^ I'd wager that he's a little happier than I am right now!

And you're happier than you'll be when the missus gets back from the funeral/s to find her prayer room has disappeared.

The protestation 'But you never used it!' will certainly not improve things.

    It's all relative.

He's messing with one of the 3 sacrosanct pillars of Thainess: food, lakorn and Buddha. Its not going to end well. Particularly when she gets her secondhand bunny suit.

Yeah well, everything has taken a major set back today. I spent the entire day driving around Korat visiting tile shops... and I can't even find tiles the same size as the existing ones (30cm x 20cm), let alone the same colour. I've lost count of the number of 'mai mees' I've had today.

I've already accepted that the new tiling will be all white, but was hoping that at least the tile size would match. I don't really want to knock the Buddha room wall down until I have 'Oiy' on hire and can then synchronise things.

Why is everything always so bloody difficult to sort out in Thailand?

The wife's apparently due back on Sunday and I reckon that the wall will still be intact, which to be honest is probably for the best. I may even attempt an adult to adult conversation about it... well, an adult to screaming Isaan banshee conversation, anyway. And I'm due back to work a week or so after she arrives back... so this could all turn in to long term, half finished projects to add to the list.

After spending all day driving around Korat I needed a refreshing dip this afternoon... but no chance, the pool water is now 36 degrees. I've never known it that warm before.

The pool is still a focal point, however...

Pepsi has finally braved the stairs and found the aircon.

    ^ Lucky Pepsi!

Out of our seven dogs, all have no trouble going up stairs but one just cannot handle going down, and he gets stuck and has to be helped down every time. I don't think I have the most intelligent dogs in the world.

But as for aircon, they all love that!

Got to a pool for the first time in months today and was hugely disappointed in the tepid soup I entered instead of the cool, relaxing stream in my head.

^ A cool, relaxing stream would be good.

Which reminds me, I still haven't had that prostate check-up.

Some improvisation will have to happen. First, there is one more place to check out by the daughter's school which I'll visit after pick-up today.

Floor tiles tend to have a kind of ripple-shading that won't match at all. I did find big white wall tiles at Do Home which will probably have to do. I forgot to measure them, but if they're 60 x 40 then they could always be cut in half... at the huge wastage that will doubtless entail.

    Don't start cutting tiles up
It will all end in tears. Unless you've got the skills, the tools and the enthusiasm just hire someone . It's a prick of a job

That's pretty much my advice to my wife.

She got a couple in yesterday to re-tile her bathroom.

Handymen for hire just hire someone else, and it's often a mum & dad from the hills working together.

These two seem to have done a decent job.

    Touch...err...ceramic?

If you found 30x30 then two side by side would be 30x60, same as three 30x20s. Might work.

^ I was starting to head that way, but struck gold today. I've continued my tile issues to my other thread, to leave this one for Anna et al.

^^ That's the way I'm going Cyrille, no way will I be doing this tiling myself. I'm back to work in 10 days-ish anyway, depending on stopovers.

Sadly my hopes of getting the job done over Songkran are disappearing fast. After his initial interest, 'Oiy' has gone silent. I've got the materials now... all I need is a price so I can accept or look elsewhere. As is usual in Isaan, I am finding it incredibly difficult to find anyone to do a job, or even just to find someone who will communicate.

But anyway, in the meantime I am not the only one enjoying the relaxed regime while the Kommandant is away.

Every night, Anna comes in and lies in the back door way. She gets the occasional tidbit of course, but I think she just likes the feeling of being part of a family.

Also, I think that she secretly enjoys the disruption she causes to Lola and Maya's evening routines of sneaking in to sit under the fans. Neither will dare to walk past her while she blocks the doorway.

    A formidable barrier.

Half an hour later, Lola and Maya has found another way into the house, but now wanted to exit.

I'm sure that Anna does this deliberately.

Why not dip into your fanny pack, bro, whilst yelling at these mother fuckers in your finest Bristolian Mercan lingo that you will tip the guy who finishes you off in the restroom, man

^ Only 40 Baht in Korat mate, and he doesn't even pretend to be medical.

But God it's hot here today. Fans going 24/7 for the dogs and I don't remember having to do that before.
