@mendy - I have a friend who has a desk job (graphic designer). He has prpgrammed his smart watch to beep every once in a while (every hour, I think) to remind him that he needs to get off his arse and walk around. I guess he's programmed it to do so only during his work hours - not during his rest hours or days. He's able to get 10k steps or more per day.
I know that when you're offshore, you use the gym. But during work hours, you're mostly glued to your desk so it's also good to walk once in a while, even if it's to get water, make tea, etc.

Seems we're all agony aunts/ uncles here.
@misskit - Lol. Made me chuckle.![]()
There's never been a better day than today to change one's life for the better.
Start by giving up the gargantuan desserts and alcohol, finish dinner by brewing up a lovely big pot of herbal tea.
There are several kinds of teas that can benefit sore muscles, including ginger, cinnamon, nettle, green tea and turmeric flavoured teas.
A proven fat burner, ginger tea is the foolproof way to get your body working at burning accumulated fat while you're sleeping. You can even have this first thing in the morning, but this works famously well as a bedtime drink to burn fats as well.
What herbal tea helps with stress? Herbal teas have been a long-established way of bringing calm to daily life. They include ingredients like rooibos, rose petals, lavender, passionflower, and chamomile.
Currently washing down lunch with yesterday evening's ginger, lemongrass, cinnamon, chamomile, lavender and roselle brew.
Brew up a pot.
Then chill the fudge out for the love o' Lulu.
You'll be happier, healthier, and the daughter will be too.

PS We are accepting Christmas gifts.
Hmmm. So, Mendy tells of his back problem, and many jump on the wagon of criticising his lifestyle as if he's terminally obese. He's a big guy who is carrying a few extra kgs, but nothing extraordinary, which he admits he could do more to shed. I always have the impression that meal times at Casa Mendy is always about social time and bonding with his daughter. I'm sure that there is probably only one main meal a day, with smaller meals otherwise. Likewise, a few drinks, but nothing to excess, at the end of the day isn't a major issue. He also seems to be physically active when at home, he's speaks of his daily 60 lap swims (albeit in a small pool), and he's forever got some form of outdoor home project to work on. His vacations, which he shares with us, are littered with treks and hill walks. Couch potato he ain't.
I'm sure that he has a tentative plan for the future, post daughter going to college, which he will take large steps to bring to fruition.
Thanks for that PAG. I feel like Moose. Mendy is an honest and open poster who posts as himself. Some of those very critical commenters can not say the same.
I think in general PAG, Mendy is clearly a very likeable fella and with that, some ( myself included) will chime in to remind him that as we age, this doesn't get any easier to sustain and it does take a relatively direct approach. No sugar coating it here. It all just creeps up on ya. So yeah maybe a comment or two were a bit harsh, but when you put yourself out there on the interwaves, its the risk you take exposing yourself to comments, both good and bad. Nature of the beast.![]()
Poor old Mendy, shares his life with us, and gets a real shellacking.
However, has to be said that I too have had to face the realities that a too sedentary a life is taking its toll, as I too am mainly stuck behind a computer for hours at a time. So, I have recently started a modest exercise routine - its developing as I go. Currently Monday to Friday it is a 30 minute gentle walk after lunch, and each evening 40 to 50 minutes on a stationary bike. Saturday and Sunday its trips to a pool for lengths for an hour and a half. Honestly forgot how much fun swimming is.
I realize that compared to some mine is very very modest, but I hope I will slowly increase duration and intensity, but for now the main concern is in sticking to the routine, and not to get in the habit of skipping something if I am tired.
Indeed, and sometimes the aging process hits like a hammer rather than a creep. I've got problems with osteoarthritis, and really should have a hip replacement, which I'm loathe to do at my age given the length of rehabilitation afterwards. I manage it through medication, though not strictly daily, only when I really need it. Osteoporosis is an issue as well, and I frequently get a fracture in one of the lower vertebrae and can be painful and has no cure. Both the hip and back issue can be mitigated by weight control, as gaining weight is guaranteed to bring on the pain. Hence my regular diets, which is also a pain as some will have noticed that I enjoy my food also.
Good job you have an accomplished full time chef PAG![]()
I hope Tao's magic worked for ya Mendy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why not buy a monitor/keyboard riser for you desk when you're onboard so you can work while standing? The effort of maintaining your balance while typing should be a good workout in itself.
I hope everything is ok and if there's anything I can do to help, let me know.
