Just a reminder of where the 'daughter bedroom extension' project was a month ago.

    From the 'Buddha room' side...

And from the daughter's bedroom side...

We returned home from a holiday in the UK to find the project had miraculously moved on.

    From the 'Buddha room' side...

And from the daughter's bedroom side...

I think a good job done!

I'd instructed the gardener to on no account do any painting, as I know from experience the mess that will be made, but he had painted just the poles to hide the new render that had been applied to smooth things up, and a narrow strip of ceiling where the new plaster board had gone in..

You can't blame him for trying to impress his boss, I guess. But in just painting the two poles and the section of ceiling there was paint spattered absolutely everywhere. But maybe I should be more grateful?

Anyway, we only arrived home from the UK yesterday and now, owing to a long planned job falling through and me finding another at last minute, I have to leave for Norway at the weekend. This gives just three days at home in which to finish this project off.

Today I decided to paint the ceiling white to match everything up, leaving the walls for tomorrow.

I finished the Buddha room side and put on the fan to speed up the paint drying so I could patch up any missed bits... it's really hard not to leave gaps when painting white on white.

While waiting, I decided to wash down the walls in preparation for the blue emulsion tomorrow... my mind must have drifted away during this job, a consequence of having about 15 different things on my mind at once... and if you've ever wondered what it's like to climb up a ladder and get twatted on the head by a ceiling fan blade on speed 3, then I can tell you that it fucking well hurts.

An hour later I was in A & E at the Bangkok Hospital.

I had to have a head X-ray before they would stitch me up as they said the cut was through to the bone and they were worried about a skull fracture, would you believe. During this wait, I had an email from my agent asking whether to confirm the job in Norway next week. I told him about my predicament but said that so long as there's no fracture, I want to do the job. I told him no need to tell the Client as I'm sure that they wouldn't be all that happy about this, they have some strict rules about going offshore.

Anyway, there was no fracture and just seven stitches to show for my day's work. I'll have to try and get a colleague take them out for me next week while offshore.

I even had my hair washed of all the blood by one of the nurses... a male nurse sadly which was a bit weird to be honest.

A pack of anti-biotics and several thousand Baht later and I was on my way home. I told the hospital that I didn't want any painkillers, I really don't like taking tablets for that kind of thing.

On the way home I got the Grab guy to stop off at 7-Eleven so I could get my preferred type of pain killer... and would you believe that when I arrived back at the house I told the wife that the hospital had run out of pain killers so gave me a half bottle of whisky instead. This was supposed to be a joke but I soon realised that she had taken me seriously and was straight on the phone, complaining to her friends about how ridiculous this was.

    I'll leave her to it!

Tomorrow is the first coat of blue on the walls, without the fan on.

    It's good to be home.

Wishing you a speedy recovery mendy and hopefully someone on board can take out the stitches. But on a plus side with all this flying around the spoon collection should be good

^ It was KLM mate, compressed wood cutlery.

But... on another plus side, I was given a Tetanus booster which I'll get back on insurance. I'm about to get all my jabs updated because I'm hoping to work back in West Africa next year, so at least this one will be free.

You won't do that again. Just goes to show you are never too old to learn.

What I don't understand is why you haven't got Jess on the painting?

^ Jess washed the walls as high as she could go... the rest, as they say, is history!

Yeah, I just switched off. Thinking about what I need to do for this job next week, listening on 5 Live to our Pentathlon woman getting a Bronze in the Olympics while wondering if I can wangle a day in Bangkok enroute to Norway.

It's a wonder that I remember anything at all. My brain does seem to be a bit scrambled lately.

Ouch. I had a car boot close on my head before. I crawled back home with blood pouring out of my head. Everyone ignored me ringing the doorbell and when the wife eventually turned up she bought me 1 (ONE!) tissue. Daughter managed something a bit more useful.

^ Think yourself lucky. A few years ago a guy was decapitated in Cheddar Gorge by looking in his car boot, when there was a rock fall...

I see you splurged on a JW whiskey instead of yah dong… even if it is red label.

Another successful project rolls off the assembly line.

Two coats of blue emulsion and job done!

That door behind the screen in the far corner leads on to a shared balcony with my office. The daughter has a way better bedroom than I had as a kid. And she has two lights, two bastard ceiling fans and three doors... there ain't many kids who can boast that!

    Oh, and two windows!

And this is the murderous bastard ceiling fan that did all the damage yesterday.

I didn't turn it on until I had finished today, the bastard.

All that's left to do tomorrow is hang the curtains and then move some furniture around. Then get meself back to hospital for a head wound check-up that I should have done today, get a haircut (which won't be as easy as usual under the circumstances) and pack me bag for offshore Norway. I can't say that this will have been the most relaxing four days at home that I've every had.

    ^ I've heard that before.

It is longer than it's wide but will be good with the desk/pc set-up in the new area. Maybe I'll consider a blind of something to separate the two areas at some point.
