    Khon Kaen Delights

Well what to say about Khon Kaen, I find it a great place after being so many years in Phuket, now in KK about 5 years and no regrets..

I (wife) was lucky to secure land next to a small lake and far enough away from the in-laws (outlaws) and now proud owner of a beautiful 3 bedroom bungalow (will post photos when I return from work).

    Plenty of Felang bars here

    Juniors Bar Scottish/English
    Leo's Bar English
    Eric's Bar English
    R&P's American
    Cheap Charlie's English
    Seven's Corner English/Thai
    Number 1 Bar NZ/Scottish
    Pizza Uno Finnish
    Didine's Swiss/French
Italian pizza place next to Cheap Charlie's
Lots of Karaoke bars if that way inclined.
    Some secret places.

    All centrally located

Two golf courses in KK, Railway (9 hole) Army Base (11 extending to 18)
another great course 50km away at Ubol Rat dam 18 holes with showering facilities and all.

Horse racing every Sunday and yes you can get a bet.

Plenty of spots for fishing and big one's at that

Tesco's, Macro, Big C, two big shopping malls, Global House, Index and all the yucky felang fast food joints are here.

Lovely resort next to the airport owned by a good Thai friend of mine.

Castle Howchoi resort close by in Kranuan.

Udon Thani/Nong Kai/Korat all within easy reach by car/train/bus

    Good hospitals.

Most of the felang bars have felang food available.

Bung Kaen Nakhon lake featuring 9 story Wat and very pleasant for a walk around.

    Hope this helps someone.

I live in Phuket and if ever we moved to a town close to where the missus is from, it would be KK. I have been there a couple of times, but, it doesn't touch Phuket, not even close.
Why did you leave Phuket? Did your missus insist? Property prices too high in Phuket?

^ I have to say, the Isaan natives are much more pleasant than the Phuket natives.

oops sorry for my spelling...didn't know you were touchy about it

DD plenty of Aussie boys up here, last trip home had my mate from Sydney who had previously lived in KK visiting for a week, still recovering from it.

Sir Burr, it was a few things that made my mind up to come to KK, one obviously being land prices and over about three trips split my time between KK and Phuket and KK just seemed to grow on me, plus with having two stepdaughters thought it was better to be a family unit there.

Regarding land prices, was told last time home that 5 rai was available for 3 million baht....mmm thought yeah go for it.
I stayed in the background but the greedy twat that was selling it knew the wife was married to a FARANG and doubled the price right away...no sale for him, wife was livid to say the least.

How would you compare KK to Udon Thani, for cost of living, long term rental, and anything else you can think of ?

I don't know whittler as only really stayed in Udon for a week, but sure there is an Udon forum, can't remember link, but I would think it would be very comparable.
One thing is for sure the price difference between Phuket & KK, have been back down to Phuket a few times visiting old friends and prices are definetly way different from KK

Not that I have the inclination, although I don't say no to a bit of a dick rub with my beer, but I noticed that compared with Udon there is a sad lack of available Totty present in the western bars, maybe its because I went out with Rigger and he scared them all away.
We ended up in some strange French guys place, for a Farang run place, it seemed to be orientated towards Thai customers.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Kaen Inn is cheap and what I would call half decent but I would recommend the Charoen Thani.
