We are, medium rare for steak is outstanding. In many circles its actually savage to consider destroying a nice cut of beef by cooking it too long.

Six days later and the first English runner bean has germinated.

Even one of our big tortoises came out and took a snooze. If you haven't seen one nap, now you have. They sprawl out and enjoy the sun

^ Nice. We've had blue skies and a nice breeze in Korat today. It's the best time of year in Isaan, for sure.

The soil is new potting compost so should be OK. New shoots are usually a bit yellowish before they start producing chlorophyll and the photosynthesis starts up.

After 8 days we have 8 germinated bean plants, which out of 48 is one sixth according to my maths - a bit disappointing to be honest. It's strange that most of the seedlings are in a small cluster at one end of one seed tray. I'm sure there must be a reason but I'll be buggered if I can think what it could be.

Hopefully a lot more will come up in the coming days and I'll transplant them into the veggie bed next weekend.

Birds love sprouts and mice love seeds. Maybe that’s where the rest have gone.

Digging around might reveal old ungerminated or rotted seeds.
If there’s no seeds then the alien space bats have stolen them.
But it’s probably mice. The little sods can jump down into planter boxes like kangaroos.

I don't think it's mice because surely there would be some evidence of them digging in the seed box? Also, six dogs tend to keep our mice at bay.

I'm wondering if it's because one end of the seed boxes seem to get most of the sun so I turned the boxes around this morning to see what happens. You can see that all the seedlings were pointed towards the sun so maybe they will have re-align themselves now. Ten have germinated but I'm hoping for at least forty. I'll have a dig around at the weekend when I start transplanting as I'm sure some have rotted in the soil.

As for the wife's plants Chitty, I have no idea and I know nothing about this kind of thing. Also she claims she wants to make some tea and not smoke it. Maybe she's started drinking the tea already as she cooked a meal last night... very unusual behaviour indeed.

After 11 days only 13 beans (out of 48) have germinated, which is pretty rubbish. Then again, Jack only needed 1.

It's still a mystery to me why a cluster of beans at one end of one seed tray germinated but I'm trying not to dwell on it.

I'll transplant the big ones tonight once the daughter gets back from school. She'll hate it of course and will doubtless claim that she's organised an important game of Roblox but she has to learn!

I have never had much success with beans, the slugs and snails just love a bean sprout. It looks like a couple of yours have been nibbled.

In another tread Mendip was wondering why the wife was cooking so much lately.

Anyway, last night we transplanted the 10 biggest bean seedlings. Well, who am I kidding... 'I' transplanted the seedlings while the daughter looked bored and took a few photos.

First up, to select a couple of my patented pyramid metal bean trellises.



And then down to work. And yes Reg... yet again you can see Maya watching Anna. They occupy similar places in the pack... Maya is definitely dominant but she seems to hold a grudge against Anna and constantly makes her feel uncomfortable.



Action shot... carefully keeping the root ball intact.

Each pyramid takes five seedlings.

I was hoping to fill the entire row but the 10 decent seedlings only took up a bit of one end. I may get another few seedlings from the seed boxes over the next few days with any luck. Stupidly I planted them at the opposite end of the veggie bed to the hose and we have no nozzle.



All done. My next plan is to plant a load of Thai long bean seeds in seed boxes to fill the rest of the row. It'll be interesting to make a direct comparison of the English and Thai beans. Well, interesting for Isaan, anyway.

Well with the weather temp and humidity nice, this time of year I do my annual power wash and clean up to keep the black mold away. Plus my wife likes it as La Krathong is coming and its a positive way to start a holiday as she says.



First was a power wash and scrub of the car park area. It gets pretty dirty with wind and rain.



Second was a full wash up stairs from the main doors and down the stairs and walk way out to the drive way

Bloody hell Mr. Tidy I really don't think you would know what dirty is/was. However if you want to know and need some exercise bring yourself and your washer down here and do my "fukkin filthy" side walks.
