Easy. Just get a grinder with a concrete diamond blade and a sharpie. Draw the arch on both sides if the wall and then follow the lines you've draw.

^^ So, how did you get on with the Grindr?

Another Songkran, another fiery crotch rash. I hate this swelteringly hot, humid weather and every year's the same. I think that maybe because I have hairy legs, undue friction is formed as they rub against my balls but whatever the cause, I'm walking as though I have a couple of Helge's whoosh melons between my legs right now.

I have to drop the daughter off at a schoolmate's house for 07:30 tomorrow as she's going away for a couple of days to Khao Yai, leaving me completely alone until Thursday. I'm very tempted to come back home after dropping her off, slap a load of Canesten across the infected area and spend an entire day doing nothing else but lying on my bed in aircon drinking ice cold Leo. We shall see.

But there was no such luxury today, I had tiles to find. As is typical with these projects, the initial high expectations of completing a perfect project with matching tiles have been lowered to 'just get the bloody thing done'. I tried two more local places for the tiles with no luck, and then after lunch headed out to the 204, the new ring road out to the north west of Korat, the other side of town. The first place was negative, but after a lot of barely understood communications I understood that there could be a place on the other side of the road, a few km away.

I really hate doing U-turns on these roads... and today the 204 was carrying half of Isaan heading up country for Songkran.

Using Google maps, this seemed to be the place they were going on about.

I started to think that if I couldn't find matching tiles, then just completely different?

But I just know that I'd return home from work to find a piece of the boat in the wrong place, or one of the horses upside down.

Or even just one fish upside down?

    And then I struck gold!

No matching peach-coloured tiles but the whole shower can be done in white. To be honest, by this point, so long as the tiles were the right size I would have taken lime green.

I needed 60 peach tiles and 30 white tiles, so 'gau-sipp si khao' it was.

And I was lucky here... the poor guy nearly went off to the warehouse for 90 boxes of tiles instead of 90 tiles. Apparently 'gong' is box and 'penn' is piece. I ended up with just six boxes of sixteen tiles each, which along with a couple (song penn ) of fancy tiles that can be broken down into strips to kind of match the existing bathroom, all cost less than 1700 Baht.

Job done! Another major feeling of satisfaction in achieving something that a teenager could have easily accomplished back in Old Blighty.

I had to go directly to pick up the daughter from school after the tile shop, and as I sneaked in for a piss I took a look around the tiling in the school toilets.

To be honest I think that I was being a bit pedantic in my hopes of having matching bathroom tiles. The more you look at restroom walls in Thailand, the more you realise that nothing matches and tilers just use whatever left over tiles they have knocking around... and everyone just seems to accept it.

Did you just post the 'word' restroom?

    *shudder*

And you're concerned about your daughter's English?

Isn't it extraordinary how Americans adopt our language and some of them are amazed, 300+ years later that some of the adaptations they've made aren't the preferred terms in England.

It's like being incredulous about the absence of deep pan pizza pies with pineapple in Napoli.

Really quite idiosyncratic and, if I'm honest, quite cute.

I originally called it a bathroom, but there's no bath. Bog or toilet didn't seem right so I eventually opted for 'restroom', although I did linger on that for a while as it's not a word I am comfortable with.

I just asked the daughter what she calls it at school, and she said 'bathroom'.

    It's a minefield...

In the company of friends in the US...is it common to say 'I'm fkin bursting for a rest', or the equivalent?

And what does 'bathroom and the rest for around the house' mean?

I had previously assumed that this 'resting' meant taking a piss.

You do that around the house?

At least on an airplane things are clear.

Americans aren't that uncouth. I would say "I really need to use the bathroom, urgently." because we're all polite and shit.

So the absence of a bath isn't an issue?

Why not call it a shower room, cos it doesn't have a shower either?

American comfort rooms always have some sort of bathing facility/shower included. After all, we invented Tex-Mex and sometimes, toilet paper or even a bidet isn't quite enough to be sure you're squeaky clean after an extreme colon blow.

^^ It's not polite to have a bath while just visiting somebody's house; you should wash before leaving home...

Pisseria is a term I've adopted later in life (although I've yet to eat a pizza in one).
