    Now that's 'Living the dream'

Imagine if that bottle was a Leo and water was green and brown and there were 7 soi dogs in there, half the holes were bunged up with dog fur and shit, the back of the gardeners head was submerged at the bottom of the pic and a club foot with crusty nails was in view on the back ledge?

    If mendy did hot tubs

Today was a busy one. Monday again so up early responding to the customers emails they sent later Friday and prepping for the late today US team plus a few factory calls and updated. After that was done, wife and I went to Lampang city to pick up her "Special veggies and whatevers" she likes and I stopped by the big wood place to pick up a hunk of plywood as the crap particle board shelves were about to buckle.

I really like this lumber/hardware store. They have a great selection.

Got home with my AB 15 hardwood plywood. One thing to this day do not understand is the entire "Can't drop your tailgate down and drive" BS. In the US that is almost a standard event, here for some reason it is illegal and my wife whinges to the end of the earth about it when I ask. WTF....

Gives you an idea how that crap pressed wood potato chipped as we call it

Nothing better than getting a new tool and using it almost instantly

Cuts like a dream and no cord.

Shelves cut. Made 5 to replace all.

All done and installed. Nice to have hardwood shelves.

    Nicely organized tools JP.

It nice to be able to know were a tool is and instinctively put your hand on it, instead of rummaging around looking for it for half an hour.

2 came from the US when I moved over here. 1 my Dad gave me. The 3rd one I bought later because it's a cordless hammer drill for cement drilling but I use them all frequently.

Out of interest, what kind of hardwood plywood is that and what does a sheet set you back if I may ask.

Here in Canada a single sheet of three quater inch good one side plywood will cost you $125 CDN even though the mill is just up the road.

    Nice job. Cheers.

The AB 15 hardwood plywood which is about 1/2" cost me 810 baht (about $25 usd). AB 20 is closer to 3/4" and it was 1250 bht (about $35 usd).

    Cheers

After only three days the Thai long beans have started to germinate. There's six shoots just poking through the soil.

I may be able to start transplanting them into the veggie bed his weekend.

So, Loy Kratong has come and gone for another year, yet my beans continue to germinate and grow.

Twelve of the Thai long beans have now germinated after just four days and there's plenty more to come... there's loads of places where the compost has been pushed up above a seedling, just before it pushes through.

The English runner beans continue to thrive.

It's quite amazing how fast these Thai long beans germinate and grow. This, after just five days.

So far 62 (out of 73) Thai beans have germinated, compared to 14 (out of 48) English Purple Emperor runner beans. I guess this is why you should stick with indigenous plants when growing veggies.

It's looking like Thai long beans with our Christmas chicken this year.

I don't understand why you plant the seeds in a starter box and then transplant the germinated seedling.
Whenever I have planted beans or most other seeds I just plant straight into the ground which will be their permanent home. Most of the time I plant 2 seeds in a single hole so that if 1 doesn't germinate I still have a plant where I want it without transplanting, although there is always the ability to transplant another seedling into that spot if both failed to germinate.

I must admit I haven't planted anything in the last couple of years as I have been busy trying to control what grows naturally i.e. fukkin weeds!

Absolutely LT. I am doing exactly what I want at this juncture in my life. My personal integrity and values carry the utmost priority with me. My grand father told me a long time ago, those can never be taken, only you can give them away.

Was checking out the tags on my moto and said "Ooops, they are expired". A quick 5 minute ride and inspection done. The guy that works there has a VFR400. We talk a bit about motos while he does the check. Good for another year.

Was washing down my walkway by the pool area and noticed that water wasn't moving and backing up. I went and got a long piece of PVC to push out what I thought was debris and leaves. Low and behold it was a big fat ass toad. Annie enjoyed watching it fly out the tube and she chased it around the yard.

You have a good point ootai and sometimes I think that I'm committed to creating myself extra work.

A lot of the shit I do is to show the daughter stuff and try to get her off her bladdy screens, so that's one consideration.

Another consideration is that I'm so sick of watching the Thai contingent just throw down seeds of any kind willy-nilly, watching a tangled mass of seeds germinate in clumps, and then watch pretty much every single crop fail due to overcrowding. I have maybe over-reacted to this and gone a bit anal.

But consider if I had used your method with my English Purple Emperor beans? Only 14 out of 48 germinated so I would have a full bed of my pyramid trellises with just one or two plants growing on each, or maybe not. There is method to my madness!

I would re-phrase that statement to be There is madness in my method. The first madness was expecting to get more of your homey beans to germinate the second was not spending a bit more and getting good certified seeds and the third was planting beans from your cold home country and expecting them to germinate in the furnace here.

I will grant you that with your pommy beans it was probably the right way to go by starting them in a box but that doesn't mean you have to use the same method for more hardy Thai stock. Also you could have replanted (which you did in any case) within the main bed. Stop trying to justify to yourself that you know what you are doing.

Anyway good luck with your beans I hope the squirrels, rats or black mites don't eat them before you do.

That's all I've got left... please don't take that away from me...

I've eaten and grown beans in many different continents. The proof will be in the eating.

Many seed packets have instructions to do this. There must be a reason. Any horticuluralists handy?

^^ 65 germinated bean plants say that I must be a bit of a horticorularist.

I think it's not only to protect from disease and pests but also so that the successful plants can be transplanted at optimal density.

I am also not a horticulturist bit I reckon that's a whole lot of bull shit, sorry Mendip.

My take on the idea of planting in seed boxes revolves around people who live in areas that have cold temperatures and therefore seeds are started in planter boxes in greenhouses.
That way they can be planted earlier than if they were planted outside with no protection from the elements.

If either of you 2 Einsteins can, please explain the difference if a seedling is transplanted from a "seed box" or from a "garden bed".

Just another urban myth if you ask me, and before you jump on me I know neither of you asked me but what the hell.

If you are ever feeling a bit blasé or melancholy just click on this thread. It really is a classic for me, because its a throwback to the "good old days". Nothing but fun with some damn witty banter. Good crowd in here.
