Totally agree with you Buck. So many starving puppies on the street, why would you go buy a dog from a breeder? Today on my morning rounds I will take pics. These are dogs I feed everyday, rain or shine. Because I like to eat everyday, I think dogs are probably the same, they like to eat everyday.
My dogs are fat and healthy and when I leave my house and see starving dogs on the street, I think I should share. This is my first stop in the morning, I feed 5 dogs here. These are not homeless dogs, this is a dog rescue. This man is a good man, the Thai people know it so they dump pups in front of his house. He told me he can not afford to feed them much, so I make a donation everyday. You can see how close he lives to the road, a lot of pups don't last long.
My next stop has 6 dogs, these are the trash dogs, they live off the trash pile. I have been feeding them for over a year and they are the only dogs that have never warmed up to me. The one in the front is female. About a year ago I knew she had a litter of pups so I started feeding her, since then she has dropped another litter.
My next stop has 5 dogs. The red dog Bau, I had her spayed. She was dumped at about 8 weeks old and I found her right away and have been taking care of her since. Keep her from having pups and her life will be much better. Life on the street is tough and when they have a litter it must be very tough. The grey pup Ash looks really bad, but you should have seen her when I found her. I swear she was only a few days from death, she was a walking skeleton. She hung out in front of somebodies house but they would not feed her. A few weeks later I see these people went and bought a chihuahua. How could you let a pup like this starve and then go buy a dog? I think if she was well cared for she would be beautiful. When she is older I will get her spayed.
I have to mention Max, can't find his pic right now. I've been taking care of Max for 5 years. I used to go into the city everyday just to feed Max. Then he got lucky, he found a noodle shop that takes care of him. They feed him good but of course they do not scratch his belly or treat his ticks and fleas. So every Sunday I go to the city to brush him, scratch his belly and treat him for ticks and fleas. Like Buck said Thailand needs a spay and neuter program for street dogs, but that will never happen in our lifetime. Maybe in certain areas like Phuket, but never nationwide. We falang need to set an example, show we have a heart and help ease their suffering.
Fantastic stuff Tunk. I'm currently feeding around fourteen homeless street dogs, plus one old lady neighbour's dog (which we have fed for around eight years) and our six.
Some of the females have been speyed, but some are impossible to catch... or wouldn't be safe to try and handle. As you say, once neutered their lives become a lot easier and the risk of disease and general gynaecological problems are vastly reduced. Not to mention fewer unwanted puppies.
The problem I find is, once I start feeding a dog it becomes a commitment... I can't just stop. Sometimes I wish I was a bit harder.
Anyway, while on the topic... this was Maya this morning...
Yes... sans Yogi and Tommy! We've had two quiet nights and Maya no longer holds the boys in the palm of her paws.
Tommy came out and sniffed the floor...
And Yogi visibly snubbed the poor girl. He's despicable... only interested in one thing.
In fact Yogi seemed more interested in his old flame Coco this morning...
So all this nonsense only meant one thing... Maya's season was over and it was time for a visit to the vet.
It has to be done, but I always feel bit sorry for the girl when she gets neutered. It feels a bit like playing God and denies them the chance of motherhood forever. But it has to be done for the greater good and how can I justify having a bitch producing puppies at home when I spend half my time trying to find homes for unwanted street puppies.
I still felt sorry for Maya today however, and will forever wonder what a litter sired by Yogi would have looked like.
We dropped her off at the vet late morning and a few hours later picked her up and brought her home...
The pack had missed her and came out to welcome her home.
She was feeling very sorry for herself.
Yogi found time for a quiet word... maybe lamenting what could have been...
Poor Maya... she'll spend the night inside tonight and hopefully will feel better in the morning.
jeeeeze, she looks miserable. but the right thing to do!
^ Yeah, Maya's been a bit glum tonight but she's only a few hours out of a general anaesthetic and minus some pretty fundamental women's bits. Her hormones must be going haywire.
Imagine if you woke up from a general minus yer bollocks... it would be a miserable feeling.
These guys bounce back fast... guaranteed in a couple of days she'll be trying to rip the collar off and howling to play with Coco.
But for tonight she's sleeping upstairs in our bedroom where I can keep an eye on her.
^Hope Maya is feeling better tomorrow after her ordeal Mendip.
Praise be all the saints it is a Teakdoor miracle!
A philosophical conundrum that has puzzled teakdoor's finest minds down the ages
If evolution is real, why don't dogs have hands?
Yellow and red sucks
But he is nice to dogs
All forgiven
One hell of a beautiful looking dog is Maya.
It's 'socks' not 'sucks', but admittedly it's rare a Scandinavian needs their English correcting!
Yeah thanks Hal, Maya is a little cutie. Or a big cutie now... she's over 20 kilos and our biggest dog, with maybe another eight months of growing to go.
I've been letting Maya inside at night while she's recovering from the op and still segregated from the others. We've been having heavy nighttime rain and it seems unfair to leave her outside while the rest sleep in the workshop.
She loves to sit next to the daughter. They are great pals.
And Yogi's a beautiful looking dog as well in his way... beauty comes from within!
Rules for Wearing Red and Yellow.
The yellow should be more of a French's mustard yellow than traditional mustard which had more brown undertones. When the red and yellow have the same color saturation values, they play nicely together – meaning, a pastel yellow looks better with a pink than a bold red.3 Jun 2019
