or the weddings off. In the west papa pays,"sorry darling that's the tradition".
Why do so many people get shafted by "Thai" tradition. Why does everything have to be done the Thai way. I know, it's because it suits the bloody Thais.

What if I tell you that in the thai tradition ....the bride side supposed to pay for the wedding? Will anyone here believe me?

I mean for the cost of the ceremony itself,
but the reception cost is negotiable, however most times the groom side pays for the reception.

Times are tuff everone is cutting back

Buy the lass some nice gold and pay for a big party so all in 100 to 200k, Now if you cant affored that well you shouldnt get married because even if you do most probably aint going to last long if you cant give her a life upgrade.
If they ask for more than 200k then they are just being greedy barsteds and you should tell them so.

The BIL had lovely little bitch of wife that I always thought was a nice bird until she ran off to pattaya to catch a farang and found out it wasnt so easy, came back and kissed ass to get her husband back and has just run off to Pattaya again and told the BIL she doesnt want to work for a living and wants to catch a farang.
This girl had a decent edumcation and the family owns around 100 rai and is a dental assistant in Khon kaen, I guess she wasnt as bright as I thought, BIL is a decent hard working young lad that didnt belt her or drink to excess.
I wonder how she is going to go chewing on a wrinkly cock

Solly. I thought a brand new pick up, top of the range of course, went without saying. I mean everybody knows that.

Anything you say you Moon unit. And I thought I was bad for cherry picking the bits of Thai culture that suited me.

If I remember well, the family that take care of our land asked for 200,000 for their eldest daughter, about 10 years salary for the groom, a local guy, his mother paid.

The daughter was already pregnant, her mother said that if her daughter husband leave at least they will have the Sin Sod to help raise the kid.

The daughter is completely useless and now want to go to Bangkok to work. I don't know what I'm going to say if one day she comes back with a falang ...

Yea most people, esp the farangs don’t know "that little fact" of the thai tradition
    Here….
    The Bride side….pays for
The morning wedding, her own dress, the monks, foods for the guests, including flowers, & plastic chairs (unless you can borrow from a temple)

    The groom side….pays for
Most times the reception, the rings, house that they will be living in, and whatever the couple needs to start a life togethe.
Oh the car too, unless it’s gifted by his/her parents.

The entire money from those envelopes suppose to go to the couple only, most parents do not keep those, not even a part of it.

The above is just a typical norm in Thailand.

And I bet the Thais will keep this information to themselves.
So the brides parents pay for all the cheap stuff and the groom not only has to stump up a fck load of dough for the sinsot, he also has to find a ship load of money for houses and cars.
Cheque bin her. About 10,000 baht.
Cheque bin him. About 2.5 million.
Cheque bin him, farang. 5 million. Farang prices. Thais get a discount.
