    Puppies!

    Hi,

Not sure if this is the done thing here, but I've gotta try. Apologies if I shouldn't be doing it.

I am trying to find homes for a litter of eight puppies, please take a look at my gallery if at all interested. I've tried and failed yet again to get a picture to attach to a post, even following Neverna's kind instructions.

Once I've homed the puppies I will get the mother speyed, and that's another problem solved around our way. I've homed around forty puppies in the past 18 months from five litters and have got all but one mum speyed (couldn't catch her). We are full and I've exhausted my local contacts.

These are living by a house near us and are very tame. I've been keeping them fed until ready to go to homes. Its in the Korat area, and I'm happy to deliver within reason.

So, if anyone would like a puppy, or knows someone who may be interested, please get in touch!

    Thank you very much SKkin.

I forgot to mention, if you take all eight; I'll throw in the wife as well!

Thanks, but no can do. I'm well stocked in the wife and dog department...and I'm not in the kingdom.

But if I was I wouldn't mind having that cute lil bugger in the last photo.

I live in a townhouse...I do wish I could have a dog, but I figure it would be unfair to them.

    Hi Jabir,

The problem I have is this... when I find a home for a puppy I bring them in and clean them up, then deliver or wait for the new owners to collect. We have been caught out a couple of times recently by someone wanting a pup and then stopping answering the phone or messages. I've then ended up keeping these puppies as it just doesn't seem fair to bring them home, clean them up, give them some hope and then dump them back homeless again. We now have four and that's enough and I don't want to get landed with more (and I don't think the wife would tolerate it!). With all due respect at the moment you to me are a name on an anonymous forum and I can't hold a puppy, but I do also want to home these puppies.

I've uploaded a picture of each into my puppy album just in case you or anyone else is genuinely interested. Amazingly there's 7 boys and 1 girl (from an original litter of 10). The girls are hardest to home as no-one wants puppies or wants to pay for neutering. Why do half starved street dogs have such large litters? Its an awful lot of dogs to find homes for.

These are a motley looking bunch but very calm and tame. I think they will make nice pets. Your 'cute' one is photo 'Boy7'. My young daughter helped me with the pictures after school today, but wasn't best pleased about it as can be seen by her expression in the photos!

All of these puppies are cute, but after six months the girls come into season, six weeks later have litters of 8 to 10, half of which are usually girls, all of which come into season six months later... and so forth, etc etc. The problem escalates so quickly and before you know it there's half starved and dead puppies everywhere. Very upsetting. I try and do what I can. Its not the dog's fault they were born.

Maybe a bit unfair and overstated by me, no way would I commit to a dog on the basis of a pic, I'd be surprised if anyone did, and certainly wouldn't expect you to hold a pup for anyone on the strength of a loose comment.

Thanks anyway, and hope they all end up in good homes.

I appreciate it was a loose comment and apologies for an over- wordy response.

You may be surprised at the number of people in the past who have been 110% for a puppy based on pictures and then just cut contact for no obvious reason. I don't know why they can't just call to say that they've changed their mind as puppies have lost other potential homes because of this.

So I have to find homes on a first come first served basis, but its not exactly as though people are queuing up...

An update on the puppy situation...

I'm having no luck at all with this litter... we're full, all my contacts are full and time is running out as I need to get them homed before they turn feral and I'm off back to work next week.

An animal charity in Korat, K9 Rescue, has kindly agreed to take all the pups and find them homes in return for a donation. I feel like I'm just transferring the problem but this will at least give them a chance and seems like a good solution. They have no chance staying where they are. The households these dogs live near are happy to have a few roaming around but they don't want another eight, and I can't blame them.

So a rescue guy comes this morning to dart the mother dog to sedate her so we can catch her to get her speyed, and to pick up the pups. I have a precision operation all planned out as she is a wise dog and has evaded capture before (hence the latest puppies). The dogs live near some houses with wasteland on one side (no problem) and thick undergrowth on the other (big problem). My plan is to have my gardener standing guard in front of the area of undergrowth, dart the dog, stick her in a crate, job done. What can go wrong...

So, the rescue guy hides in the back of my car with the tinted windows down a few inches, I drive up to the dogs and they all follow, knowing my car and expecting some food. The rescue guy sticks his blowpipe out of the rear window and darts the mum dog! My gardener is elsewhere talking to some builders, the mum dogs takes off like a bat out of hell into the thick undergrowth. We spend 45 minutes in 38 degrees heat trying to find her, getting scratched to buggery by brambles, bitten by red ants, etc etc. Eventually give up and return to the car, and the mum dog is back where we started sitting with her pups. It seems she only received a glancing blow by the dart. She sees us return and takes off again, and after another 45 minutes of trying to corner her for darting we eventually give up. I am absolutely knackered.

Will try again tomorrow morning. Tomorrow's tactic is to try and feed her first with some sedative laden food to slow her down a bit before darting her. I can but hope, but something always seems to go wrong...

The next attempt last week was a disaster. The mum saw the rescue guy's car and just took off. They learn fast.

We agreed one final attempt today. This operation was planned with military precision. The mum and her pups sleep in a part built house at night and we agreed with the builders to block them in once they had settled for the night. The rescue guy was happy to turn up early today.

At 8 o'clock this morning we arrived on location. Nearby there was a house ceremony going on, an auspicious day of some sorts... maybe a good omen?

We checked under the building site gate and mum had been blocked in. This was looking hopeful.

The gate was raised a fraction and the rescue guy sneaked in with his blow pipe and dart.

While he was doing his stuff I rounded up a couple of escapees. The one on the right has a confirmed home to go to. The one on the left not yet.

The boy on the left was my personal favourite from this litter. I hope he gets a home. I broached taking him in to the wife but we have four already and she made it very clear it was the puppy or her.

With hindsight I wish I hadn't asked for some time to think about it. That's gonna cost me...

    Anyway, the wife's staying.

Eventually the rescue guy gave us the all clear. The mum was darted and knocked out so we raised the gate and went in.

She looks so peaceful here. You wouldn't believe the trouble we've had catching this dog.

And the complete catch in the rescue car. The mum will be neutered later today and return home at the end of the week. The puppies are going to the K9 Rescue charity in Korat. Two have definite homes, six will hopefully be homed eventually. There's 7 boys and 1 girl, so that should help tremendously.No-one wants the girls.

This is the first litter round here we haven't found homes for but everyone we know is just full up.

By the way, a few guys on here mentioned their favourite before. He is still just as beautiful as before. You can just see his nose sticking out past the left side of the black and white pup in the back of the car. He is still looking for a home!

    Good work mate.

I do wonder though that if all the soi dogs were rounded up here, that there would be loads of snakes and rats and probably a plague epidemic

Before accepting defeat in the face of unfair competition from 'The Puppies Thread' I thought it fitting to add a conclusion to this latest litter we've got off the street.

The mother has been vaccinated, neutered and returned 'home' - the houses she lives outside are happy to have a few dogs hanging around and we help with the food. The puppies have all been vaccinated and cleaned up and are awaiting homes in the K9 Rescue centre in Korat. Two have been homed and are being picked up this weekend. I am hopeful they will find homes, as having been raised amongst people they are very friendly. They look great after a shower.

Here is a pic at the vets after the 8 pups and mum had been cleaned up and briefly reunited.

Quite a difference from when the original litter of 10 were born under an excavator ten weeks ago...
