^ Dan's come good mate, thanks for asking.
She spends a lot of time sleeping under a fan but hobbles around the garden from time to time to see what's going on.
Her eyesight is poor and she's half deaf but she's still the pack leader and seems to enjoy the company of the other dogs.
She's nearly 15, over 80 in dog years.
Dan joined me last night...
I shudder every time I see that red cough medicine of yours...
dan shouldnt be drinking that piss,i have a few cans of thatchers will do him good.
thinking of you dan hang on in there,ST.FRANCES has a place for you with SAM when its your turn.
love dan.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
^ Dan's drinking days are over mate, but you inspired me to pick up a few tins of Thatchers Gold at Korat Chef today.
I also picked up a load of sausages and a black pudding, so thanks for that.
^And I'm glad that when ordering a breakfast and telling them to leave the black pudding off the plate they'll often say would you like some extra mushrooms instead. That shit is just wrong on every level
KW...
Make some. A friend brought me pin-head oats over and the woman at the market gave me all the blood and suet for free because it saved her a trip to the bin. I gave her 40 baht.
you’ll need to order the skins though as it need to shrink/compress to keep it together.
Cheap and easy.
Lang may yer lum reek...
Then just chop it into discs and lob it in the freezer.
^No idea if it should be served hot or cold, but I do know it's a standard item on many breakfasts served in Pattaya but they'll happily remove it. It's in the same league as things like liver, tripe, and kidney to me
^^ Yeah agree... a black pudding should be soft and succulent. You don't need a lot with a fry up but a couple of slices really finish it off.
This is the one I picked up today... and seeing as this is a dog thread I wanted to keep it on topic.
The problem is, it's frozen. I didn't really think things through... just saw black pudding and instinctively bought it. I only have one fry up a week at most these days so a couple of slices now and again are more than enough. How to saw through this thing... I should have bought ready sliced.
One of the things I miss most about home is access to good black or white pudding with a breakfast.
Can you not give half to your Welsh mate?
^ We're not that close.
It's funny what you miss... I think I've sacrificed a lot by living in Isaan... but to be honest most things aren't really a problem, I just like to complain.
But tonight made me realise how much I really miss access to decent cider. There is no draught cider in the entire city, the second largest city in Thailand, no less. And getting hold of tins or bottles of good cider is very difficult at best but usually impossible. Life shouldn't be this hard.
I thought you worzels only needed a couple of apples, a bag of a sugar and a barrel and you'd be ruddy cheeked by evening?
Nevermind the toad in the hole, this should be your next job and forum thread!
I used to think you were a smart bloke...
It does sound easy....
Also delicious.
you can let it half defrost, saw through it was a serrated knife and then freeze the pieces again without any problems!
Some may remember that back in April I took a couple of lovely young puppies, Maddy and Cooper, up to Nong Khai where Gallowspole had kindly offered them a home.
Devastatingly, they later contracted Canine Parvovirus and Maddy sadly didn't pull through.
The two pups were kept isolated within a walled property with virtually no visitors due to Covid isolation and had received their first (of two) parvo jabs when they caught the disease. How they caught it is a mystery... maybe a speck of infected faecal matter on a shoe... who knows. This was a tragic reminder of how extremely infectious this devastating canine disease is and how prevalent it is in Thailand. Please get your dogs inoculated against it as it is very often fatal.
I find this all the more sad as despite all the odds from their precarious beginnings these two puppies had really fallen on their paws and found a fantastic home. Maddy was incredibly unlucky to have come into contact with the virus during a very short window while she was susceptible, before the second jab that would have given immunity.
Here's a photo of the two, a few weeks after arriving in Nong Khai...
And here was Cooper a couple of nights ago.
RIP Maddy, you didn't get much luck in life.
But life goes on of course... maybe Maddy's tragedy will create an opportunity for another puppy...
Meanwhile back in The Mendip household the girl has become a woman and Maya has started her first season.
Yogi of course is all over her like a rash...
And Tommy is no slouch either...
... and Maya doesn't now get much time alone.
Poor Maya... she's separated at night although her best mate Coco joins her... so it's not too bad. In the day I let them run together as she's obviously not 'ready' yet... but once she is there will be howling during the night and I'll be watching Yogi like a hawk... he has form.
I'd much rather get Maya spayed after going through her first season as I think that's healthier for a bitch, although it wasn't possible for Coco... thanks to Yogi.
Never ever heard of that before so I just had to google:
An important health benefit of spaying female pets is reduction in the incidence of mammary cancer. If we spay a female dog before her first estrus, or “heat,” we essentially eliminate her chances of developing mammary cancer.
and
Can Dogs Get Spayed While in Heat? YES! Most people are under the impression that once a dog is in heat, you have to wait until she is done the cycle before she can be spayed.
Now get it done before there's an "accident"!
^ I'm not sure why I've always thought this... but it's something I've always been aware of... but maybe with no substance?
I called the vet but they don't want to spey Maya until she's finished her season.
Last year they speyed Coco while she was still in her season, but after Yogi had had his wicked way with her. And around 14 years ago they speyed Dan while she was in her first season, but after her brother had had his wicked way with her. It seems they will spey a bitch in season 'after the deed' to prevent an unwanted litter of puppies, but not before the deed. As usual in Thailand I am left scratching my head.
This should be no real problem since we have several areas divided by walls with gates... the pond and pool are completely enclosed from when the daughter was young... and other areas.
But of course... Thais ain't exactly famous for their ability to close gates.
We shall see...
so sad for you mate that maddy should catch this dreadfull parvo.i have always said this country is not the place to bring up mans best freind [heartbreaktng] we suffered badly when our beloved sam passed away with a parasite infection, you just have to be on your guard 24/7.our molly only has her walks early morning, but is checked for tick as soon as we get back, even then she can pick up the brown dog ticks that are on the road left by roaming dogs.
We had a soi dog puppy dumped outside our front gate that was obviously very sick and we took her in and nursed her back to health after a 10,000 Baht visit to the vet.
Parvo is a killer but Lucky is now fit and happy.
