I was having a rare Leo this afternoon while idly watching Anna eating her tea, and yet again I wondered what or who on earth could have caused such terrible scars to her rear end. It makes me really happy that her life has turned out OK after such an obviously terrible start.

    But anyway, life goes on.

A little known fact about Anna is that she's been a life long Bristol City fan and she can't wait for 10pm tonight. Promotion is probably out of our reach this year so we can concentrate on the cup.

Tonight I gave her my old Bristol City top that I can't fit into anymore, and she was well chuffed! Mind you, it was a bit tight on her as well. A year of easy living in a home hasn't been kind to her waistline.

Yep... genuine. A proper team... 1897... not one of these new money making operations funded by dirty money.

This reminded me, I can't remember the last time I had a pint of Blackthorn. Something I will remedy in a few month's time.

    Yeah Cyrille, we want some.

Have you got a dog to dress up in West Brom livery? Call yerself a real fan? Have you any idea how much fun it can be?

I can solve all your problems, just get in touch.

But either way, city'll stuff you tonight!

In fact we know Panda's mother. The gf has fed her since she was a puppy. She has a brother we found a home for, he is a nice natured dog, fairly tall and we see him most days as his house is just along our lane. Panda's mother is medium sized, the father we have no information about. Panda eats a lot, really a lot, so I think she'll grow into something larger than average street dog.
Meanwhile, Frankie weighed in at 0.75kg on the day she was found, then 1.1kg a week later at the vet's then 1.8kg another week on. She is still only about 5 to 6 weeks old, my guess is that she'll always be smaller than Panda. Time will tell.

One last picture of them because you can't have too many puppy pics and maybe someone out there will realise how great it would be to give Mendip's puppies a home.

    ^ Thank you Shutree.

You certainly can't have too many puppy pics.

Something I didn't think of before... it's not only members but many guests may also read this thread ( I have seen a picture I posted here turn up on a local Facebook group).

Anyway, any guests from the Korat area reading this... just join TD, send me a message and a puppy can be yours!

Anna discovered spaghetti tonight and she absolutely loves it.

I've never known a dog like her. She will eat anything put in front of her.

The puppies' dad was around this morning. He's become friendly and will also take food from my hand now.

What a handsome chap he is... looks just like a Teddy Bear!

It makes you think how good looking his two daughters and son will be...

It's been quite a roller coaster few days for the dog family up the road.

I was talking to the pajama girl yesterday and she was telling me that the boy puppy was at the vets, unlikely to survive. It seems that she found the puppies eating a pile of chicken bones someone had fed them with... but of course their young stomachs can't take all the splinters. Neither the small girl or boy had eaten anything for a few days, not able to hold down any food. She was giving them milk and vitamins but the prognosis was very poor. The big girl didn't get any of the bones as she was recovering from her second run-in with a car... which may well have saved her.

I'd noticed that the boy and small girl weren't coming out to feed the last few mornings, and now I know why. These guys aren't getting much luck.

This morning before school I walked up with the daughter, full of trepidation... fully expecting to only see the one girl pup as the sole survivor...

But the little girl also ran out to greet us, wagging her tail. I gave her a few pieces of chicken and liver and she wolfed them down... the first solid food I've seen her eat in a few days. Even the father looked happy and gave us a wave.

She's very thin and weak, but fingers crossed she can now pull through. Hopefully any damage to her stomach was temporary.

The big girl will be staying with pajama girl and the boy probably hasn't survived.

Any takers? She really needs a good home... she's very timid and won't survive on the street.

    Aaawwwww...

This could have gone in the Breakfast thread of course, but I think I should keep all my crap in my own threads.

Just giving it the daily bump in the hopes that someone out there wanting a puppy sees it...

    ^ How's your bug-eyed frog-looking mutt doing?

    But I digress...

Yesterday evening I walked up with the daughter to see the puppies and the two sisters were looking particularly cute and gorgeous.

Their brother is back from the vet with a clean bill of health. I have never seen such a placid, friendly, docile and contented looking little puppy. He is now the last one looking for a home and I would urge anyone in the Korat area who would like a puppy or who knows someone who would like a little boy puppy to get in touch. I will pay for inoculations. Please think about it.

And this is why he is the last one looking for a home... the pajama girl is keeping the big, bold girl and guess where the gorgeous little timid girl is going...?

Yes, there was always something inevitable about this. The daughter had fallen in love and I've been getting on with the wife a bit better these days... so strike while the iron's hot and all that. After some discussion the wife agreed to let Katie come and live with us... although her name will change as that would be a bit weird.

Also, I thought that since I've been trying to get others to take one of these puppies, maybe I should out my money where my mouth is?

We walked up this morning before school...

The siblings last breakfast together... the little girl making up for some missed meals last week.

A last goodbye to her family and wonderful carer... without whom she would doubtless not still be alive.

And then 'Operation Puppy' went into action.

    Aaawww...

And that was it. Welcome little girl to your new home. I must admit I do have reservations about this, but we have space and what difference does one more make? We had six, now we have seven. I know one thing... I would have been gutted to walk up to see them one morning and find her dead on the road.

I had her to myself for about 10 seconds... Yogi was straight in there.

The process of integration will now begin. I'm not worried about the three boys or the timid Coco... in fact the despicable Yogi will positively welcome another young girl to the pack and will immediately start grooming her, waiting for her first season so he can have his wicked way.

The two problems will be Maya and Anna. Maya is a very jealous dog and Anna seems to be hard wired to go for any other female dog... a result I guess of five years battling for her patch on the street. This was one reason I was happy to take the timid, submissive little girl puppy... I think she will be easier to integrate into the pack than, for example, her bolder sister.

Anyway, Anna's first introduction. She was of course sitting on her chair.

And that was enough for one session. The puppy will stay indoors a few days with occasional sessions outside with one dog at a time to gradually get them used to the idea of a new pack member. Within a few weeks she'll be out living with them in the workshop but I don't want to rush things.

So far she's taken it all in her stride...

And seems to be settling in just fine!

    And her name?

I don't want to rush that as sometimes a name just happens to fit a dog's character, but the current favourite which seems to suit her just fine is...

But anyway, please have a think about this guy... these puppies really are friendly and very well socialised with people. He will make a great pet!

^ Yeah, living the dream, mate!

Tonight we had the first major integration session and it couldn't have gone better, to be honest.

Tommy and Yogi, our two 'intact' males showed the most interest... surprisingly enough.

A bit of foraging down by the pond...

I have already identified Anna and Maya as the two potential problems. I had a long discussion with Ootai today about my pack dynamics and I have to admit that he got it spot on... he's surprisingly cerebral... for an Australian.

To my amazement, Anna has been no problem whatsoever and even wagged her tail at 'Lola' (still a preliminary name).

And as I've seen before to my ever increasing appreciation of the intelligence and awareness of these young puppies... 'Lola' had already identified her potential problems and on her very first evening, had started working on them.

    Anna.. seemingly sorted.

And Maya... if it wasn't for Maya I would happily let 'Lola' sleep with the pack tonight... but not yet. 'Lola' is already working on Maya and we have to be careful not to increase the jealousy. 'Lola' could probably sort this out a lot quicker without we human's clumsy intervention.

I pray your right about this Mendy. It would be utterly heartbreaking for the puppy to be ripped apart like Anna was.

What kind of diabolical thoughts are going through Maya's head as she gazes at Lola (Lola, is a great name!)?

^ Yeah, Maya is a worry. We're taking this really slowly and making a point of fussing over Maya.

'Lola' seems to have stuck and is officially her name. It suits her.

It also has no 'R's which is a bonus!

You'll still get some Thai people saying Roller, listen to how the word Rolex trips many of them up. Lolex or Lorex are common even by locals who wear one or work at Rolex boutiques. L's and R's are their nemesis

^ My wife's English is good after spending so long in Australia (well... it is a kind of English I guess!) but she still gets her Rs and Ls the wrong way round. The daughter has learnt to ask where her 'eraser' is when she's doing her homework... or else the wife will start looking for her 'lubber'. It's strange through, she also switches the other way and often asks me if I'd like some 'water meron'.

I shouldn't laugh of course with the way I butcher the pronunciation of the limited Thai I know.

There's nothing more boring than looking at other people's holiday or even children pics... but puppy pics are altogether different, or course.

Lola, or 'Rola' as the wife seems to be calling her, is settling in just fine.

On her very first morning she followed me up the stairs for the day. She's smart.

I take her outside every now and again so the others can get used to her. She hasn't put a paw wrong and seems to have summed up the pack and has worked out exactly who she has to impress (she won over the wife on the first day and I'm still amazed she's allowed in the house).

Max, the pack leader was taking a drink and she patiently waited her turn behind him.

    Perfect.

Anna has been won over already. And Tommy having his dip is no problem. He's a lovely natured dog and will just be hoping to get in front of Yogi in six months time.

    Maybe a future float-watcher...

A bit of chicken training. She showed absolutely no interest, whatsoever. Long may that last.

She is obviously underweight so I'm getting the daughter to weigh her every day and I'll teach the daughter how to plot a graph in Excel. So not only a puppy but also a Science project.

Anna sneaks into the kitchen in the evenings while I 'cook' and Lola has taken to copying Anna's posture. Anna put Lola in her place once when she must have overstepped some unseen (by me) boundary but apart from that there seems to be a friendship blossoming. Maybe she reminds Anna of her puppies all those years ago?

And then it all went wrong.

Maya is proving to be a real problem. Later on Tommy and Yogi had a small scuffle and this seemed to cause Maya to attack Anna yet again. Thankfully Lola was out of the way. This is the third time Maya has attacked Anna, unprovoked. Anna is submissive to Maya and there really should be no problem. It's a strange one as Maya is our 'highest bred' dog in many ways and this most personable dog to humans but she seems to be insanely jealous of Anna.

Anyway, another morning, another visit to the vet. I wish they did frequent visitor points. I took Lola along as well for a check-up.

Another weigh-in although I think the lead added a significant percentage to her body weight.

Half an hour later and Anna is starting to look like a patchwork quilt. Again, not a hint of aggression to the vets and nurses. She really is a great dog and doesn't deserve this.

Lola is a bit anaemic and has a blood parasite, neither surprising considering her provenance and both easily fixed. Thankfully she's clear of coronavirus and parvovirus. Next week, after she's gained some strength she'll start her vaccinations.

And home sweet home. Anna was excited to be back which is surprising given the circumstances. I've shut Maya down in the pond area for the time being as a punishment but I can't keep them separated for ever.

^ Yes Mike, it's becoming a real worry. I will start walking them together every day in the hopes that the discipline will eventually work, but it's finding the time of course with the short days here.

Anyway, life goes on. Anna is now an expert at eating and drinking wearing her cone. I must admit that I've sometimes wondered whether sticking one of these things on the wife would improve my chances some nights.

And I'm not going to give step by step updates on Lola purely to keep the thread alive while her beautiful brother puppy is still looking for a home (pictures above), but today she learnt to walk down our stairs as well as up. Our 3 year-old Tommy still can't go down stairs. Lola is a smart one.

    Step by step...

I'm here all week... or maybe a bladdy lifetime.

And it's not as though I have pretty much no social life and spend most evenings watching another episode of 'Death in Paradise' now that I've finished 'Doc Martin'...

    How sad would that be.
