^ Now that's funny!
If I had a spare piece of land again I'd concrete it over and use it for parking. Even a lawn in Isaan is hard work if you want it to look better than a neglected building site.
It was nothing to do with you mate. I was goaded into posting a pic (pixelated, mind you) of my knackered right big toe but later thought it was inappropriate for a family forum.
(Sorry MM... I hope you'd already had your tea)
Amazing that frogs will spawn in a salt water pool. I wonder if the tadpoles survived? There's a pic somewhere on this thread showing a couple of tree frogs spawning in our pond before the concrete liner went in. I'll search it out, but in the meantime this was the pond today... there are tadpoles everywhere. These must have come from more than one batch of spawn and I'm still mystified why they are spawning this time of year.

Here ya go. These tree frogs spawned in the pond a few years ago and I caught them mid-deed. We occasionally get the same kind of frothy white balls of spawn in our water butts. It's these kind of frogs that I suspect are responsible for our latest batch of tadpoles.

^On like Flynn :)
With one hell of a dose of thrush
^ His toe or the frog?
And how can you be sure this heavily pixilated toe wasn't a pork sword?
^ i don't think he's gone full Dill yet
It was too big, for one, and if my 'pork sword' turns black at the end I'll be off to see the doc rather than post pictures of it on the internet.
And I have to say that the day I start posting pics of my 'pork sword' on Teakdoor, pixelated or not, is the day I'll really start questioning my life.
Anna continues to live in the pond area. I put her outside again this morning as I was hoping that her season had finished, but the big brown dog was still outside waiting and she ran straight back in.
I feel a bit sorry for her being alone all the time but have to introduce her to the pack gradually. I let our dogs into the pond area individually from time to time to keep her company, although I have to keep Max and Maya on a lead to stop any squabbles. Tommy and Yogi, our two 'intact' boys require close supervision for obvious reasons.
She enjoys watching me feed the fish.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...6&d=1641292988
And today she enticed Yogi and Tommy out on to the 'love' jetty after I'd fed the fish. I have a feeling she knows exactly what she's doing. She has these guys wrapped around her little claw.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...7&d=1641293001
I went around the other side of the pond to get a better pic but things escalated fast and Tommy was on the verge of 'having a go'. I had to get back fast to separate them.
I don't want any more tadpoles in the pond area! :)

But she’s been cut? Does it matter?
I guess it doesn't really matter but it just doesn't seem right.
A lot of the local street dogs' sexual health probably isn't up to scratch and I wouldn't like her to catch something and pass it on. It would be nice for Tommy to pop his cherry though as he's been looking a bit frustrated lately. Yogi did the deed with Coco a couple of years ago and seems a bit more relaxed about things.
The pond is gradually becoming overrun with tadpoles which are visibly growing by the day. It doesn't look like the fish are eating them and I'm looking forward to having a load of baby frogs hopping around the place in the near future. I wonder what type of frog they are. This is the first time this has happened since we built the pond around 7 years ago.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...3&d=1641384711
The fish aren't eating them but I think Yogi may have drunk a few.

I did a spot of fishing this afternoon and all of a sudden this frog or toad came up to the surface. I've tried to identify it but nothing is jumping out at me.
Maybe this is one of the parents of all the tadpoles? A few days ago the tadpoles all just disappeared and now there's not a single one to see. Maybe as they mature they go down to deeper water to feed?

Mendip didn't mention it but I managed to make enough time this afternoon to pay him a short visit and I watched him catch his dinner.

Fish on, fish on or is it Fish in?
Attachment 81700
He didn't need his net to land this one but he was happy to have caught his dinner.
Attachment 81701
There's a happy Isaanite for ya.
Attachment 81702
And this one is especially for Stumpy a freshly caught fish (can't get that out of your pool can ya) and what's more Mendy's skanky feet are included, what more could you ask for?
Attachment 81703
Last but not least just to show Mendy's factotum does really do some gardening that's the best I have seen it look.
I also found out he is the fish filleter as well.
^ Can I just add what a pleasure it was to be paid a visit by Ootai.
Despite being an Aussie he seems OK... the dogs and even the daughter seem to like him and as they say, children and animals are the best judge of character.
... wow... did I just say that?
WTF has the gardener put in this latest batch of Ya Dong?
I do not think I would eat anything that came out of that pond.
Lately I've been noticing more and more clumps of pink snail eggs laid on the reeds and around the edges of the pond. I'm pretty sure that a thriving water snail population is an indication of a healthy pond. We certainly didn't get this before last year's big clean out.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...6&d=1643596908
That was an empty water snail shell I put next the clump of eggs, just to show the type of snails we have. I hope the wife doesn't notice the clumps of eggs because if she realises we have a thriving snail population she'll mercilessly harvest them to eat.

The weather has really hotted up in Korat the last few days and it's time to start using the waterfall again to help aerate the water... it's been out of action over the cool season but I've now noticed pla nin at the surface around dawn, gulping in air.
First step before firing it up was to give it a good haircut.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...8&d=1643596932
But when I got round to the front I noticed a bird fly out from the foliage. It didn't look like a Greenish warbler either.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...9&d=1643597005
Closer inspection revealed a nest containing at least a couple of young chicks... so I quietly withdrew and hopefully the mother hasn't been disturbed too badly. This operation has now been postponed for a couple of weeks and I can't turn on the waterfall as the nest would be washed away. I'll just have to hope the fish will be OK in the meantime.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...0&d=1643597017
I don't know what kind of bird this is... maybe Shutree could pop over and try and take a photo of the mother as she visits the nest?
Fucking hell mendy. Thank fuck your a geo and not an environmentalist working for a mining company, plenty of projects would never of got started. Just relocate the nest, aerate the pond, stock up on tinned peas, and its all hunky dory in Korat. Teakdoors answer to Dr Dolittle:) we got enough doctors here already
^ I like to think of myself as a geo-environmentalist... with a Ya Dong habit.
I do often think that I'm too soft for this life in Thailand... hence 7 street dogs, around 40 chickens... half of which stopped laying years ago and a 7kg catfish in the pond that I won't let the gardener 'harpoon' because I think of it as a pet.
However I do have a huge stock of both tinned and frozen peas just now so one out of three ain't bad!
