I utterly refute this... and surely it should be 'young Mendy' to you, mate? I am as coordinated as they come... I used to play rugby, football and cricket for the school, held the 4th year long jump record and represented the year in the 100m and 200m sprints

The lady doth protest too much

I always have the impression that meal times at Casa Mendy is always about social time and bonding with his daughter. I'm sure that there is probably only one main meal a day, with smaller meals otherwise. Likewise, a few drinks, but nothing to excess, at the end of the day isn't a major issue. He also seems to be physically active when at home, he's speaks of his daily 60 lap swims (albeit in a small pool), and he's forever got some form of outdoor home project to work on. His vacations, which he shares with us, are littered with treks and hill walks. Couch potato he ain't.

I'm sure that he has a tentative plan for the future, post daughter going to college, which he will take large steps to bring to fruition.
Exactly. These assholes need to quit trying to fat shame the bloke. Pots of herbal tea? Fook right of with that nonsense. Get a few Leo's and rip the scab of a bottle of the gardners ya dong . Herbal tea my ass

Actually, I believe the correct phrase is 'carrying a few extra pounds', not kgs, PAG!

Well, this created quite the discussion.

Yeah, age creeps up. During my 20s, 30s and 40s I was way too busy forging a career to think about fitness, making cups of herbal tea or even putting up shelves for toy cars. Now I'm in my 50s I find the pounds harder to shed... big deal. Since getting back from the UK I lost 5kg in August, a couple in the beginning of September and then fukked my back. Hopefully it'll stay off and I'll lose some more, maybe not, but it's certainly not an all-encompassing part of my life. Maybe I should find the time to take it more seriously... in fact I'm sure I should, but I still wouldn't swap my busy life for the life of many others I see.

I would love the time to take leisurely bike rides or strolls around parks, but sadly I have to work. I do what exercise I can fit in but certainly don't post about it... I find exercising in the heat of Isaan tedious enough without boring others about it and do it personally and without sanctimony. All I would say to some is try living in someone else's shoes before judging... life can throw a curveball, or a 'Jaffa' maybe, when least expected... that can create a very difficult situation to which you have to adapt to. Everything I do right now is well considered and for my daughter's future. That future will, I hope, be away from Thailand and in the West, or at least I will make that opportunity open to her. In the meantime... I work offshore internationally... I have a child in Thailand... it doesn't take a genius to join the dots.

Anyway, I'll try and get this thread back on track, which was basically to take the piss out of meself with the stupid shit I end up doing in Isaan... but first, I had my last rehab session with Nurse Tao yesterday and my back is feeling a lot better and I also now have a back brace that fits (which I haven't bothered to wear yet).

I discovered that Nurse Tao's mum is 56 and her dad is 60, which puts me right in middle of her parent's age range. This explained why Tao annoyingly kept calling me 'Papa', and obviously 26 year-old Tao is way too young for me... well, I am way too old for Tao, anyway. I hate getting old.

Tao had three tricks up her sleeve. She did what she called 'magnetics' which involved sending magnetic pulses through my lower back.

This was pretty nice. She rubbed this transducer around my lower back while chatting about where she likes to eat in Korat (which I must admit, I have memorised).

She also did laser treatment which seemed to involve blasting a laser beam through my lower back muscles. We had to wear goggles for this so no photo for obvious reasons.

My favourite was the ultrasound treatment. Tao first massaged in this wet, gooey stuff... which may be this 'Nuru' gel I've heard about on the internet, and then massaged my back with this ultrasound thingy. I don't usually like massages but this was good and made the whole back injury worth while.

This was the nurse eye view of what was going on and I must admit the length of my lower back hair was quite a surprise, and may be added to ears and nose trimming next time I go to my barber. Happily my rash seemed to have cleared up.

She does have a lovely hand, that tao tao.

Did you say that she's the one that does the ol' prostate exam with that nuru gel by any chance, mine does seem to be acting up.

Hmm so she's used distraction techniques, the first "Treatment" was an ultrasound to establish which vertebrae she needed to work on, then fused three together with a laser and then the "Ultrasound" will be a long lasting analgesic.

Now that your lower vertebrae are fused i would rule out making any movements like downhill skiers do before they leave the start gate and i'd be very tentative on missionary or cowgirl action for at least a month.

Yay , we have got past the short cnut calling Mendy a fat cnut

Mendy should enthrall the pretty nurse with stories about using magnetics and geophysics to locate rocks ?

Or would that be an anomaly ?

Between you and me she has two lovely hands and she'd be welcome to use either one for a prostate exam. Or both for that matter.

Sadly I couldn't remember the Thai for 'enlarged' yesterday so I didn't get that ticked off the list.

Surely 'yai yai' would have sufficed.

Though doubtless she's heard that before.
