Props to you, Mendy, for having 7 dogs. That must be a challenge to maintain. The most we've had is 4 dogs and it was hard to keep up. Now, we're down to two, a 7.5-year old male & 1.5-year female. The male is the father of the other one, and is showing signs of middle age. They're ordinary/ soi dogs but must have some mix in them because their fur is longer than that of the average soi dogs. Keep on keeping on. Cheers!

The problem with here in Thailand with dogs is that people do not take good care of them as Mendip does. Many Thais use them as a cheap means of home security. There are two homes not too far from us, one must have eight dogs, the other perhaps as many. they tie some of them up with ropes and then go to work , the dogs wail, yelp and cry all day. every time someone walks by that house in the street it sound like war.
I like to sit by my koi pond, with a cold beer and read my book, Good luck that happening with all that racket. When I leave Thailand, dogs will be part of the reason.
We have four dogs and other than the normal , you would never hear them.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

We have 3 dogs, hers really, I just dogsit all day. They are tiny animals and much given to yapping furiously at anything that passes the gate, particularly male dogs, several of which patrol the soi and cause mayhem when they stand outside. The big dogs don't pay them any attention. We needed a wall because they'd chase anything that passed and the fourth brother, the only one to which I was attached, was run over while the wall was being built.

They aren't bad animals, they are well cared for and mostly happy. The problem is they just bark at everything.

Have you considered a bark collar? I had a similar problem with a wonderful Beagle appropriately named Howler , it worked miracles.

Interesting, I never knew that such things existed. I'll have a look.

They also let you electrocute them from the handset. I zapped my husky once during training and he never disobeyed me again. I never even charged the thing or the handset, just putting it on was enough.

Basically you can make a beep noise first, if no response you can vibrate it, no response you can zap them, starting from strength 1-10. I got to number 4 before I got a response. Next time I got as far as vibrate, next time the beep, then he just started doing what he was told..

The anti-bark mode vibrates when they bark, so it gets pretty tedious for them and eventually falls out off their habit. That's the theory anyway.

Sounds a bit cruel to me. And who would trust some Chinese shite from Lazada.

I see those 'training' collars are banned in Wales but not England or Scotland
Probably to stop people like LlandudnoMike in his velcro trousers from further livestock rape

We have 3 BB. Other than the 'Rush to the gate barking" when some rings the bell, they are quiet.

Our area is pretty quiet dog wise but we do have a neighbor on the corner that has some half pint, pissant lap dog that has this most annoying droning yap. It can run off a 5 to 10 minute deal. I want to kill the thing. Its not like they aren't home to stop the mutt. They just let it drone on and on.

Howler knew he was not allowed on the couch in the formal Livingroom. He would wait until I sat down on my lazy boy recliner chair , (it made a distinctive sound) and jump on the couch. What he did not know was that I had a camera in the living room and I could see him on my telephone, The collar I had on him has a remora control also the moment he jamp on the couch I would jap him. He was a very stubborn , pig headed dog, but after a while he got the message that the couch was "The bad place" and never went near it. LOL
Some times he would also follow his nose into the woods adjacent to our house, and would not respond when I ws looking for him, so I would walk down the street pressing the collar remote control until I heard a yelp , Gott's You!! LOL
He must had seen me walking down the street with the remora control in hand, and he was not stupid, and made the connection, so every time I pick up the TV remote that looked similar to the collar remora he would run away LOL
I rescued him from the animal salter , and we were together for 14 years until he died from old age. Him and me we had an interesting relationship LOL , I still miss him.

I tend to agree, but huskies are stubborn. Smart enough to know what you're telling them but they choose to ignore you. If you want to get them out in public, down the beach or whatever you need to be able to control them off the lead.

He got zapped once, we distinguished who is in control and his life is better for it.

I would absolutely recommend this method. It done wonders to stop him jumping up on anyone coming through the gate too. No zap required, a simple beep and he knows what can come next.

My neighbor back in the states used them on his Dobermanns. Seemed to work well. Of course he dispensed with using them on the neck, he rigged it up on their nuts.

^^^^ BB, I don't suppose you know if they make a human version? A friend of mine reckons that would be just the job.

Despite having seven of the buggers now, our dogs aren't really barkers. A snake, cat or squirrel will set them off but only temporarily, as will a delivery driver, but that's their job. When I arrive home after the morning school run they know it's 'walkies' time and they go mental and start howling like a pack of wolves... but it's very short lived. By and large they're pretty quiet and peaceful, even with the new arrival.

Anna continues to integrate with the pack and it's going very well but we just have to be careful at the flash points.

One of these flash points is late afternoon meal time... 6 hungry dogs milling around the gardener's kitchen (which will soon be 7 when Anna has the confidence to go inside) is a recipe for disaster. I've been away so much lately that it's easier for the gardener to maintain the feeding... he has a good routine going that I don't want to break up.

Dan and Maya dine inside and get their bowls first... (Dan is the boss, after all)

Closely followed by Tommy and Coco out front of the kitchen... (Coco eats incredibly slowly so needs a chance to eat in peace before the others finish)

And then Max and Yogi out back of the kitchen. Yogi gets his food after the others as he eats it in two seconds flat and then scouts around for food to steal from lesser members of the pack

And last but not least, Anna dines alone the other side of a gate. She's just not ready yet to eat with the other dogs scouting about. That will take her a while.

There have been two main clashes... Anna vs Maya and Anna vs Max. The Anna-Maya clash is probably due to neither wanting to go below the other in the pack hierarchy. It was from this clash that I received my gashed forearm.

I don't know much, but I do know one thing... if I have a couple of dogs not getting on too well I take them for a walk together. This forces them to walk along with their pack leader (me!) in close attendance. Dog walks are a very good way to enforce discipline - I think I first read that in a Caesar Milan book, and it definitely works.

Yesterday the two ridgebacks Maya and Anna were forced to walk together.

And today Max and Anna walked together. This clash is just because Max is as daft as a brush and causes a lot of restlessness in the pack anyway. He's been neutered and the other dogs don't seem to know how to handle that. I'll never again have a male dog neutered... speying the females doesn't seem to effect their temperament as neutering does the males.

And this seems to have worked... things are relaxed and today Anna was confident enough to enter the workshop area where the dogs sleep at night, and all was calm.

I think within a week Anna will be a fully integrated member of the pack and sleeping inside at night with the others. But for now she's happier on her bed outside and Coco has taken to sleeping on the step to keep her company. These dogs have a better social life than I do.

My Coco is very quiet until there's someone at the gate and then she's well off. Got quite a high jump for a fatty. Love it.

She also hates the mother in law.

I have not seen one for humans, if you find one let me know , there are times I could use one with my wife LOL
You have not been yelled at, until you have been yelled by my wife LOL

The way your dogs bark is the way they should. If they bark all the time at trivial things then when they are barking at something serious , no one will pay attention to them. A bit of the buy crying wolf. Our dogs are the same as yours, they bark , as dogs do on certain occasions, you want them to do that, but not all the time. Though Mina is Useless, today there was a small snake , looked like a harmless rat snake , and as it slithered across our driveway (the wife told me I did not see it) Mina just sat there looking at it.

If and when you feed Anna with the dogs make sure you stand with her while she eats that way you can (as the pack leader) growl at any of the others that try to steal her food.
I have to do that sometimes here as the "Boss" dog tries to move in on the underlings food.
You mentioned Caesar Milan and the one thing I remember from him is when he said, "there are 2 things a male dog will fight for, a female and food."

When is the Missus coming home to disturb the peace and discover the pack is now 7?

^ The wanderer returned the day before yesterday... hence my query to BB about a human 'bark' collar.

But don't read anything into that, the timing was purely coincidental!

While I was away at work last time the wife messaged me one night asking about taking in a black boy puppy. I said no, which I hate to do, mainly because I knew that the wife's 'friends' were just taking advantage, but also because the wife does fukk all to help with these dogs. Maya was the wife's introduction yet it has been me who has spent endless hours sewing up Maya's chew-holes in the outside sofa and compensating visitors for Maya-chewed shoes. And besides, we had 6 dogs at the time and 7 would be ludicrous.

My softness is such that occasionally I still regret not taking that black boy in, as I denied him a life... he will no doubt be a road statistic by now but you can't save them all.

I guess my point is, the wife can't say anything about Anna as she wanted another anyway...

But she no doubt will, at some point. She's Thai... reasoning doesn't come into it.

That is the gf. "They are dogs, that's what dogs do."

Erm, no it is not, get out there and tell them to stop. They usually will stop when told. She gets right grumpy when I tell her that her dogs are her responsibility to control.

Surely she cleans up the mountain of daily dog shit and has to feed them when you are swanning away on your cruise ship?

Thais normally eat on the floor right because it's more aroy and yet you have that dog sofa that must stink to high heaven at nose level.

My missus likes sewing, knitting and embroidery whilst sat on the floor next to my sofa whilst I'm sat here scratching my balls, giggling away to Ting Tong TV or Lakorn on her ipad and very rarely curses.

Here's some of her handywork... A hat, come tea cosy and a single cushion.

I showed her your patched up dog couch and your toenailless foot and asked her if she could sew any of those.

"Oh my fukkin buddha!!!" she screamed in disgust.
