In case anyone was wondering, this is what Korat's city wall looked like in 1880... the same design as the section Coco so ably demonstrated.



A lot has changed in the intervening 140 years and most of the wall seems to have been pulled down, with the foundations left as a path alongside the moat. I don't think the food has changed much though.

I'd be very interested to know what the Thai script says...


I've found a few old pics of Korat in a directory on my laptop and can't remember where I got them from. There's a good chance I copied them from HuangLao's wonderful thread many years ago, before I joined TeakDoor. If that is the case, thanks Jeff.

As part of Coco's history tour she was keen to re-enact another old pic from 1910. This was our best estimate (after trudging around Korat for three hours and Coco won't walk on the lead yet so I had to carry her).

Right, there are City gates on only the North and South sides of the wall....

Mate... there are city gates on all city walls, covering the four points of the compass. One has been dealt with earlier in this thread so I expect you to get this in no more than three attempts!

And another old 1910 image from a different angle of the North Gate, or possibly the South Gate, or maybe the East Gate or the West Gate... it's very hard to tell after 110 years.

One thing for certain... it's one of the gates. Maybe that's my Granny-in-law doing her washing?

Coco wanted a 'Selfie' to remember our day out by.

For the purists out there, this selfie pic has been flipped, so it's exactly as you see it.

For those relying on guesswork or the process of elimination... Korat has four city gates, two gates have been previously covered, two not so.

I would think even our overseas competitors could get this... in maybe two attempts?
