What I find just as common here is half-Thais that grew up in the West, never got a Thai ID/passport etc, and end up moving here in their 30's, and have to try get stuff sorted to live here without visas, workpermits, to work in any profession or easily setup their business, being able to easily own land, get mortgages, business loans etc etc.

Perhaps Mendo can take over Thai ID card renewal duties too.

^ On reflection, you can renew Thai ID cards at Central Plaza in Korat.

    Bollocks to that.

The fish in the pond are becoming increasingly hard to catch on rod and line but I've always been a sportsman and refuse to start netting them.

In fact the only decent fish I've caught in the past couple of weeks have been a nice pla siwai...

And last night a nice pla duuk of over a kilo.

Both could have made a nice lunch... well apart from the pla siwai as they taste awful.

But both went back to fight another day.

I've found that as I get older I'm becoming increasingly reluctant to kill things. I've long since stopped killing anything at all sentient but knocking a fish on the head used to be no problem. Now I think about that, also.

LOL, joking, kidding....I guess that means your wife should be worried?

So you'll go buy meat from someone that's killed the animal but can't do it yourself? Are you becoming Buddhist?

^ The wife is safe enough Topper... although any more pig's intestine soup could change that.

I'm certainly not becoming Buddhist from what I've seen of it around here... it seems pretty brutal... pray and give a Monk alms and then beat a dog to death with a stick. That's not for me.

I don't think I'm alone in eating meat but not wanting to kill animals and I'm well aware of the paradox. I won't be turning Bhuddist but I can see myself turning pescatarian at some point, probably a bit eggatarian as well.

Calm down, try to even imagine how life would be without things like bacon, pork chops, steak, and roast lamb.

I think the only meals he puts up with meat are sloppy versions of Shepard’s pies, spaghetti bol, tins of steak and kidney pies, and the occasional bangers and mash.

    ^ I totally refute that.

I have regularly put up great examples of all those meals HW mentioned (apart from steaks) and many home made pies, lamb stews, roast chickens, you name it.

I eat one Fray Bentos tinned steak and kidney pie...

It's like McTavish the dry stone wall builder who shagged that one sheep all over again. We all know what he was remembered for...

Mendoza I thought long and hard about what you posted while out shopping today and wondered if I should ease up on eating dead animals too, you really hit a nerve there.

^ Thanks for the thought HW, much appreciated.

I do think about this a lot, although won't go on about it seeing as I am a meat eater. The thing is... I care passionately about animal welfare and spend a lot of time and money trying to save these poor dogs around here... and yet I eat meat. There is an obvious paradox that lingers in the back of my mind.

I spend a lot of time listening to the radio at the moment and recently there was a very interesting 'book of the week' reviewed on BBC Radio 4... so interesting in fact that I ordered it from Asia Books. In some ways I wish I hadn't.

I'll not preach - how can I - but this is proving to be a very thought provoking read. Give it a try if you can pry yourself away from the cricket.

But anyway, I'll try and catch myself a nice pla nin tonight and see if I can do what's required.

We should encourage veggies, go for it Mendip. Don't be too hard on yourself when your pea protein and pea protein pies don't have your mouth watering but at least you'll know your sacrifice is allowing me to eat just that little bit more steak and chops. Top man

    It was nothing, really.

If for whatever reasons you need to feel less guilty about eating meat, remind yourself that very likely 100% of the animals that it came from would have never existed in the first place if we didn't eat meat. You can't be comparing farm animals bred and raised solely for human consumption with the Dogs you've got a soft spot for.

Come on Mendy. You aren't eating dogs. Why is OK to kill a fish to eat. If it's animals you are concerned about then only option is to become a full on Vegen. But I know a few of those folks and lemme tell ya, they look sickly in color, have no energy and are a full on pain in the ass to go anywhere with due to constant Whining about available food or special menu's.

Suck it up and enjoy a fat pork chop, a nice steak or one of those animal gut pies you make. Life's to short

See, this is why I didn't want to mention anything. I think about a lot of shit these days as I get old in Korat but maybe I should hold my own council?

But I do have one thing to say... kidneys aren't guts, they are organs.

Anyway, I didn't catch anything tonight so was spared making any big decisions!

But I did get the first picture to include the whole of the new pack.

    Where's Coco!!?

Ain't here yet and I think the pool is closed. My wife is downstairs getting food and stuff for their party tonight while waiting for them to arrive.
