Nick one of their scooters, grab a GPS, and go ancient temple hunting. Lots of lovely ruins hidden away round there. Just not Phra Wihan. You'll get shot.

    Have fun.

    Head south. There's a border-crossing into Cambodjia.

I read that there's an aquarium in Sisaket. I guess if you make the trip with your gf to visit her family you may get to see the inside of a Tesco, Makro or Big C. Make sure everybody tells you that you're a good man.

Before you go make sure to ask your gf, "Where will we be sleeping ?"

Their bedroom might also double as a barn or chicken coup.

Sisiket city or a village in the province?
Interesting province. Mix of 3 or 4 cultures and languages. Spent a fair amount of time in Khun Han. The folks I knew spoke Souei. A completely unintelligible language.
Not as much as Surin but do watch out for black magic love spells or you may find yourself at a wedding ceremony with you being the groom.

Because most of us don't want to stay in an un-airconditioned sweatbox surrounded by chickens and 400 family members making all kinds of noise and barging around without any privacy and trying to use a squat toilet whilst sweating your ass off and being generally uncomfortable.

Proper hotel room is a much better choice.

    Unless you're jeff

    1) because he's never visited his gf's family
    2) a bf sleeping with his gf at the village house sometimes changes the nuances and cultural mores of the situational relationship. Would it be considered proper in all things 'Thainess' , Nicethaiza ?

Not neccesarily , not every family, not every girl who brings a farang man to meet her family.

Is the OP providing money to his gf...has she been married before...is she employed...does she have children...does the OP's funds funnel it's way back to supporting the gf's family ...etc

Too many variables to be considered, eh.

I don't know the dynamics of the OP's particular domestic situation and figured it was a prudent question for the OP to consider asking in advance.

A "chicken coup" is when the birds rise up and get rid of Colonel Saunders. A chicken coop is where chickens live until they become nuggets.

Its confirmed that ThaiZa lives like that lol.

In 9 years I have never had 1 night that I can remember in a place that didn't have air-conditioning and an actual shower (not a bucket) and a sit-down toilet

Yes traveled up north, and no not once have I rented a fan room.

Only thing I can think of:

I went to a cousins wedding in like 2005 in Nong Kai. Straight-up village life. Me and some other work bros from Iraq went together (non-military).

Scaffold stage thingy with dancing girls & all that stuff.

Got stupid drunk cause everyone was feeding us alcohol like they do, not letting a glass go empty.

Last thing I remember it was still daylight and I was trying to dance lol

Woke up the next morning in a "room" no idea if it was fan or aircon but it damn sure didn't have anything in the bathroom other than a bucket & ladel thing.

    Coldest hangover shower ever.

    The end.

OP should get a room near the cuckoos nest bar, good food and Brian [a yank] really nice guy can tell you what's to see.

Family in the village is the first thing you will want to get away from, eating crap, drinking and talking in semi thai, not understandable to Thais.

Show the flag, pay for the food and booze and get a hotel, I live in a rural village and most westerners can't handle it for more than a few days.
