    Udon Thani and Ban Dung

I need to visit Ban Dung next month to pay respects to my best friend who sadly died in a motorcycle crash the other week. I'm stuck in Korea so can't make the service so a little advice before hand would be much appreciated.

We (My Wife and I, maybe our son) will fly into Udon Thani.

What is the best way to get to Ban Dung and how long would it take.

Are there any hotels in Ban Dung? Trip Advisor says there aren't. Any suggestions or recommendations?

We will be there around 3 nights. Anything interesting to do up there?

Maybe recommendations for Udon Thani too, maybe we could have a night or 2 there also.

We will meet my late friend's widow, but her english isn't great to the type so just trying to do a bit of homework to gauge the length of our stay.

    Thanks.
    Lang may yer lum reek...

Try this place. If there are foreigners at Ban Dung, there must be decent hotels. Udon has several and it just depends on your budget and taste. Transportation at Udon airport should be straight forward. If it were me, I would hire a van. If you are on a tight budget, go to the Udon bus station and see about a VIP bus. The Central Plaza is about 100 meters from the bus station and may be worth a look. PM me and maybe we can meet up, or I can give you a ride to a decent hotel in Udon.

A few more western establishments in Ban Dung.

No worries, I think I'll stay in Udon and make a day trip to Ban Dung. 2 nights and out of there. Play it by ear.

The Pannarai Hotel seems to be the best in town? And only 1,200 baht per night.

I stayed for 1 night at the City Inn hotel. I forgot how much, but maybe 600-700 B. Booked thru Agoda. Manager spoke English & has travelled to several neighboring countries. The desk clerk didn't speak much English, but I didn't have much problems since i was prebooked & prepaid. It's walking distance (5 min) from the bus station, I came from Laos. It's also ~5 min walk away from the Central Plaza mall.

Basic hotel, w/ aircon. No frills, but ok, with free wifi. I just needed a place to sleep. No breakfast included, but there are eateries (umbrella type) and some farang resto-bars in the vicinity. Was near to Central.Plaza mall & a bit farther away was UD Town mall and a night market, and the railway stn.
