    Sawang Daen Din update..November 2013.

The new Sawang Daen Din local produce market has been under construction for more than a year, and is nearing completion. It is located 200 meters North of the main Traffic lights and T intersection in the center of town on highway 22
The building roof is on and internal fit-out and car parks are being completed so may be open around New Year I guess. This new location will reduce the bottleneck of motorbikes and traffic at the present market location on highway 22, and will certainly aid traffic flow and improve safety. It looks to have much more upmarket and improved facilities, refrigeration toilets and drainage.

Looks good Roger, If i find any reason to want to visit your end of town in sawang deang din I will sure take a look.
Sort Of unlikely because a mates wife comes from there and she is as mad as a Rabid dogs flea.
Nice truck tho! I am sure Marmite would approve,
There can’t be good living where there is not good drinking

Sawang Daen Din update November 2013.

As an update on good "watering holes"....The Chomdao resort still has its pleasant outdoor undercover restaurant with live Isaan music each night, and seems to be getting quite busy with weddings and large functions.

If you are interested in some very cold beer, with chilled glasses and pleasant local musicians, I have found a very pleasant Drinking Spot in the evenings! Its called "The Jake" and run by "Jake" a musician, and his partner AOR who has a beautiful voice, and sings Isaan ballads accompanied on guitar by Jake. Jake and some other "drop in" local musicians play a variety of music, but seem to like "country and Western" most and the bar is set up looking like it is straight out of rural Texas! Aor is a school teacher and speaks English, and they are both very pleasant hosts providing good service at very reasonable prices.
They also have good WiFi available to patrons, and there is a Thai "Steak house" family restaurant next door ....which is a different experience!

    "JAKE" the man!

"AOM" his partner host and vocalist.

So if you like amateur musicians "Country and Western" and Isaan live music and cold beer...this is the place...In my view the best bar for a cold beer and pleasant company in SDD!

LOCATION: Approximately 300 meters North of Highway 22, on a long straight Soy (which seems to have no name) running North at right angles off Highway 22, one Soi to the West of The Soi with P.E.A. (the Electricity Company) office on the corner. (basically the last major Soi going West towards TESCO LOTUS!)

I am trying to post a pic of where I am staying at the moment. Hope this works. The place is called Luxury Apartments. Currently they have a 10% off special till the end of the year. Place is made up of little bungalows which are brand new. Cost is 450 baht a night. Location is just off highway 22, on the left 6.3 klms from tesco lotus going towards Sakon Nakhon.

Locals even 200 meters away did not know it by name.....and as there is no sign in English ...and it looks like, and doubles as, a ladies Hairdressing salon during the day when it happens to be open.
    Here it is!

As to how to find it.......It is physically about 80 meters from Highway 22 on the Northern Side....Tucked away in the South Western Corner of a small local food market, one street West of the Main T Intersection traffic lights in the center of town. It is one of two adjacent shop frontages, with roller doors, the adjacent one a young locals hangout, which seems always open as a good source of free wifi, and filled with young Thais
Marcos bar seems to be intermittent in being open, but I did get a cold beer and good service from one of the girls!
MARCOS bar, does have very good cheap very cold beer, with ice cold glasses, and good service when it is open and there were some lovely young ladies seated inside ....but absolutely and totally absorbed with text-ing and net surfing on their phones, oblivious to the rest of the world!
I imagine things are different when Marco is about...The planned fitness facility will be interesting to watch develop!....Good Work Marco and hope to meet you when you are back.
Nice you been visit Mini Bar, yes it just small place and we open it more only for fun but it will be bigger in future. After 2 year we have more space and then we make bigger bar. Young Thai customer (20) was attacked by four other young Thai's, the wife ran over(only person to do so) to stop them, they pulled out a knife, stabbed the boy, then slit his throat, stabbing her as well in the process. Customer killed, 3 in jail, main one still missing, restaurant closed, don't need that level of aggression.

thanks, she's getting better, a bit rough having someone have their throat slit in front of you, she didn't know she was hurt, though all the blood was the customers, till the hospital told her, "Nope, you have a big hole in your arm", large slice over 5 inches long and very deep into muscle. The main cop was very good, but they've been friends for a long time, I liked how he told the team of cops the next day at the site, doing the investigation "She fights by herself 4 guys as they kill someone, and you guys hardly ever do anything!"

Nice lad the boy that died, weirdly, or maybe not, the main culprit was a friend of his.

Terrifying stuff. I haven't been here long but the youth violence is Sawang is as bad as Brisbane. I thought with everyone being Buddhist and family orientated it would be almost nonexistent. GF says a lot is drug related. I will never understand how people here stand by and just watch things like this.
