^^ The effort is much appreciated Lom!

I've got a really good one planned today... will have to take Coco on the school pickup run!

To be honest I think the Korat Tourist Board should give me a job.

I spent the weekend swimming and cooking cakes with me daughter! Enjoyable as that is, ya can't beat a couple of days anonymous bar crawling along Sukhumvit once in a while! I can feel a Bangkok trip coming on once the daughter's finished school next week.

I know plenty of seedy places in Korat... but the wife's family is huge and chances are I'd get spotted.

Many years ago a few of us went for a round of golf down towards Khao Yai, but it started tipping it down so we came back to Korat early. I was sitting having a relaxing pint when the wife called asking why I was back so early. A niece or some other spy had seen me sitting outside the bar and mentioned it to the missus!

We were out this morning when Coco noticed a small temple with an entrance to the right. She wanted to check it out...

The entrance was fenced off, but the gate was open...

She's still not walking on the lead very well, so I carried her in...

And behind the fence was a vacant lot of land...

Where is this lot of land, and why is it vacant in the heart of Korat? Two greens on offer, one for each question.

Location No. 28... Where is Coco?

(Nev... you will probably know immediately, so let's give the amateurs a chance for a while... You could always send a private answer via a repo comment?)

^ More awful than an Aldi.

    Tragic is a better word.

What if I was to say there are no plans to build anything here...

Yes... significantly worse and obviously not very well known about.

This was nothing at all to do with the Terminal 21 tragedy and happened before Terminal 21 even existed (and I'm talking about the Sukhumvit branch).

    ^ Nev knows... PM received!

Green owed for Nev... but two more still on offer. I hope everyone's keeping count, I can't seem to dish these greens out fast enough.

    ^ A bridesmaid again
They did try putting a market there...

Royal Plaza Hotel collapsed at 10.12am on Friday, 13th August, 1993. It killed 137 people and injured more than 200 others, many of whom lost limbs.

Forty-seven of the dead were teachers and executives from the General Education Department who were attending a seminar. Others included both Thai and foreign visitors and hotel staff.

The collapse was blamed on a substandard structural addition to the building, which doubled the number of floors of the hotel from three to six. The Supreme Court sentenced the engineer responsible for the additional construction to life imprisonment.

The location of the hotel on Jomsurang Road remains empty. Operators tried to turn it to a market but the business failed.

^ Yes... very well done Lom.

Despite being a prime plot of land, Thai superstition has ensured that it's remained undeveloped for the last 27 years. Mind you, when you consider the date of the Royal Plaza Hotel collapse it does make you think.

I think the Thai/Chinese Temple at the entrance to the plot of land may have been built to commemorate the tragedy, however it seems very poorly known about in Korat in the present day. I vaguely remember it from the news in 1993... little did I know that I'd be living here 27 years on.

Here is a pic from the day after the tragedy.

And as Lom correctly mentions... 158 Jomsurangyard Road.

And just so you buggers can see the risks I take to bring you this thread...

Another little known fact about this location is that almost directly opposite that small temple, directly behind my photographer daughter's back, is a traditional Thai massage place where a sister-in-law works. No extras on offer there... not that I'd want anything... she's a right old boot!

Oh... and well done Lom, two greens added to my spreadsheet for a prefect answer! Well done Nev, leading the spreadsheet... and bad luck Dill!

Can't leave it there... time to lighten the mood a little...

Coco has developed a terrible slice and wants to sort it out. She joked that she'd be OK on a dog-leg right (), but sadly for her most the fairways are straight, narrow and surrounded by jungle either side.

Where did Coco try to improve her driving? Location No. 29... Where is Coco?

Ahh so it's a golf course, not a driving range.

That Suranaree looks alright. Is there horse racing there too?

^ Nah... the bit about the fairways was just a weak attempt at humour...

The pic is indeed of the Aek Sima driving range, the only one in Korat that I know about.

    The bride at last!

Very well done Mr Dill, a green added to my spreadsheet!
