An Hawaiian pizza is not actually an Hawaiian pizza if it doesn't have pineapple on it.
Get her to ask for a ham and cheese pizza instead that way she might get more ham.
Or get her to ask for a margherita with ham but if she doesn't like basil tell her to tell "mai mi krapow".

Clinton plaza was conceived in the midst of a land grab and disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

    You're really reaching there.

^ Yeah well... this is a family thread!

My daughter could sleep for Thailand (I wonder where she inherited that from...) and let's face it, there's a lot of competition. But while I was waiting for her to wake up I planned the day. I wanted to make sure of a trip on the MRT so we could at least cross off a train trip on our 'Train trip to Bangkok', but there was also Bogon's Red Lion for breakfast. And Luigi's Sealife at the Siam Paragon was also on the list. I like making schedules and a quick look at the MRT map helped in the planning...

So easy... first the 'two' minute walk to the Red Lion, then a taxi to Siam Paragon for Sealife, then the MRT back to Asok. I was secretly pleased about not having to go straight in with the MRT trip first thing... I just fuk'n hate these kind of things... mainly because I haven't got a clue what to do and find it embarrassing. My daughter still thinks I'm invincible and I don't want to look like a right twat in front of her. But the map made it look easy enough... four stations along on the same line. That should be easy enough to get home.

So... we eventually leave the hotel for this so called 'two minute' walk to the Red Lion on Suk 13, which turned out to be at least ten minutes. No real problem other than it cost me 100 Baht... the daughter's getting a bit sick of me saying things like, 'I just want to pick up some cider... it's only 5 minutes away', etc etc, and she's started timing the walks on her new watch and charging me for excess minutes. Anyway we find The Red Lion... it's part or the Trendy Building where I renewed the daughter's UK passport last year.

An open front... a good start and one reason I often have my breakfast at Fitzgeralds (Hanrahans) on Soi 4.

We order breakfast and wait... and wait... and eventually the daughter's turns up. Another wait... and then along comes mine.

The daughter's has been half eaten by this time.

To be honest it didn't look great, but good enough and I start eating... but something was nagging at me... and then it clicked. They'd forgotten me bladdy sausage! I alert the girl and my sausage came along just as I was finishing the rest. My daughter had no egg, but that was her fault cos she'd chosen a 'build yourself' breakfast and forgotten to tick the 'egg' box. No worries... she had one of mine.

The black pudding was extra and I had no hash brown... and it was those horrible Ayam baked beans. Sorry Bogon, but I would say the 20 minute walk to the Robin Hood is worth every step for their breakfast.

Oh.. but at least The Red Lion egg yokes were soft!

I didn't even have a pint of cider... it was Stowford Press on draught and nothing wrong with that... but the place looked so quiet and I've had problems before after drinking rarely drunk draught in a quiet pub in the tropics.

    So, on to Siam Paragon...

It's astounding at just how perplexing managing a simple order is for them.

I think it was at OMC of all places, waitress doesn't write down the orders (seems to be a face thing, like writing them down indicates that they're stoopid and can't remember things). Breakie arrives, no hashbrown. Point this out. One single, lonesome, hash brown arrives on an other wise derelict plate after everyone has finished eating.

    True story.

If going to Ocean World, can make a day of it, with OW in the morning (SP Basement), lunch, then Kidzania (SP top floor). Check out the supercars on the 4th level (I think), for when you get back from the next shift on the rigs.

No wonder Luigi has been missing from the lately. He's been managing his restaurant!

This Edmond guy seems to know a lot about BKK and kid-friendly attractions, though. I wonder if he knows Minty, a very god-fearing man.

@mendip - keep the pics & stories coming!

^^^ Already been to Ocean World and back at the hotel... but can easily revisit for more stuff tomorrow. We tend to try an activity in the morning, then veg out in the afternoon. Will hopefully get the pool to ourselves again in an hour or so.

As for my next work trip... I should be heading off in about 10 days to Norway but already Covid may throw a spanner in the works... I have to get my daughter back home, then head back down to Bangkok a few days later for a flight, but...

Three suspected Covid-19 cases in Nakhon Ratchasima

Three suspected Covid-19 cases in Nakhon Ratchasima

This morning there were calls for anyone who had visited Rayong or Bangkok to report to the public health people on returning to Nakhon Ratchasima and self isolate for 14 days... thankfully this has since been relaxed as the three suspected cases have tested negative... but it shows how fluid this situation still is. I'm very tempted to return to Bangkok sooner rather than later next week to avoid getting caught u in any problems... I really don;t want to lose this work. Still, maybe Headworx could recommend me some places to visit?

Anyway, a few pics from Sea Life... I love this place.

    Crabs

    Moray eels

    Baby turtles

Penguins... I was particularly pleased with this above and under water shot!

    And of course, sharks...

And a free green if anyone can identify who my daughter bumped into at the end?

Afterwards we left Siam Paragon and I was mentally prepared to get on the MRT train back to Asok with the daughter.

I looked left, at the flights of steps, beyond which I knew were hordes of people all knowing what they were doing, automatic ticket machines, endless different platforms and of course trains that also go in the wrong direction... I looked right to this...

A 61 Baht taxi ride got me back to Terminal 21 in ten minutes!

Oh... much to my daughter's delight we found a Dunkin Donuts... and what's this to the left? The legendary Pala no less!

TC... shall I say you recommend the Hawaiian pizza, or would you prefer I take ootai's advice and order a Margherite with ham and bacon but no basil?

I hope they do cannelloni... my all time favourite Italian food.

And for any locals around here... where is the closest place to T21 I can pick up a few tins of cider? That 20 minute walk up to Villa Market seems to be getting longer and longer!

Seems to be a common activity, hanging out in an egg.

    (from an above thread)

Strange, isn't it. Kids can do it no problem, but you take a 20 minute rest in there and everyone be looking at you funny.

...my advice for both you and daughter: have the bruschetta for an appetizer or split the tuna/avocado starter. As you probably noted, the pre-sliced pizzas are in plain sight in the front window...let daughter select the one (s) she wants. I highly recommend the puttanesca on linguine for the main (be sure to ask for Parmesan and chili oil)...I don't remember if cannelloni is on the menu, but it's a bit too heavy for me anyway. You might also try the saltimboca or lemon sea bass (if they have it)...and do dip the fresh bread (free!) into a little olive oil and balsamic while sipping your Montepulciano red...despite Covid, their clientele is loyal and enthusiastic...we ate there last weekend for lunch and the place was rocking...

    My bad.

It has just opened, so I thought standards would stay high for the first month.

If any more Bogon Tips come, I promise they will be golden.

^ No worries... do you have a Bogon tip about the closest cider to T21? It looks like it's about to piss it down and I'm on my last tin of Black Rat...

Served in a gravy boat, no less. What a bunch of dilberts. "Listen up, SOmbat, you useless fuckwit, you simply use the sausage as a breakwater between the beans and the egg, there's no need to festoon my plate with an industrial sized hunk of crockery." Sombat needs learning.

If I'd have taken 20 minutes rest in that egg I'd never get out again... still be stuck there now.

We headed out for a meal tonight and here is our intended venue... Tomcat's Pala. It was heaving when we walked past at lunchtime and still busy tonight... the food must be great.

After much decision making we finally went for...

Yep... the Dunkin Donuts next door. Sorry TC... Pala does look great and I'm sure the food is superb, but I just couldn't face taking a hyperactive nine year-old into such a busy restaurant... I don't think either of us would have enjoyed it. I will probably be returning to Bangkok on my own next week for a few days and it is definitely on my list for then.

I love my daughter dearly, but it is bloody hard work entertaining a nine year-old on me own in Bangkok for a few days... I don't really get a break. Just for example... this afternoon we went to the hotel pool and had it to ourselves apart from this really fit looking Asian girl who was sunbathing topless... but lying on her front. I guess not Thai as she was in the sun... maybe Chinese... or maybe a European or Aussie Asian? Anyway, all I wanted to do was pretend to watch me phone but keep an eye on her and try and catch that moment when she would eventually sit up... and maybe get a sneaky glimpse before she got the bikini top back on. But no... me lovely daughter kept hassling me for a swim and I missed it all. These are the times when it would be good to have the wife to help out.

But anyway, after turning down the busy Pala and picking up the donuts, we continued on, planning on returning to the empty Luigi's again. Before that however I found the empty Little Italy. This was just what I needed... an empty restaurant where the girls would entertain me daughter while I could sup a beer and stare out the window watching he world pass by. It ticked all the boxes! There was even football on the tv to boot.

A couple of excellent pizzas later... (and a free Limoncello!)

    And job done.

It must be a testament to the quality of Pala's food that they have been busy all day, whereas both of the other Italian restaurants I've been to in the last couple of days have been deserted. Next time.

For now... a bottle of Wolf Blaas Eaglehawk red from the Familymart while I veg out and wonder what to do tomorrow... maybe Kidzania back at the Paragon...?

    Great thread Mendip,cheers for sharing.

Take a rowing boat out on Lumpini park and try to catch monitor lizards.

I bet the Grand Palace and Wat Arun are quite if they're open. The boat ride between the two is fun for the littleun.

Plus there's plenty of eye candy for dad in that neck of the woods.

See how many different types of transport you can travel on in a day, ie tuk tuk, train, boat etc
