We've all seen it... an entire family; dad, mum and kids all decked out in matching gear. Cringe worthy to say the least, or that's what I used to think.

But it can look pretty cool.

    I reckon.

And yeah... who'd ever trust a daughter to take a few pictures, more fool me... who knew that my favourite dinosaur boxers could do with some darning...

Anyway, the reason for this post... Anna has officially endorsed Arsenal to win the 2024-2025 Premier League.

Supporting Bristol City is a pretty thankless task and we appreciate this may seem like brazen glory hunting, but Chitty has assured us that it's OK. I'll still support Bristol City but my 'premier' team will be Arsenal.

I have credentials; during the 80s at uni I lived with a couple of Londoner Arsenal supporters and visited Highbury on several occasions, and always watched 'The Gunners' at The Dell when they visited Southampton. I even watched the match (1989?) when Michael Thomas scored the winner against Liverpool for Arsenal to win the league. I was very much a Rocastle (RIP)/Adams era supporter.

I even had a pet ferret called Gooner, back in the day,

So, bring it on. I can finally partake in the football threads.

    Happy Days.

So come on Arsenal, let's stick it to those plastic cheats!

Pretty standard gear in my profession, to be honest.

I'm just waiting for the right occasion to wear these beauties.

Anyway, I've been doing a bit of admin in my office the last few days and whenever I look down, I see this...

Lola has learnt that once the wife has settled into a day of intense telly watching, she can push open the back door and creep upstairs, undetected. I enjoy her company to be honest, Lola that is, so am quite happy about the arrangement. I will sneak her out later.

Since Lola joined us a year and a half ago, her and Maya have been absolutely inseparable. But then they had a fight last week.

This came out of the blue and I don't know the instigator, but Maya has history in attacking other girls. As with many Thai females, she has a nasty jealous streak. I separated them with no injuries other than superficial cuts and bruises and doled out due punishments. The fighting now seems to be over but it's a real shame to see them wary of, and avoiding each other when usually it has been non stop play time.

Last night they sneaked in the house in and instead of playing on the sofa they sat as far apart as possible.

    Maya in the daughter's corner...

Lola behind the dining room table in the opposite corner...

As far apart as they could possibly be...

Lola gradually edged closer during the evening... I hope they make up soon.

^ There's four of these 'love fish', I think they're called. I think this is because they are the shape of a 'love heart' which from what I can gather is due to the removal of their tail fins. Or maybe it's natural as I couldn't imagine the Thais being cruel to an animal for vanity reason. They also seem to send a lot of time 'kissing' although that's like no love I've experienced.

There's also a spotted catfish thing, although it's very hard to get a photo of it. I don't like to keep one fish alone like this but I've spent a year now trying to get it a friend from one of the many aquariums in Korat with no success. After 18 years the fish tank could do with a good overhaul... the glass has become stained by minerals in the water but like many other things... it's on the list.

Anyway, if anyone ever notices a brand new Mercedes around Korat it probably belongs to my vet. I was there yet again yesterday.

    And specially for David...

    *** medical picture alert ***

After Maya and Lola's fight a few days ago I had noticed Maya occasionally shaking her head in slight distress. A quick inspection showed a lump on the edge of her mouth... Lola must have bitten her just on the lip and I had missed it. There was now an abscess, which the vet lanced, opened up and cleaned.

I wasn't allowed to watch but the rather attractive vet showed me a picture afterwards. I asked if she could send me the picture on LINE but she must have realised my subterfuge in trying to become a LINE friend, and just allowed me to take a picture of the picture.

Poor old Maya. She hates wearing a cone so I allowed her in alone last night to give her a break from Lola.

Luckily enough I didn't have to pay for another cone as I have six at home already! I'm glad that I took Maya yesterday as now that she's on anti-biotics all will doubtlessly be well. I have to go to Bangkok for the weekend so this is reassuring.

A strange thing... we had a lot of loud thunder and lightning last night before a night of persistent rain. Anna becomes a bit distressed by thunder but she always sits outside... Dan also used to get frightened by thunder but she hid in the downstairs toilet, which made more sense to me.

Maybe Anna just likes to watch the lightning, or maybe it's a bit like cows sitting down to get some rest before it rains, and Anna was just getting some 'outside' time before the rain inevitably arrived?

Maybe the clapping thunder brings back some memory of how she received her awful scarring? I wish she could talk at times.

And to show that I'm equally sympathetic, whatever your sensibilities...

*** Yogi nutsack picture alert ***

Anna's strange behaviour disrupted Yogi's usual evening routine and he waited by the gardener's back door for Anna to come back inside.

I checked on them later on and all was well in the world again.

Lola has pride of place in the Mendip household tonight, and there's a reason for that.

Something has gone wrong with the harmony of the pack these last few days and Maya seems to be the root cause. She has attacked all the other girls since I've been home; first Coco, then Lola and tonight Anna... again. I thought this stuff had all finished a while ago.

And the difference with Maya is that, the other dogs often have a few skirmishes which rarely even result in broken skin, just natural stuff to assume/re-affirm dominance I guess, but when Maya loses it she really goes for it. It's like a red mist comes down on her, she loses all control, and it's becoming a problem. Tonight the flashpoint was me arriving home with the daughter from the school pick-up, and in the rush to greet us Maya went for Anna. I've learnt not to assess wounds too quickly... you need to let the dogs calm down a bit first, so after spending a couple of hours cleaning the pool (yes, I've turned into Stumpy - a taller version!) I checked Anna over and yes, she needed the vet.

It wasn't an emergency or I would have been tempted to jump the level crossing in true Thai style. I reckon 11-ish riders, 3 helmets... a ratio about par for the course, and it will never change. There could well also be several kids hidden from view.

Familiar territory... whereas I am often very critical of Thais I think this is maybe because many I meet are of the alcoholic, half-witted, feckless and sponging types that the wife seems to latch on to. I have met many, very nice and caring Thais at the vets and sometimes think that in a future life, the way to meet a compatible partner would be to hang around vet waiting rooms with Anna.

I could even bring along and show off my Splendid Cock!

Sadly, Anna needs a couple of stitches in one wound but it was too deep to sew up with local anaesthetic injections so we have to go back in the morning and she will get some gas. The wound on the back of her neck is small, but deep.

    Photos only if requested.

I can't say how pissed off I am with Maya at the moment.

I was thinking of leaving Anna there for the night, but the vet charges 2000 Baht a night for board and lodging... in a cage! And that's without breakfast... she's allowed no food for 8 hours before the gas. Last weekend I stayed on Sukhumvit with the daughter in a small suite for 5400 Baht for two nights... it makes you think.

So I brought Anna home to lick her wounds and sleep in her own bed for the night, before we leave again in the morning.

Well, that was the plan. Yogi really is despicable.

Maya is becoming a problem and I don't really know what to do. She is the 'highest bred' of our motley assortment of street dogs and is really lovely with humans, I would completely trust her with kids etc, but she has a real issue with other female canines (another 7 letter Scrabble word, KW!).

The lovely daughter imparted her opinion on the problem tonight... she reckons that the dogs are picking up on my tension and it's upsetting them... putting the pack on edge. And she's right of course, three weeks in Korat is enough to stress anyone, let alone three weeks in Korat with the wife. Maya is the wife's contribution to the pack, having arrived home in the early hours one weekend the worse for wear, but with this beautiful little puppy picked up as some sort of play thing stuck in her handbag. I kept Maya of course, knowing her dismal alternatives, and yet, in true Thai style, the wife has contributed absolutely nothing to the training of her dog (or anything else for that matter) - anything that doesn't involve lying horizontal in front of the telly for 10 hours a day stuffing your face with rice and shit appears to fall under my remit.

Anyway, as much as I have some affection for her, maybe from just the length of time spent together, with these issues maybe I should look at somehow re-homing? Is that possible in Thailand?

And she could bloody-well take Maya with her as well.

If Maya is the problem and the safety of the other dogs is the issue, then there really is only one solution that will work... and I know you wont go for that. So constant vet trips until serious damage is done to someone is your near to medium term future... sorry to say.

I think it's because of Yogi...who is not the alpha male of the pack but has free reign over these bitches who have no one to put them in their place, of which also can sense the ample pheromones of a stray pack leader who is once again strutting around with a bigger nutsack than the afore mentioned beta... although I:m no Cesar Milan

Pp. For a good reduction on future vet bills...Someone on a barstool once told me if you see 2 dogs fighting and you want them to stop, introduce a full index finger to the anus of the aggressor.
