With my daughter's never ending quest to try every Hawaiian pizza in Thailand, it had to be an Italian restaurant tonight.

We came across this place which looked interesting...

Luigi was in fact a lovely guy who used to be a petrochemical engineer in a previous life before turning his hand to cooking. A Hawaiian pizza for the littlun, ordered before the menu came, but as I looked at the menu something caught my eye...

Bladdy hell... this Nonna gets about! Rumours could start this way. It had to be the lasagne just to see if she's as good as TC makes out.

And yes she was. Luigi and Nonna came up with the goods! Two happy punters... and in fact we were the only two customers. Covid must be hitting Bangkok business hard.

So the end of a 'busy' day and back to the hotel. The wife didn't fancy coming (mainly because she didn't fancy going on a train... ha ha!), and whereas it's great to spend a few days alone with my daughter, it's hard work as well.

I gave the wife a quick call from the hotel room, and she was complaining that Coco and Yogi kept her awake all last night, howling across the gate to each other. It seems that Coco's season is reaching climax...

Oh well, tough... I didn't hear 'em!

And one last pic of Soi Cowboy from my hotel room... another time maybe...

Something tells me that Afterskool won't be suitable for my nine year-old daughter...?

    But noted anyway!

I will have to check out where Pala is... so long as they do Hawaiian pizzas it's a definite possibility!

In fact I now have a plan for tomorrow... breakfast at Bogon's Red Lion, a trip to Sea Life at the Paragon and dinner at Pala!

I worry I'm spoiling the daughter!

I used to take the Friday evening train from Chumphon to BKK. Arrive early in the morning. Walk up Khao San Road past the ladyboys and hookers. And then take the sleeper train back on Sunday night. Quite often having to go straight to work because it was so late.
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

Great pics, Mendip! That food looks delicious and your daughter is so cute! My preferred way of travel is train over plane that is why I tried the train in Thailand. I also took the slower train along the coast in Vietnam.. that is also worth a go if you ever have a chance. It is too bad that so many businesses have probably gone under and probably not many tourists around either. Taking the train in China and South Korea is fun as it is the bullet trains that go over 300kms/hr. Try it sometime!

Darn shame, I would have waited for the trains. I've caught them dozens of times in Thailand (and other places) as you say, the train is the point.

The thing is... 3 hours is an awful long time to spend at a train station with a nine year-old. There is absolutely nothing to do in Korat... station, and that 3 hour delay could easily have escalated. They said due to an accident... I'd imagine due to a motorbike or pick-up trying to beat the barriers at a crossing but getting it wrong. That's common place.

But anyway... I'm thinking if trying the MRT today. I haven't been on anything like that since a tube in London about 30 years ago so it'll be quite a big event for both of us! I hate stuff like this.

^ To be fair she does always ask for a Hawaiian with 'mai mee sappalot'!

I wish she'd eat pineapple... aberration or not it's hard enough to get fruit and veg into her as it is!

Oh indeed, but surely the real income is dropping compared to alternatives for the land use and then said protection will evaporate.

Not so sure, individually these places will move on, but I think they will become more dispersed. A wholesale transmigration of Soi Cowboy is not so likely.

A friend of mine bought two lots there and said the same thing (Tony's & Joe's bars) that was in 1988!
With the current "environment" I can't see many new projects being started and look to see a lot of ongoing projects to shut down, commercial REIT may well become a thing of the past?

People have been saying that about Patpong and Soi Cowboy for over 30 years.

Maybe COVID will finally kill them off...but it's rich terrain for the cops.
