If you are going to apply for a "retirement Visa" then the marriage certificate is not needed but if you decide to go for the "married to a Thai" visa then you will need it.

Once you get the marriage certifcate translated you will need to get it "certified" by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs" in Bangkok.
Then you would need to go to your local Amphur and register your marriage there.
Once it is registered you will then be able to obtain a TM22 form which Immigration will need as one of the documents presented when applying for the "Married Visa".

It may sound complicated and a lot of work but once you have done it for the first application it is quite simple every year after that.

You didn't say where you will be applying i.e. which Immigration Office you will be using. This is important as someone who uses the same office might respond and tell you exactly what they require.

I believe as there are many more documents required other than just the marriage certificate you will need to be multi tasking and start doing/collecting them all as early as possible.

    I gota tell ya shitstains,

If I was retiring today there would be no way I would come to this shithouse.

The reason for that is mainly the all mighty powerful Baht and especially the scam Health Insurance requirement.

Health Insurance is a must but not if you must buy into a Thai Health Insurance policy.

They are expensive and the pay out is fuked compared to an International Policy.

The TM 30 and 90 day reports are fook all but those other 2 big issues are the kicker.

You would need to be retarded and a millionaire to consider retiring here.

Just come on a tourist visa, have a great old knees up and keep shit symple .

    Easy peasy fukos.

states quite clearly that a "foreign" insurer's policy is acceptable. To obtain an Non-Immigrant Category “O-A”:

    8.0

"Effective from 31 October 2019 , the applicant must be medically insured for the entire period of stay in Thailand with the following coverage:

    – Outpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 40,000 THB, and

    – Inpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 400,000 THB"

8.1. Health insurance policy document issued by a Thai or foreign insurance company, stating that the applicant is medically insured for the period and with coverage as mentioned above:

    (a) In case of a foreign insurance company, the applicant must submit the original insurance policy document with 2 copies;

    (b) In case of a Thai insurance company, the applicant must submit 2 copies of the insurance policy document or, if available, the original insurance policy document with 2 copies. A list of Thai insurance companies participating in the scheme can be found here: http://longstay.tgia.org

Yes but ya not looking at the big picture are ya . ?

You can use a foreign policy when you apply for your first O-A in your home cuntry.

Once that expires and you wanna extend within Thailand you must use the retarded Thai bullshit policy.

That's how it rolls in it.

Those staying full time may just have to adapt to the expensive new insurance requirements and be prepared for any new requirements the military government decide to introduce in order to protect thailand from retired falangs taking advantage of the natural generosity and unparalleled humanity of the thai healthcare system.

Victims of road traffic accidents do not get free treatment at government hospitals so there should be no 'burden'. One has to have the Por Ror Bor insurance to cover the government hospital bill.

If the OP should be given any advice, it should be to ensure that he does not burn the bridges back to his homeland when retiring to thailand.
The requirements of the thais, and the currency exchange rates can have a huge effect on expats here. Always keep options open and have a plan B.

Trouble is there are a shit load of fukers who have done that and now find themselves up shit creek in a rapidly sinking boat and way to far away from the shore to make the swim to safety.

Either that or an outside chance our guardian muppets will realise they've fcuked up something rotten, and in six months will quietly restore some semblance of sanity.

Otherwise Thais go back to sitting on the floor and eating with their fingers!

Along those lines its quite feasible the "mandatory insurance" topic may slowly fade into the sunset, vague memory - although remaining in place for the OX and OA visas. Same as the hubbub over TM30, TM28 and 90 Day Reports.

They won't rescind the regulatory requirement. They may choose to ignore the requirement. Similar situation when they decided to revive enforcement of the year 1979 TM30 Report requirement, then realized the reason it had fallen into disuse in the first place "unenforceable".

Re: the PCEC notice I posted earlier for Sunday 5th at Holiday Inn; the speaker had to reschedule, his replacement will do "Understanding Thailand and why it has changed so much so quickly. Part 2"

I'm sure it'll be interesting, speakers generally are, but I will wait for the visa guy, just about given up trying to understand Thailand.

^The visa guy is the same guy I've used for many years with 100% success. Fuck anything resembling hoops or hassles, he gets whatever needs to be done with ease but I don't imagine he'd be discussing how in public .

Just go see him in his office, tell him what you need, and he'll give you your options (and a quote, obviously). His office re-opens on Monday.

I think that most sane fukos would agree that mandatory Health Insurance aint a bad idea.

The very bad idea is forcing Ex-pats to take on board Thai Heath Insurance which at the very best is a steaming bucket of shit and worthless.

    That's the fookin issue.

Fookin monkeys really think of some insane retarded shit eh.

The 400,000 Bht requirement is simply fook all and most Ex-pats who have a few buks consider that piss money.

A nice dose of Cancer will see you 2 million BHT down the fookin river.
