I would think they your continued weight will press the timber to spread and thus make the gaps smaller



you could also just use that bar top piece on the foot bit and go and find yourself a nice piece of teak for the bartop

A lot of work has gone into this so far and I don't want to skimp at the end... but to buy more wood just to add one more plank to reduce a 10mm gap seems a bit OTT. And also, one more plank would make it difficult to have any gaps... to accommodate a further 14.6cm plank would mean reducing the gaps to next to nothing... I've just been unlucky the way it's worked out.

It's all ready to go tomorrow... each plank was personally inspected to choose the best side for the top, before drilling and countersinking. Usually this involved getting any nasty splits or rough patches underneath, but also many planks were a bit buckled laterally and I need to get the convex face pointing upwards to avoid water retention.

This buckling may well be the cause of the reduced plank width, and I can't help feeling the timber merchant used the opportunity of an inexperienced 'farang' to get rid of some rubbish.

If you really are concerned about a one cm gap being too large then what you could do is use the 21st plank that you set aside for the "bar".
You could get some more wood at your leisure and paint it up and fit it to the resting beam.

Also if you really don't want to buy another piece of wood pay me a visit and I am sure we can find what you need here.

Best thing is to visit a commercial Thai jetty and build as the Thais do. Otherwise, your daughters classmates fathers will want to see the talk of the school "falang jetty".

I was going to have a day off... the daughter's back to home schooling and I fancied taking it easy indoors and maybe put some lunch together.

But... the wife's a bit off today so I figure I may as well get out the house and do something useful. I got pissed up on Ja Dong last night and decided to wake Mrs Mendip up late on and tell her that I'd cleaned up my feet. Things didn't go quite as I anticipated and I won't be doing that again. Her mood worsened this morning when she saw that I'd been lying anyway and my feet are still spattered in Chaindrite and primer. That Ja Dong is evil stuff.

Anyway, I removed the step shuttering while having my morning coffee and it looks pretty damn good, even if I say so meself.



There will be a small step down from the step to the jetty wood but I'll just pretend that was in the design. I'm hoping that the gap between concrete and jetty frame will help stop the frame being subjected to prolonged moisture.



It's a beautiful morning in Korat today... just the weather to lay a few paving slabs in cement. I sat with Maya a while to look at the jetty and watch the fish rise.



It's evidently also a nice morning for a swim... Maya can't control herself and spends hours swimming after the rising fish.



Hopefully by lunchtime the only job left will be to install the jetty wood.



I surely hope that Chaindrite is good stuff. I also had a bit of a tidy up while having my coffee and turned this piece of wood over... it'd only been lying on the grass for a few days.

If I lay any wood on the ground, it will be assaulted by Termites in a day just like your Pics Mendy. This is why I keep our property clean of any wood scrap and keep nothing near the main house. I have to watch my FIL because he keeps old wood by the shop along with Cardboard (I have no idea why) and termites move in fast. I have showed him numerous times and then have to toss the wood out. They love wet wood as it is easy to eat.

Speaking of that, I absolutely will not allow New tree or plant support stands to be made of those wood stakes you see Thai folks use. Not only does it draw in termites but they climb up them and eventually attack the tree. I made up metal stakes and tie up the tree with garden hose.

I found some inexpensive stakes in three different lengths at the DIY shop at our local Tesco. I think they are plastic-coated metal core. Inevitably, the gf is asking why on earth I would spend those when we have so much wood about.
