Yes Looper, Lola is a lot smaller and slighter than her sister which does seem strange as both her and her sister eat well. She was sick and nearly died a couple of weeks before we took her in and that seemed to knock her growth a bit - before that all the pups were similar size.

Maybe she's just a smaller dog? Lola's dad (in that pic) must be 50% heavier than our Tommy and they are brothers.

I walked up the road this afternoon with Lola and the daughter to get a cold drink at Pajama Girl's shop.

I had an iced coffee while the daughter had some revolting looking concoction that involved putting Oreos and milk in a food blender.

This all gave me a chance to play with PJG's new toy.

You press the white button and then prod your target. When I prodded the ground there was a crackling noise and a few sparks.

I tested it out on an ant but felt a bit guilty afterwards as it just shriveled up and died, although I'm not sure if it was the electric shock that did the damage or if I just squashed it.

Look out hammer killer's pit bull, next time you come attack Lola's family!

1489 Baht mate, and all the way from China. We're not messing around.

PJG is very unhappy and has installed CCTV and says that next time the pit bull comes around and attacks Lola's family, she is going straight to the police. They won't do anything of course unless 'encouraged' and I'm more than happy to help.

While idling away some unexpected relaxing time I felt that I was being watched... these guys just want me to get on with frying up the sausages. Anna is coming into heat so Tommy and Yogi are keeping a close watch. But also Maya was involved... and something didn't look right. There was some kind of an impasse...

Anna will not provoke the dominant Maya and Maya will no longer attack Anna... maybe due to a softening of attitude but more likely because Maya knows she'll get a real bollocking.

I went to investigate as they all looked awkward.

Maya's foot was on Anna's tail and neither dared to move...

I take this as a positive in the pack dynamics. They will v]never be good friends but so long as they stop fighting I'm happy.

I hate to speak ill of Thai's but a Thai, especially a typical Somchai, and a Pit bull are possibly one of the worst dog/ owner combinations you can get. Glad to see you have got some sort of defense but I would prefer a shogun when dealing with a improperly owned/ trained Pit

Lola meets her other family every morning on the way to school. They are all healthy and the pit bull has stayed away... I think that PJG let it be known she has the cattle prod and the hammer killer is making an effort to keep his dog contained. I wonder if dogs can sense or smell electricity? Whenever I've taken the prod out, Lola's remaining father immediately disappears. Maybe he can hear the hum?

The daughter had something on at school today and was allowed to wear jeans... she looks so grown up. I wish she could have stayed little.

A little later and Lola with the boys. She innocently thinks they just enjoy her company but she has a shock coming in a few weeks...

Maya and Anna were together, amazingly enough. There's been no fights for some time and it even looks as though Maya is trying to make friends, but Anna's having none of it.

Anna does enjoy spending time with Tommy and Yogi, our two 'intact' boys. They seem very comfortable in each other's company.

Lola with Maya. Lola has made friends with each member of the pack individually and can be found with any one of them, mooching about the garden. She really has been so easy to integrate with the others.

And Anna relaxing. Despite the heat, a dog will always find a patch of sun. I don't know if Anna does this deliberately but lying here completely blocks off the doorway for the others and they have to go round the long way to sit under the fan. I have a feeling she knows exactly what she's doing... and it's good stuff I reckon. This means that she's growing in confidence and finally relaxing around the others.

Edit: whoops, I forgot the photo.

She knows her place in the pack I guess.

    Everybody loves nail clipping day!

Anna's nails grow fast these days, I guess because she doesn't get a lot of exercise to wear them down.

Yogi loves to watch although strangely he would probably take my hand off if I tried to clip his nails. Luckily his don't seem to grow.

Even though Anna has let herself go a bit, Yogi still won't let Tommy anywhere near. He seems to have a special bond with Anna.

Aaawww... despite her brutal start to life, Anna is our gentlest dog and clipping nails, vaccinations, dressing up, anything at all in fact is never a problem. What a wonderful dog!

I'd like to partially challenge that statement.

Whilst there's nothing I disagree with, it's worth adding that a local on Nakhorn Nowhere decided that it'd be a good idea to breed a Bangkeow with a Rottweiler - said dog now beats the crap out of everything else in a large range. My two Bangkeows are quite tough, are up for a fight, but stay local to our home (well, the wife and her family's shitehole that I paid for...), but the f'kin Bangkweiler keeps coming around and beating them up; quite badly. They always fight back and have a good go, but the Bangkeow mentality with the size and power of the Rottweiler will take some matching (it'll happen sooner or later), but the bloody dog roams far and wider causing chaos (probably a Thai laying some poison will end it's reign of terror?).

Now, if Somchai and his mate Somsak were to breed that BangWeiler with a Pitt Bull then we'd have a problem, Houston.

I'd like to end by stating that we're not in Kansas anymore, and it's a long way to Tipperary.

    ^ But 'Rot-gut' does work.

    See how I did that!

We've had a bit of rain about tonight so it was a change of venue... which should have arguably gone into the 'What are you drinking tonight' thread.

I've done really well for the first week or so after returning home to Isaan... but soon enough the true reality hits home and the gardener's constant offers of Ya Dong are agreed to.

I like to watch the vegetable patch in the evening. Maybe not quite like looking at a cerulean sea view but there could be worse.

Yogi is such a strange dog... he generally hates to be touched but will always sit right next to me when I sit outside.

He's a beautiful dog and loves the daughter to bits. Only she and I can do this. I sometimes wonder if he's a tad autistic.

If that ain't a smile, I don't know what is.

Aaawww... how could I ever leave these guys?

^ Beauty comes from within, mate.

I've learnt that the hard way.

And if your 'wrinkled foreskin' is as hairy as that, at least the fried egg mystery is solved!

The one thing I admire about Thai people is the way they name things as they see them. Even with their own kids with names like Uan or Doot Merk

If Yogi was named by a Thai, he'd probably be called 'EveryBranch'

^ But is it still called 'pussy' if you're a dog?

Anyway, Maya had been off her food for a couple of days and just wasn't herself. She wasn't playing with Lola and just sat under a table looking morose.

The daughter reckoned that she had depression... yeah, that's kids these days. Immediately go for a 'mental health' prognosis for a sick dog. What are they teaching them these days?

Anyway, I don't go with the theory that a dog can get depressed just by living in Isaan, with the endless heat, humidity, monotony and complete lack of stimulating company. I know dogs... there was something up.

Maya wasn't interested in breakfast today, so it was off to the vet.

She is so well behaved in the car. Nary a wee or pooh, something Anna could take note of.

Here we passed one of Korat's finest. When these plastic policeman first came out in Korat I told the wife that they were trying to increase the force's IQ.

Lost of course but it made me smile to myself.

We arrived at the vet and there were a 'couple' opposite with four dogs, none on leads and all extremely well behaved. No way could I do that with any four of our dogs. I put couple in 'inverted commas' because they were obviously two girls and one with short hair... but after the way the other thread went I'm saying nothing. They obviously loved their dogs and they both gave me a nice smile. End of, for me.

Anyway, while Maya and I were waiting for our appointment, a couple of vet nurses came out and started to take the temperatures of these four dogs 'up their arses', right in front of Maya and I.

No problem for me, apart from the reminder about the much overduef prostate exam I need to do, but Maya looked well perturbed.

    She knew what was coming.

So anyway, we had our appointment and despite my belief that if a dog's nose feels cold, they're OK, Maya had a fever even with her cold nose.

Bloodwork showed her white blood cells to be up, platelets to be down... as to be expected with an infection.

We await the diagnosis but both I and the vet suspect a tick-borne blood parasite. Maya has already been vulnerable to these before.

So, a broad spectrum anti-biotic now, maybe adjusted tomorrow if necessary.

As Maya is so off her food I used my old trick to get her to take her tablets... give all the others a treat and her jealousy becomes so great she would eat anything... including a piece of chicken loaded with three tablets! Even the wife came out to be part of it... hopefully her retinas will survive the sudden shock of daylight. I should have maybe done this gradually as with those poor pit ponies.

And that's it. Fishing tonight, and it was noticeable how much bolder Anna has become while Maya is sick.

Yeah... Maya stayed under the table. She's not feeling great.

And yet Anna stays in the rain... she doesn't have to.

Maybe she has low self esteem...
