^ And she could probably cook better if she was allowed in the house!

^ That question has been asked before.

And not showing off... but I wouldn't need it.

@mendip - having 7 dogs is like having your own soap opera everyday! I've already memorized the names & faces of your dogs.

In my mom's neighbourhood, there's this house with lots of dogs. I don't know their total number but they are all "breed" dogs. There's a husky, chow-chow, etc. The gate is high & always closed, so I don't know how many dogs (and cars) they have, but both have high numbers. They're a typical Fil-Chinese family - high gates/ fences and secretive. I pity the husky & chow-chow when it's summer. The "houseboy" sometimes takes the dogs out for walks.

I get this question a lot as I have a Siberian Husky here in Thailand. The answer is that they are better equipped for the heat than most dogs. They have 2 layers of fur, (inner and outer) that protects them from the sun. The dangerous rays of the sun are doubled in the snow - direct from the sun and reflected off the snow.

I have fresh water around all day and my car port has a ceiling fan that stays on 24/7 but he doesn't seem to prefer lying under it to anywhere else. He gets a few hours of exercise at least 5 times a week where he is free to bomb about on the mountain and chase whatever will run away from him, so he uses the daytime wisely to rest. Also, food is only available to my doge from sundown to sunrise, because pigeons can GTF.

My Thai Ridgeback soi dog sleeps all day in the sun, then digs hols to lie in the cool earth at night. Backwards dog.

Have you got a pic of your Thai ridgeback Dirk? Our Maya has a ridge running down her back and I'd be curious to see a pure ridgeback from the street.

I wouldn't say pure ridgeback but she has the ridge over the back of her head. I just went out and got a few snaps of them both, which meant chasing them around a bit as they generally run for cover when my toddler's on the hover.

    Archie and Doris.

My Mrs picked her up as a stray at the market, she saw the mother and she literally looked like a cartoon sheep.

She has an amazing temperament, followed my kids around keeping them safe when they were infants, takes down soi dogs when they get nasty with Archie, who just wants to play but unfortunately looks like a wolf. She is a licker and never makes a noise unless there's something non-human outside the gate, or a danger in the garden. Soi dogs can be a hit or a miss but we scored with Doris. She's getting a bit fat though.

^ Bladdy hell Armstrong... have you thought about getting a wheelbarrow?

Yeah, I'm guessing probably not pure ridgeback. That ridgeback gene must be a strong one though as you see plenty of dogs around with that ridge of backwards facing fur running down their back.

I always fancied getting a purebred Thai ridgeback on day but I think the way things are going it's unlikely to ever happen. I think they're really beautiful looking dogs.

I'll have to settle for Maya and Anna, the two of ours that have a ridge.

With her long fur, Maya's ridge is quite spectacular.

And Anna's isn't too bad either.

Maya is desperate to make friends with Anna but Anna's been playing it cool.

Anna continues to settle in well and every day she seems a little more comfortable living here. Today I was up early to do some work on the chicken run and must have left the back door open. The daughter came down later and said that she was woken by Tommy and Anna pushing her bedroom door open and sticking their heads through the gap. I think sneaking in the house and going upstairs was quite a bold move on Anna's part... but cute that they went searching for my daughter. She had to carry Tommy downstairs because he still hasn't figured out how to get down stairs... he can only go up. Anna of course had no problem coming back down, even though this was probably her first experience of a flight of stairs.

Anna continues to settle in and this morning started to try and play with the others. She just needs to build up her confidence a bit.

It seems that Maya may have found a parent of all of our tadpoles... or it seems more likely toadpoles.

When you see dogs doing this stuff you realise how great it is to have an opposable thumb.

Unlike the gentleman I was drinking with tonight, I have 2.

I also prefer a red squiggle under a word like 'realise' over using a 'z'.

Great video Mendip! It is a joy to watch animals playing. Great to see Anna making progress, she looks like she is just enjoying the commotion.

Love Thai Ridgebacks, definitely top of our list.

This is the welcome I get around 6am every single morning when I open up the house and garden... they were a bit quieter than usual this morning as the wife had beaten me downstairs and had received the full-on morning welcome. I would find the place awfully quiet without these guys around.

Anna continues to settle in and get used to family life. She's showing a lot of distinctly Thai characteristics and it would be easy to draw parallels with another female member of the household... but I won't go there.

After the early dog walk and breakfast Anna likes a morning snooze on her day chair (she always sleeps on the other chair at night). Coco makes the most of getting her old chair back and often joins Anna under the ceiling fan... they are becoming good friends.

Late morning Anna seems to enjoy a snooze in the sun by the pond.

And during the heat of the afternoon her routine is to dig a fresh hole and nap under some pot plants in the shade. She enjoys her solitude at times... I guess suddenly being thrust together with a large pack will take some getting used to.

And before anyone mentions it, I've just noticed that termite tunnel running up the wall in that last picture and will go and sort it out immediately!

Fine dogs those ridge backs and Huskies.

Mine went for a swim today, took a brush some shampoo and conditioner. His coat looks shiny now and he doesn't smell of winter mud anymore...

I brush all my dogs once a day and check them for tics.

Apart from the pug I cannot remember the last time the other 3 had a bath.

    And they don't smell.

That's not a good thing mate, particularly in the tropics. Do they have a pool or river to swim in?

^ I was told by a vet that brushing a dog is better then bathing it with water filled with chemicals.

We have a pool but they never go in it and if they go in our river they will certainly be hosed down.

They all have great coats and don't smell.

My wife gives ours a bath every month or so mostly to clean out dander. But short of that 2 of them basically live in water which is fresh water from my tank. The Choco lab prefers laying in cool damp dirt under our tree or the lawn after I water it.

A dogs skin and fur health has a lot to do with their diet.
