And yeah, you'd give them a motorboat if you could too

Took my morning walk around the compound with the dogs. Wanted to clarify the dates on the tree as I was general off the top of my head earlier

This tree is 5 years 7 months. It was producing a few last season

This one 6.5 years ( We just took all the coconuts off )

This one is 1 yr 4 months

    A couple of notes on our planting technics;

We keep 2 drums of soaking ground coconut husks around. We mix this with dirt from my mulch pile and cow shit and some fertilizer and let sit a few days before use.

Also when I plant trees here I do like I was taught in the states, the hole should be at least 2 to 2.5 times larger than the root ball and the same deep. Here for whatever reason the dig the hole the exact size of the root ball and drop it in and many die as the roots have no loose well aerated dirt to grow. It has taken me 5 years to convince my wife and FIL and this is why I plant my own trees except the big mature ones I brought in. However I made them dig a huge hole to my specs and I added my own dirt plus I make them cut that black mesh crap off.

Yup pretty much what we do, a winning formula!

What is the name of that very dark plant you just bought?

    The mint looks amazing.

Mint tends to struggle in this climate, and rot.

It's called an Indian Rubber Tree

Mint isn't easy to grow here. They tend to do well in small pots and plenty of drainage, typically hanging pots work best. I have tried to grow Rosemary here with limited success.

A few pics of my very modest mooban garden. Most people build kitchens here but I thought a green space would be better!

Pretty much, we wash down the whole deck and water the plants everyday but we add old coconut chips to the soil which absorb water and then slowly release it. They also prevent against weeds.

Well as I was sitting over at my pool bar watching the Golden State Warriors play, I had this little bug crawl up on my arm. I almost swatted it when I noticed it was a baby praying mantis. I went over to the egg sack I had been watching and sure enough...18 days later...

    Out they emerge

Hundreds of the little guys every where. Best they move now during day as the jingjoks stay out of the sun.

Right now it appears that caterpillars are everywhere. I am having to watch my plants closely as they can ravage one fast as they are not small. some are incredibly stealthy to hide

This guy lines itself up on the main plant stock to look like part of the plant. easy to look right past it

After I pulled it off the plant. I do not kill them, I feed them to the birds. I am not sure what species moth or butterfly this will become.

I don't know about the carb content, however the white coconut flesh is packed with cholesterol, so anybody watching their levels should give coconuts a swerve.
That said, the coconut water is fine and has a very good rehydrating effect, much better than water. (Or so I was told years ago. I suppose Mr. Google would know more.)

That seems to be true of most of the things I eat here, some being less mild than others.

Tid bit of info FWWIW, During the many wars in SE Asia, They used to use coconuts for IVs. Interestingly they are sterile or shall I say bacteria free. The coconut water is extremely good for rehydration.

Today was a cool 14c in AM but quickly got to 34c by 1:30pm. With the sun staying in the pool area a bit longer up until 2pm, I decided to move the potted plants and the pool furniture to make it more comfy.

I also planted and potted the cuttings my uncle gave to me and plants to bring some color to the pool bar area. It was a nice morning watching the NFL while working around the pool area. Its about time to add water to the Mastercool fan. Inferno season is coming....

Nothing in there but 100% coconut water. Delicious and refreshing, we get through 3 or 4 of these a week.
We found a couple of good ones in the Asian grocery store.

There is some good news though. The flyers in.my letterbox today told me that Aldi are selling a 12 pack of Leo for $15. That's actually a good deal. Beers expensive here.

I like the way you think mate. Forget the professor turning a coconut into a radio, I'd be far more interested in it somehow involving Mary Anne and a cream pie.

So my Lab and Retriever started following me around with a their ball. "Come on man, toss the ball". I threw it for nearly 45 minutes. The Lab Annie has jaws like a shark and never gives up the ball so I have to rip it out of her mouth. To cool off they run to the "Pond" as I call it to cool off....

Yes. I had to teach them the difference between Pool and Pond. So pond worked. They love it. It's easy. Just pour it out once a week and refill. Simple. Easy and they stay out of the main pool.
