If I were you Mendy I'd resand it and place used Yorkshire teabags all over the top for a week then when the artistic stains have set in.
Give it a nice varnish and polish, job done.

Nice Job Mendy.. top refinishing job. !!!

Now please go shoot that pigeon so the Tookay can enjoy his new home without having endless pigeon crap running down it.

I have 2 big Tookay's living between our left over bricks and roof tiles I stacked against the wall in the back forty area. One is a good 15 inches long ( 38cm for those metric users ). You can hear its bark all across the yard at night. As long as it stays there, it is safe.

Nice job Mendip, although i'm not sure why i got a disapproving mention in dispatches btw and don't take this the wrong way, did you try the danish oil on the underside? to me the finish looks to red but each to their own i reckon you'd have a nicer colour with a more neutral oil.

^ Mike, I didn't really try it out first because the Danish Oil cost 1200 Baht so it was going to get used even if it came out bright turquoise.

This was the 'Red Mahogany' colour which I think is fitting. I put on the second coat today, so two to go. Then I'll be doing the teak table with the Tung Oil, which I guess will be more neutral so we'll have plenty of variety.

FWIW, I like the red colour of mahogany, that's what makes it special.
The Tung Oil will make the teak look brownish, a sort of teak colour, if you will.
I think both will look good when finished.

^ I think it will look nice and match other mahogany wood around the house.

Besides, I'm not sanding it down again, not with this massive blister on my palm!

Well, that's an outside table standing in for the teak coffee table while it gets sorted. It has a matching four chairs and kind of bench seat. It does need doing, but where will this end?

There's also two more large mahogany tables and various other small tables and stuff. In some ways I wish I'd never started...

well you might as well get your monies worth from the gardener, just take the QA role and tell him not to over step his boundaries beyond sanding - you can take the glory finishing work

^ I've just been walking around the house and garden taking pictures of my wood and to sort it all out, wood () be a Herculean project. But why not? I'll post some photos tomorrow when I have time.

One thing I know from being a geologist is to think geologically. Did you know that you could walk up to the top of the Mendip Hills every day and carry down one teaspoon of sediment to the bottom. It may seem pointless but if you have unlimited time, eventually the Mendips will no longer exist. Yes, my favourite geology teacher gave me that. You have to think geologically.

One day the wife will put my boiled egg in the egg cup the right way round!

well he's not wholly correct. The sandstorms from the Sahara play a part. some of the 180 million tonnes sand gets distributed right across europe will play a part in deciding how long that teaspoon shovelling takes - especially if a significant chunk ends up in the Mendips and he's not taken account of the potential for the impact of another ice age.

To the best of my knowledge, no. More so if you post a pic of your palm with a blister on it
